The Stat matchup for Ravens vs. Chiefs

Ravens:

Defense=8
Offense=22

O-Passing=20
O-Rushing=14

Chiefs:
Defense=11
Offense=12

O-Passing=28
O-Rushing=1

For those who are butthurt that we aren't playing the Jets:

Jets:

Offense=11
Defense=3

O-Passing=23
O-Rushing=3

So right off the bat from the base stats you have to say we got the weaker team in Baltimore.

Here's a stat:

Last time the Ravens played the Chiefs, Charles only averaged 2 ypc.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-02-2011 06:42 PM

Both teams would be tough matchups and a good test for this young team.

Hammock Parties 01-02-2011 06:42 PM

Baltimore is a better team than the Jets.

They won more games against a more difficult schedule. They have a better quarterback and more top-flight talent on defense, and a better coaching staff.

There is no comparison.

They have a worse offensive line and a far worse secondary (sans Ed Reed).

2 areas the Chiefs have problems is having a corner to shut down Bowe (Namdi) and a physical offensive line.

Ravens offense is having problems.

They can be run on no doubt.

petegz28 01-02-2011 06:45 PM

Surprising stats on defense:

Pass Defense:

Ravens=20
Chiefs=16
Jets=6

I would not have thought us to be ranked higher than the Ravens in Pass D.

Rush Defense:

Ravens=4
Chiefs=11
Jets=5

mcaj22 01-02-2011 06:46 PM

all that experience, especially around playoff time.

Haloti Ngata, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed.

Tough sledding for sure. This will be the most talented roster on paper we have seen all season.

Out of all the stats the Jets rank higher than the Ravens in more categories than not. Playing Baltimore may not be as bad as some are saying and playing the Jets might have been worse than some were saying

You are focusing too much on stats.

The Ravens won more games against a more difficult schedule.

They are unquestionably a better team than the Jets.

Here are the oh so tough teams GC keeps taunting that the Ravens faced..

Real tough teams

Jets= won by 1
Pit= won by 3
NE=lost by 3
ATL=lost by 5
Pit=lost by 3
No=won by6

Now the rest of their schdule you aren't supposed to see

Cin=LOST by 5
Cle=won
Den=won
Buf=won
Mia=won
Car=won
TB=won
Cle again=won
Cin again=won

So how I see it they faced teams with a losing record 7 games. And some with worse records than the worst team we faced.

Hammock Parties 01-02-2011 07:06 PM

Beating Tampa Bay and beating Miami is more impressive than anything the Chiefs did this year. And so is beating New Orleans, Pittsburgh and the Jets, so you have no legs, Pete.

FringeNC 01-02-2011 07:06 PM

Ravens average 5.1 yards per play on offense, and give up 5.1 yards per play on defense. Statistically, Jets are the better team and have a slightly higher strength of schedule.

I wanted to play the Jets, but after looking at the stats, I'm not so sure. Baltimore is a good team. A better team than us. Hardly dominant, though.

Playing Cinci and Cle 4 times was so hard for them too. Toss on Car, Den abd Buf and you have the hardest schedule in the NFL in your eyes, I am guessing?

dirk digler 01-02-2011 07:09 PM

Honestly none of these stats matter and who each team played. All that matters is that we are in the playoffs and anything can happen especially when we play at home. I like our chances.

RustShack 01-02-2011 07:09 PM

I seem to recall saying the Chiefs defense would finish #11 and Dane among many others let me have it. I told someone to mark it down but I'm sure whoever did wont come forward! But anyways, tell me how my ass tastes!

You're missing the point.

The Ravens played and beat several good teams this year. Without question, they had a harder schedule than the Jets.

And they won more games.

End of discussion.

The Jets had the harder schedule.

Baltimore is -2.5 (Exactly the line I predicted a few weeks ago).

So Baltimore is a favorite, but winning as a 2.5 point underdog barely even classifies as an upset. GoChiefs should drop some serious coin on Baltimore, given his outlook.

OldTownChief 01-02-2011 07:16 PM

Being in Arrowhead is our only chance in hell but after today it just depends on who shows up to play.

*sigh*

Pete, I know you are a reerun but please, please try to understand.

Games against teams with winning records:

Jets - 6
Ravens - 7

Wins against teams with winning records:

Jets - 2
Ravens - 4

Also, the Ravens beat the Jets.

WITHOUT QUESTION...they are a better football team.

No, they didn't.

The played fewer games against teams with winning records.

And they had a losing record against teams with winning records.

Mr. Laz 01-02-2011 07:22 PM

matchups are a big key ... Ravens are probably the better team but i think the Jets are a harder matchup for us.

1. Jets have a more physical Oline
2. Jets have more speed at WR
3. Jets have a better secondary

it's going to be tough but i think our defense will do better against the Ravens.

our offense?? who the hells knows ... if our Oline turns all pussy like today then it won't matter regardless of who we play.

keg in kc 01-02-2011 07:23 PM

It's kind of a six of one/half dozen of the other question when you're comparing the Jets to Baltimore. They're both defensive teams that run the ball behind unproven quarterbacks, although I think Flacco is much more dangerous (to us) than Sanchez (who can be dangerous to the Jets).

Honestly half the reason I wanted the Jets is so that we could watch Cassel beat Sanchez. It would have been poetic. But Baltimore is who we got.

I think we'll actually win the game. Today was an aberration, and I think people are jumping off the boat too quickly, including the national media.

RustShack 01-02-2011 07:29 PM

I like Hali and our defense against the Ravens OL more than I do the Jets. I like Bowe and our receivers against the Ravens DB's than I do the Jets, and I like Charles more against the Ravens old slow D than I do the Jets.

Ravens have allowed 40 sacks and 78 QB hits. Jets have only allowed 28

by the same token the Chiefs have 38 sacks and Ravens only 27

petegz28 01-02-2011 07:34 PM

We have faced teams who are better at QB sacks than the Ravens. I think the passing game will be there.

This is a good point, I just hope the Chiefs can get a lead to take advantage.

What worries me though is our Oline.

I honestly think Brandon Albert is "soft". Richardson has been a revolving door lately.

And I hope they don't match up Wiegman power for power against Ngata. I'd much rather take my chances with Waters but I'd still consider that a mismatch.

*they're gonna have to find a way to gameplan around that physical DL the Ravens have.

Well, we have the #2 rusher in the league on our home field against an o-line that lets people get to the QB. I would guess a lot of that has to do with Flaco being a pocket passer. It would be nice though if Pioli sent the league some videos of the non-called holding penalties against Hali this week though.

We handled the Titans D which is no slouch. And we handled them pretty easily. So hopefully we won't see much of a problem.
