Chargers In For Cold, Snow In Cincinnati

http://c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000HtwFw.R5pYk/s

Win or lose, when the Kansas City Chiefs are finished with their game against the Tennessee Titans tomorrow, a few players may want to stay behind in the locker room to watch the afternoon game between the San Diego Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals.

By now you all know the situation. The Chiefs can clinch the AFC West title tomorrow if they win and the Chargers lose. If the Chiefs win and the Chargers win, then the Chiefs will have to beat the Oakland Raiders next week at Arrowhead. If the Chiefs lose and the Chargers win…well, we’re not going to talk about that.

I am not trying to look past the importance of the Chiefs winning tomorrow. I am by no way saying that the Titans will be easy to defeat but the fact that Kansas City has to take care of business tomorrow goes without saying.
What I am most interested in, is the game that will happen in Cincinnati. On paper the Chargers should destroy the Bengals. Cinci has won only 3 games all year and the Chargers are one of the most talented teams in the league and are fighting for a playoff spot.

Still, the Bengals are a dangerous team that is only one year removed from the playoffs itself. Cincinnati also swept the Ravens and the Steelers last year which anyone will tell you is no small task.
One thing working in KC’s favor tomorrow is that the Chargers have to leave the comfort and sunny weather of San Diego to travel to cold Cincinnati Ohio.
According to weather.com, Cincinnati will be enjoying some snow showers tomorrow and the temperature at kickoff will be about 30 degrees and it will feel like 19 degrees.

Will the cold weather and snow throw San Diego off their game? It is possible. The Bolts are only 2-4 on the road this season and are susceptible to mental lapses so anything that can throw the Chargers off their game and make them uncomfortable could really help the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs win tomorrow, will you be scoreboard watching?

Huffman83 12-25-2010 08:37 PM

I'd be scoreboard watching with or without a win from KC tomorrow. But I don't know...it's not like SD are a bunch of puffs just because they're from California. Their D is still good and they have a good running game. I bet that's all they'll need to beat the Bunglez.

Hammock Parties 12-25-2010 08:40 PM

Wow.

It would be pretty amazing if we clinched tomorrow.

It'd sure make the drive home far more enjoyable. Last drive home from Arrowheadwe we were pretty thrilled by Oakland's ownage in SD, so you never know.

mikey23545 12-25-2010 08:46 PM

I don't know what the stats are anymore, but years ago the Chargers had an abysmal record in games they played in when the temperature at kickoff was under 32 degrees...

I think you're thinking of the Bucs.

Well considering they were about 2352542-0 in December under Norv coming into this season, I'm gonna guess that's not the case anymore. Might as well start up the streak again though. What do ya think, Phillip?

http://cdn.faniq.com/images/blog/a18...49062912d7.jpg

I think that means yes. Bengals 24, Chargers 19. (I think that's the score they beat us by when we were 9-0)

Since 2006, the Chargers have played in four games 32 degrees or less and are 2-2. Both losses came in the playfoffs, to New England and Pittsburgh.

Huffman83 12-25-2010 08:57 PM

As much as I'd like to see the Chargers lose. I just don't see it happening.

I'm sure every other team in the playoffs would rather see KC than SD fwiw.

Didn't the Chargers play a snow game in Cleveland or somewhere a few years back? And they whooped ass. I remember Gates running like 80 yards for a TD in the snow with nobody near him.

Does it really matter if it was Cleveland?

KurtCobain 12-25-2010 09:43 PM

The Raiders game is gonna be fun with nothing on the line but revenge.

**** revenge. If that game is really meaningless, I say rest everybody and laugh at the fact those cocksmokers went 6-0 in the division and got 3rd place.

Hammock Parties 12-25-2010 09:58 PM

There is no ****ing way I want Haley resting anyone in the Raiders game, unless it's in the second half and we're up 28.

It's already amazing they are undefeated in the division and in third place in the division. unfathomable.

So, when Rivers cries, it's gonna freeze on his face. Terrific.

The Bad Guy deserves an assload of rep if this happens

Frazod 12-26-2010 12:03 AM

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Chargers shit themselves on this one.

Sadly, I also won't be a bit surprised if we shit ourselves, either.

I would. We are THAT good at home this year, and pretty damn good in general this year. Better than the Titans for sure. Plus we need the game really badly, and they don't really have anything to play for at this point. I wouldn't be totally shocked if we lost, but I'd be pretty surprised.

Yep. Gotta agree.

Though I still think we clobber the Titans.

Only way we lose this one is if our DBs give up a bunch of long passes IMO. If that happens early it will loosen up things for CJ. If we weather the early story and/or pummel Collins then I think we will win going away...

Yeah, NOAA says only a chance of snow tomorrow, and only an inch or two at that. No way it becomes a "snow game."

It'll be cold, though. That's worth something I guess.

SenselessChiefsFan 12-26-2010 09:02 AM

If the Chiefs win, I think the Chargers lose. They know, at that point, the Chiefs only have to beat the Raiders. And, they know it will be in Arrowhead. I think they will play the game flat.

If the Chiefs lose, then I expect the Chargers to win. It will give the Chargers new life.

Hmmm, maybe I spoke too soon in the Haley thread about fail. Sensible has got to be up there as well.

FlaChief58 12-26-2010 09:33 AM

To someone who lives in a cold climate, I'm sure a gametime temp of 30 deg "isn't all that bad" but for those of us living in warm parts of the country, 30 is F'ing cold!

petegz28 12-26-2010 09:52 AM

If it's inclimate weather in Cinci I give the Bungles a chance at the win. Rivers doesn't like to be uncomfortable. That is the biggest flaw in his game. San Diego has not played on a cold field all season. An with TO out I think the Bungles focus on football and not if TO is happy or not. Could be the edge they need.

11-1 in December for the last 3 years.

In the previous 3 years, they've been in cities that might have been in cold weather, twice at Tennesee, and once in KC, so it's not something that you can look at and say they aren't affected by the weather.

Following up a little, the game at Tenn in '07, the temp at game time was 65.

The game at KC, gametime temp was 46.

The game at Tenn, gametime temp was 46, as well.

So, in fact, they haven't had to deal with the kind of weather they might see today.

I kept reading these responses that talk about the Chargers record in December, which people were suggesting that they hadn't been affected by weather, and living here in California and getting a lot of Charger coverage, I couldn't remember any inclement weather games they were involved in in the last 3 or 4 years.

So I had to check it out.

Hootie 12-26-2010 10:53 AM

we're not resting anyone no matter what...

we'll be playing for the 3 seed in week 17...Colts are gonna dust the Raiders

Extra Point 12-26-2010 10:57 AM

I just hope the Bengals stack the box with their immortal stadium (IMMO-DIUM) defense, and stop the runs and dumps.

chiefzilla1501 12-26-2010 11:14 AM

If I could pick a condition for the Chargers to play in, this would be it.

The Bengals are at their best when they commit to the run. Commit to it, not abandon it so they can keep their selfish receivers happy. It keeps the ball out of Palmer's hands and makes the defense better. The Bengals can most certainly beat the Chargers. I'm more concerned than anything that they won't care today. They look like they're mailing it in and trying to get draft picks.

LaChapelle 12-26-2010 11:24 AM

It would take a full Raider style meltdown
for the Chargers to blow this game

KChiefs1 12-26-2010 02:13 PM

Can't see the Chargers blowing this one.

Frankie 12-26-2010 04:01 PM

13-0 Cinci. So far so good

KCrockaholic 12-26-2010 04:03 PM

I love Cincy at this moment. And it's funny that the San Diego kids play like shit when they get away from their perfect weather.
