Chiefs go 2-2 the rest of the way and not make the playoffs?

There are a lot of scenarios that can play out here. Can we win the rest of our Home games and split our 2 away games? Potentially san diego could beat us then we could go to St. Louis and lay an egg and lose forcing us to win out to have a chance to go 10-6 and maybe have a chance to make the playoffs but perhaps would not get in due to tie-breakers. A lot of potential for heartache for Chiefs fans.

After a ugly win yesterday it will be interesting how we show up in San Diego given we have an opportunity to put a dagger in them and finish them off once and for all.

The season is far from over. Despite winning 8 games at this point of the season and doing better than most expected on this board will losing our next 4 games be more devastating than anything we experienced the last 2 seasons where we never were in the the playoff conversation? Can fans be satisfied with a 8-8 record and still feel this was a successful year?

To me we have to go at least 2-2 from here on out for this to be a successful season. I wouldn't have said this at the beginning of the season, but reaching this milestone and then going 1-3 or 0-4 the rest of the way would be just awful to this Chiefs fan.

riveting take

If we go 2-2 over the next four games, and miss the POs, I will be very disappointed, but still view this season a resounding success.

ChiTown 12-06-2010 02:56 PM

We'll finish 11-5 and AFC West Champs:thumb:

Earthling 12-06-2010 02:59 PM

Chiefs controll their own destiny and have the luxury of being able to lose at SD and still make it to the playoffs. If we don't get in at this point we don't deserve to.

Deberg_1990 12-06-2010 03:04 PM

If we win next week, we might just sweep the rest of the games and end up 12-4.

RealSNR 12-06-2010 03:05 PM

Yes, my expectations were much lower entering the seasons.

But much like the Indy and Houston games, the Chiefs are in contention to the very end. They've done some impressive things, and have a great chance at playing more football games in January. Previous expectations, therefore, go out the window at this point.

I would view a 2-2 finish plus missing the playoffs as a failure. It was a failure when we had the Colts on the ropes and our offense pooped their shorts, and it was a failure when our defense stifled the Texans all game until 28 points in the 4th quarter.

This season, therefore, which saw improvements to the team that none of us saw coming... would be viewed as a failure.

RustShack 12-06-2010 03:05 PM

You're an idiot.

So going 10-6 is a failure? After a 2-14 and 4-12 the last 2 seasons I can't agree with you. Definitely going 1-3 or 0-4 the rest of the way would be a failure.

Chiefnj2 12-06-2010 03:17 PM

I hope they make the playoffs, but this might be one of those be careful what you wish for moments because I think KC will get beaten pretty soundly if NE, Pitt or Balt comes to KC in the postseason.

A two-game lead with 4 games left against .500 or worse teams the rest of the way. And we manage to lose the division?

Failure.

It would still be great experience for a young core of players. They’d get a taste of the “playoff speed” that the talking heads are always harping about.

And once you are in the dance, who knows. The Jets had a pretty young team that squeaked in last year – they made some damage and came into this season as a powerhouse.

I like our chances against either Shitsburgh or Baltimore at Arrowhead.

I'd rather Baltimore. Fatassrapeher is hard to bring down, and our "close but no cigar" pass rush would probably bounce off him like flies on a lamp shade in a dim room.

I know what you mean on paper that might be true but given any Sunday no game is a gimme no matter who you play. It's tough to win away and it gets tougher as the season progresses. 10-6 is not failure in my book, but you have your opinion and you are entitled to it.

You are the most miserable **** I have ever come across. And on this board, that's saying something.

Agree with the latter 2, but they can put up a lot of points on New England. Of course, the Pats can come back and score plenty themselves, but that wouldn't be some sort of ass-raping. Not by a longshot, IMO. Especially being at Arrowhead, which you'd think would be at its loudest in 6-7 years.

The Jets would be an interesting low scoring game. I'd assume Ryan would put Revis on Bowe and the game would be a lot like yesterdays.

teedubya 12-06-2010 03:53 PM

I feel the Chiefs are gonna win a playoff game this year. This would be HUGE. So, that is MY intention...

I don't think there is any limit to the surprises that Haley and crew are going to bestow on us.

It is just a matter of time, if it happens this year, that would be great.

It is just so ****ing nice, to have a coaching staff in place, that isn't in over their head.

mnchiefsguy 12-06-2010 04:22 PM

Only way that the Chiefs miss the playoffs by going 2-2 would be if Oakland ran the table and finished 10-6 also. I just don't see that happening...it is among the least likely scenarios possible...so quit being a freaking debbie downer and enjoy the season.

DaWolf 12-06-2010 04:36 PM

That Texans game could come back to haunt us...

That's interesting. I didn't realize that 2-2 could be a lock for the Chiefs given that Oakland loses one game from here on out.

We go 2-2 and San Diego runs the table does the same thing if Oakland loses a game.

I think the same thing about the Oakland game. I can't believe they are undefeated in division. Hopefully that will change on Jan. 2

Screw this thread.

The mindset is hilarious.

Oh noeszzzzzzzz!!! Don't make the playoffs because we might get beat.

New England is getting a bye. I don't give a shit if Pittsburgh or Baltimore comes to KC in the post-season.

Making the playoffs >>>>>> x infinity over not making them.

Haunt us for the bye, but haunt us to make the playoffs? Doubtful.

The Chargers losing to the Raiders is going to haunt them all year.

Then We Won't win the AFCW.

I don't think we lose 4 straight but in this league you never know. One or 2 key injuries and this team will fall from grace rather quickly.

I don't think this division will be settled until Jan 2nd. It is going to be an interesting last quarter of the season. Buckle up and hang on its gonna be a wild ride I think. Its been a long time since we could say that with hope for our team.

We watch the playoffs at home ( no KC team in it ) like the past few years.

cjp27 12-07-2010 12:42 AM

If we don't make the playoffs it' a choke job. I don't care what the expectations were at the beginning. (mine was about 8-8) Mellinger hit the nail on the head. I think we go 3-1 the rest of the way in.

I agree, so many young'ens are getting all excited about the playoffs and I have been watching, reading them and knowing that reality in this game is a slap in the face when you have high expectations.

One game at a time is the best approach. We got an early Christmas gift from the Raiders yesterday but it's far from being over. The way Oakland manhandled SD, a few good breaks in the next 3 games could be a serious match in KC.

HIChief 12-07-2010 12:51 AM

I know Haley wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a winning fourth quarter of the season. So, neither would I. That being said, this year's progress portends only better things to come. I'd certainly be optomistic about the Chiefs' future.
