“It’s a dark game. I characterize it as a lot of darkness.” – Gunther Cunningham (Raiders defensive coordinator and Chiefs head coach/defensive coordinator)

“In Oakland…the games you always really wanted to come see were the Niners and the Chiefs. You grew up hating red…It goes deep. It’s not just the teams. It’s the organizations, you know, which organization is better? These are two teams that played in the old AFL against each other. Most of the history goes back to it. They’ve been AFC West rivals for a very, very long time. It’s always been the must-win game.” — Kirk Morrison (former Raiders linebacker)

“Only one word: Blood.” — Harvey Williams (RB, played for the Raiders and Chiefs)

“I never liked the Raiders.” – Todd Haley (current Chiefs head coach)

“We knew we had to go through Oakland to win the championship, and they knew they had to go through Kansas City. That made it a very bitter rivalry.” – Hank Stram (Hall of Fame coach of the Chiefs)

“The one constant you can count on in playing the Raiders is that they don’t finish. They don’t finish plays and they don’t finish games. I always told my players that if they kept playing hard against the Raiders, they would eventually fold. That is why I knew we would always win. That is still the perception around the league.” – Marty Schottenheimer (former Chiefs head coach)

“I’ll admit that early in the week, I wasn’t really caught up in the Chiefs-Raiders rivalry. But I’m caught up in it now. You betcha!” – Marty Schottenheimer

“Every time we play the Raiders, it’s a dogfight, no matter what the records are or where we play the game. It’s always a smash mouth game between us, back to when Buck Buchanan and Art Shell were playing. You’d better wear your mouthpiece in this game, I guarantee you that. It gets violent out there.” – former Chiefs defensive lineman Dan Saleaumua

“Marty does it the old fashioned way, he gets up and screams and cries. Marty could win an Oscar. He used to talk about how he has no respect for the Raiders.” – Harvey Williams

“[Al Davis] told me he was going to get me. I think he’s tried to ruin the latter part of my career, tried to devalue me. I think he’s trying to stop me from going to the Hall of Fame.” – Former Raiders and Chiefs running back Marcus Allen

“What went through my mind was, maybe I can break Lenny Dawson’s ribs and he won’t be able to play next week. Maybe they’ll lose and we’ll be back in first place.” – Raiders DE Ben Davidson

“Those were my favorite games. I always likened them to a heavyweight fight. You knew you were going to get beat up, but it was fun. We needed the Chiefs. We wouldn`t have been as good without them.” – Ben Davidson

Bugeater 11-06-2010 11:07 PM

Oh thank god, I was worried one of the Raider trolls might start the gamethread.

Let's do this! 15 hours until we shut these ridiculous Raider trolls up and shove it down their throats.

I have not been this excited for a Raiders game in years.

**** the Raiders.

Go Chiefs.

Chiefs=Champions 11-06-2010 11:50 PM

We should win this game. If we are a legit team, there is no way we should lose this game.. Its that simple.

Having said that im rather nervous. All the ****ing trolls on this board the past week, have mad me want to win all the more.

GO CHIEFS!!!

BossChief 11-06-2010 11:55 PM

My predictions for the game today:

Berry gets his third pick (DJ gets one, as well as Flowers)
Jason Campbell gets pulled at halftime for Bruce
We go over 200 yards each passing and rushing
McFadden fumbles at least once, in a crucial point of the game
We hold their offense to under 300 yards total
Kick/punt return for TD for Arenas

GO CHIEFS!!!

Mr. Flopnuts 11-06-2010 11:55 PM

I heard on Twitter that the key maker has been sighted at Oakland Alameda stadium.

After watching some video of Gradkowski, I think his ability to improvise will be sorely missed in this game for Oakland.

That's the one thing we seemed to struggle with last week against the Bills.

Last thing I want is some QB running around making plays.

honestly, I see a game where we get a two score lead going into halftime and Bruce leads them to tie the game up in the mid fourth quarter and we get another classic Raider/Chiefs finish within the last two minutes.

I hate to say it, but I think Bruce is a good quarterback and that he will get his chance during the game today to show that.

Just like last year when Jason Campbell played for the Redskins and got pulled for Todd Collins (iirc) at halftime, I see a similar first half for him in which we start pulling away.

Of course, this can all be nullified if Hali and company can get to the quarterback consistently.

We REALLY need our pass rush to step it up today and keep Oakland form being able to field a balanced attack.

Hammock Parties 11-07-2010 12:12 AM

Oakland has a rookie left tackle.

Yeah, I think our DL is the key to the game. If we can get some push, we win going away.

If we let Gradkowski run around and make plays, we could be in some serious trouble. I just hope that Al Davis is still coherent enough that we make him shit his depends. :grr:

BossChief 11-07-2010 12:15 AM

I know they do, hopefully Hali has his game face on today and RAPES that n00b

Send the Convicts back down to under .500 and grab the AFC West by the balls.

Shaun Smith approves.

Weather update: Rain.....almost an inch.
This will be a MAJOR factor on game plans as the Coliseum is 22' below sea level, and the sod must still be somewhat fresh on what was the Oakland A`s infield. This game will come down to turnovers and favor the RB`s that run north/south as opposed to "cutbacks".......

We have both types.

Hum.

All the rain favors the Chiefs.

Why?

They have the better run defense.

S&BJW 11-07-2010 12:30 AM

Well, McFadden is capable but Bush might be the monster tomorrow as well as our compliment of fullbacks. This game will be won/lost in the trenches for sure.....and the turnover battle. I don`t expect to see many passes from either team but who knows?

Last time KC met us here in the rain they got rolled 24-0

Last 1st game of the year matchup McFadden rolled over KC for 164 yards

Last two games Oakland rolled over opponents 92-17

Contrary to recent Planet homer predictions, this ain't no cakewalk for KC

No, the fact we have a better run defense has meaning.

It means we stand a better chance of winning.

I was going with a buddy (Raiders Fan) but he sold his tickets because he didn't want to sit be in the rain when the blackout was lifted. I'll entertain myself with the Chargers/Texans.

SenselessChiefsFan 11-07-2010 06:58 AM

Raining all day:

Both teams run the ball, so both teams benefit.

However, KC's pass defense is their biggest weakness, and Oakland's run defense is their biggest weakness. So, those two things favor KC.

The home crowd will have to deal with Rain for nearly the whole game. If the Chiefs get any kind of lead, that will dampen the hopes considerably, and they may start heading for the gates early..... or at least hanging around under the overhangs quietly.

Bush is more of a plodder than Jones is, so that favors the Raiders. Charles won't touch the ball as much due to his fumbling tendancies.... that will help the Raiders.

Chiefs typically, on the whole, take care of the ball better. Ball security will be huge in this game.

With the Raiders missing their star cornerback, it is a shame the Chiefs play them in weather that they don't get to exploit it.

All in all, I see the rain as a bigger factor for the Chiefs, but it is close. And, the biggest thing is ball security, because this will likely be a low scoring slug-fest.

Quote:

On Sunday, Nov 7th, 2010, The Kansas City Chiefs ran all over the Oakland Raiders for a 42-14 win. Jamaal Charles ran for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns and left a very strong taste of his balls in the Faiders defenses mouths. Much like he did against the Denver Broncos last season.

The mascara...errrrrr, black face paint is going to run today.

I saw that last night. They know a lot of us Springfieldians travel up for the game so they show the Insider on Saturday night. It was a good one since it touched on this rivalry.

So the rain isn't supposed to come until the 2nd and 3rd hours of the game. A good start is essential.
