RUMOR: Urban Meyer Stepping to step down
Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio http://sportingnewsradio.com is reporting:
# I've been told by multiple people to watch for Urban Meyer to step down (again) as Florida Gators head football coach later today # IF Urban Meyer is actually stepping down THIS time, the bigger question is WHY & IF he resurfaces somewhere else (Ann Arbor, Denver, etc?) 15 minutes ago via web http://twitter.com/Todd_Wright If this turns out to be true welcome to the Tebow saga for a couple of weeks ..... |
Oh please go to Denver.
|
Unconfirmed, but we'll see at 5pm.
|
Man, I hope we don't have to follow this crap every year.
|
NFL head coaching is not heart-friendly.
|
What I'm hearing is his health is worse that what's been reported and that the medications he's been on have been messing things up for him.
|
"Timmy, I've missed you soooo ..."
|
Should have paid Cam a retention fee.
|
Didn't we just go through this last year?
|
The new "Brett Favre" of coaching?
He has a shitty year (by Florida standards) and can't take the heat? Hmmm..... |
ROFL
RIP Gator Nation |
TEBOW AND MEYER IN DENVER! LMAO
|
he's suffering from 'loseitis'
|
No way he leaves Florida for Michigan.
|
OMG this would be awesome to see Meyer in Denver with Tebow. I would F'n love it...Do it Bowlen. **** up that franchise even more!

He's the Brett Favre of coaches. He'll be back in less than a week. (hopefully with Lord Tebow in Denver)

Charlie Strong - Head coach at Louisville and took 2 assistants with him Dan Mullen - Head coach at Mississippi State Dan McCarney - Head coach at North Texas Greg Mattison - DC for Ravens Billy Gonzalez - left for LSU after Addazio got the OC job among others. Addazio HAD to go and now we should get a fresh staff. The only problem is I don't even know who I'd want as HC. |

Would Gruden want to go to the college ranks now that there is an opening in Florida?
|
Herman Edwards is available. He needs a new job cause he sucks on ESPN.
|
Florida could go after Iowa State's coach, seemed to work for Auburn?

What a joke. The fact the team tanked this year had nothing to do with this? He is a quitter. |
Rich Rod will be available shortly.
|
I think Urban just wants a better challenge and will come to Vandy.

No thanks to Petrino. Personally, I'd love Jim Harbaugh but he'd only leave for Michigan, IMO. |

Urban Meyer is stepping down in order to spend more time with Tim Tebow's family.

Urban Meyer Resigns As Florida Football Coach; Press Conference At 6 PM ET

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images) Urban Meyer has announced he is stepping down as Florida's head coach after the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day, saying "it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field." Original Story Urban Meyer Resigns As Florida Football Coach (Again) StoryStream™ updates have been posted since you started reading. Reload to view. Update: Is Urban Meyer's Health The Reason He's Resigning From Florida? The last time Urban Meyer announced his resignation as Florida Gators head coach, he listed his health and his family as his two primary concerns. After the 2009 SEC Championship Game, Meyer was admitted into a Gainesville hospital with chest pains and dehydration. The next day he stated his intention to step down, dialing down the decision on the following day to a leave of absence. He coached the team in the Sugar Bowl, did most of his recruiting work from home, and returned as full-time head coach in March 2010. This time around Meyer hasn’t mentioned his health, only his family. Should we be putting two and two together and presuming his health is also a factor? Central Florida’s Bright House Sports Network reports Meyer’s heart condition is getting worse, and that he told Gators players that he’s retiring from coaching. If the stress brought on by an SEC East title run contributed to his 2009 health scare, the pressures of righting the Florida ship as currently constructed could indeed be even worse. If the Gators lose their bowl game, they’ll finish with the program’s worst record since 1987. Dec 08 1:22p by Jason Kirk - 0 comments Update: Urban Meyer Resigns: Press Conference At 6 PM; Florida Coach Releases Statement It’s official: Urban Meyer has resigned as head coach of the Florida Gators. There will be a press conference at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to announce the news. Meyer and Athletic Director Jeremy Foley came to an agreement on the resignation Tuesday. On Wednesday, the university released a statement from Meyer, which reads in part: “I have been a Division I football coach for the last 25 years and, during that time, my primary focus has been helping my teams win titles. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and I am a fierce competitor to my core. At this time in my life, however, I appreciate the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field. The decision to step down was a difficult one. “But after spending more than two decades motivating and celebrating the young men I’ve been so proud to coach, I relish the opportunity to cheer for my three terrific kids as they compete in their own respective sports. I know how fortunate I am to be in a position to make this choice and to have a family that is as loving and supportive as my amazing wife and children have always been.” Meyer will remain the Gators’ head coach for the Outback Bowl, which Florida will participate in on New Year’s Day. After that, Meyer will walk away from the program to which he gave six seasons. During that tenure, Meyer won two National Championships and three SEC East titles. 11:32a by Chris Mottram - 0 comments Urban Meyer Resigns As Florida Football Coach (Again) According to FanHouse's Brett McMurphy, Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head coach to the University of Florida's football team. (Yes, again.) The official announcement is expected to come in a press conference at 5 p.m. EST Wednesday evening. If reports are true, this would not be the first time that Meyer has stepped down. Last December, Meyer announced he would resign as Florida's head coach following a health scare earlier in the month (Meyer went to the hospital with chest pains and was released later the same day on Dec. 6). At the time, he said, "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family." However, the next day, Meyer changed his attitude and his resignation became just a leave of absence. He coached the Gators in the Sugar Bowl on Jan . 1, a win over Cincinnati, and by March 17, he has completely resumed his duties as Florida's head coach. Meyer took over at Florida in 2005 after two years at Utah. He led the Gators to two national championships, in 2006 and then again in 2008. Sounds like Dan Mullen is the frontrunner as of now. We'll see how things change over the immediate future. I think Jeremy Foley will act quickly.
|
I think the Broncos are a real chance, but don't count out the Redskins...Dan fired Marty after one 8-8 season to hire Spurrier.

The University of Florida is in shock upon hearing the news that head coach Urban Meyer has decided to retire. Here is a detailed account of how it unfolded from a current player.

The names I'm hearing the most are Chris Petersen, Bobby Petrino, Bob Stoops, and Dan Mullen.
I'm really warming to the idea of Chris Petersen. He's turned down jobs before so I'm not sure he'd leave Boise State, but I think he'd be an outstanding hire. He's making $1.2mil a year now at Boise State so a more than double pay raise, the real possibility of a BCS Championship, Florida weather, and Florida recruiting *might* entice him to move. Bobby Petrino is a great coach and offensive mind, but he's so damn shady. While I think he'd be successful at Florida, he's a guy who I'd always worry about jumping ship. Not a big fan. Bob Stoops is not a real possibility, IMO. He was offered the job when Spurrier left, and declined. It is rumored he was approached again when Zook was fired, and declined. Oklahoma is a premier job and has given Stoops a raise each time Florida came calling. He's also lost some of his luster with all of his big game losses. He'd be a good hire, but wouldn't be very exciting. I don't there's any chance he leaves Norman. Dan Mullen = backup plan, IMO. He's relatively young, fiery, and offensive-minded. But he's also not that exciting and only has 2 years of HC experience. Memories of him are fonder since he left Florida and he's done relatively well at Miss St. but I think Florida can get a better coach. |
Right now all signs point to Bob Stoops.
