The Positivity Thread

Tough loss. Embarrassed at home. Every other thread here is Cassel flaming (rightfully) or thread pumping to prove one's point or just down right depressing about this whole thing.

It has been said before, but it was a good season nevertheless. Please list the positives you see about this team going forward. Do your best to mention nothing but positive points. I really need to look at this thread and see people saying good things because I can't ****ing look at the news or any other sports website without seeing headlines or pictures of Ravens celebrating. So here we go:

- Berry is going to be a beast.
- We have a very promising secondary.
- Jamal Charles
- Romeo Cernnel
- Pioli, when he had one year under his belt, did quite well with the draft. Here's hoping he also does well with the coming draft.
- Locked up JC, DJ. Hali and Flowers on the way.
- This year's playoff loss was tough, but it should be a good experience for this young team.
- Next year's schedule will be a good time to test this team as well. Somehow, this year's wins felt good, but they would have felt way better had they been against good teams. Here's hoping that next year we get a few good ones. I consider this a positive.

Please list any positives about this team. I am one the verge of depression and I need something refreshing to look at.

Rep to those who positivy this thread.

Glen Dorsey and Shaun Smith did well on the Dline. Jackson had a few promising moments, hidden by plenty of moments of pure shit.

The positive? The Ravens are a better team.

If we'd have gone out there and lost to the Seahawks or the Colts, I'd be more angry. But in all reality, a win in this game would've been stealing a ballgame from a more talented opponent. We have the advantage at 1 position on the field, really - RB. And even then, it's just the starting RB. They have worlds more depth at the position and Rice isn't exactly crap.

The front 7, skill position players, O-line and QB is just flat better than ours. And the corners aren't as good as ours, but the safeties are better and deeper (no McGraws out there for those guys).

They're just flat better. But here's the upshot - they won't always be. We didn't lose for lack of trying, we didn't lose for lack of coaching (as much as everyone hates Weis right now).

We lost to the better, more tested ballclub. These things happen and this team should learn from it.

I can live with that. I'm not going to get back how badly the 2009 draft jumped up and kicked our ass today or how critical the failings of the 2nd round of 2010 were. I'll only note that we simply lost to the better team and the NFL doesn't favor longetivity. Perhaps we'll be that club someday but today we weren't.

Here's to incremental improvement, both to the ballclub and the front office. The Chiefs are improved over the 2009 version because the 2010 offseason was a little better than the 2009 one. Here's hoping the front office shows the same type of incremental improvement the team did and has a better 2011 offseason than they did in 2010. This experience had to teach them something and I'm hoping that knowledge is put to good use.

ToxSocks 01-10-2011 10:29 AM

I was going to try to avoid this place, though I was hoping their would be a thread like this.

1. Barry Richardson and Brandon Albert didn't do that bad. I thought both of our lines showed up and did pretty well. Really surprised by Dorsey. I thought he was beastly early on.

2. Our "Big Time Players" showed up, with the exception of Bowe. We saw great things from Dorsey, Hali, Flowers, Berry & Charles. Carr wasn't terrible once he got his feet under him and....I'll continue this in a moment......heh.....

The D isn't last in EVERY catagory!!

D-Bowe's coming out party

Cassel's improvement

Jamaal is a beast

Hali AFC sack leader

Hosted a playoff game

The D IS NOT LAST IN EVERY CATAGORY!!

They had 2 more wins than I thought they would get

My official AFCW Champ shirt just arrived after getting lost in the mail ( ok, maybe that one is not so good since I wanted to wear it yesterday)

The D is much improved

ReynardMuldrake 01-10-2011 10:33 AM

We shut down Ray Rice for the most part. We busted a long TD on a club that has not given up a rushing TD in forever. We lead for most of the first half of the game.

We still had a great draft class in 2010. Our team has improved every year with Haley. I am hopeful that our front office will draft well again this year. As long as our team continues to show improvement year after year, our long-term future looks very bright.

postively, the Broncos were just totally destroyed as an organization, and they'll probably be trading orton.

The raiders are collapsing again, hopefully losing at least bush, gallery, and Aso.... along with already losing the best asset they've had in a long time in Cable.

San Deigo isn't what they once were, and they'll hopefully lose Jackson. Also, Sproles isn't what he once was, and Matthews can't stay healthy. Tolbert is pretty good at time though. their last few drafts aren't awe inspiring.

KC. Looking better on both sides of the ball. solid staff, solid players are getting contract extensions, solid drafts and only a short list of players away from being a very good team.

DJ's left nut 01-10-2011 10:51 AM

Excllent point, Sofa.

For as nasty as our schedule will be next year, nobody in the West will have a cakewalk and Denver will still suck.

I'm not throwing dirt on SD yet - they still showed they are a force when motivated and Matthews showed some serious ability late. They are, however, getting a bit long in the tooth. Any team with Rivers at QB is going to be dangerous, but I don't see them as an unreachable goal at this point - 1 offseason should be enough to close the talent gap between the two squads.

And the Raiders....oh the Raiders. I'd have been horrified by those guys next season. They'd have been a very tough out. Fortunately Al Davis is a ****tard and I hope he's also a vampire that lives forever. I can't see them rebounding from this offseason, I just can't.

So even with the inevitable step back, we're still in okay shape next season. And despite all the things I said in my previous post in this thread, for most of that game we were 1 play made/not made (1 good pass, Charles not fumbling, etc...) away from taking the lead and making it a much different ballgame.

There's reason for hope, maybe even lots of it.

ReynardMuldrake 01-10-2011 10:54 AM

Next season the Broncos and the Raiders will suck once again just as they should.

Stay ahead of the Chargers and we can go to the playoffs two years running.

ReynardMuldrake 01-10-2011 10:58 AM

**** that, I don't give up on my team. I'm proud of my Chiefs. We sent the Chargers home to watch the playoffs this year dammit. This is not a team that stays down. Next season I say we have another dynamite draft, wheel and deal some FA's, hire a badass OC, lace up, get out there and march up and down this league!

Who's with me?

Demonpenz 01-10-2011 11:11 AM

I feel better this morning know that Rivers crumbled against the bengals in a non playoff game. The raiders suck, Denver scares me alittle bit because Teblow has God on his side, but we got legit best players in the league at a couple positions.

In with the shortest response:

YOUTH

Just Passin' By 01-10-2011 12:27 PM

The Chiefs have depth at DE
The ILBs look as if they can get the job done if a NT can be found
The CBS look as if they are ready to be very difficult to throw against
The safeties played very well for rookies, and should be even better next year.

In total, the defense looks as if a NT and 1-2 OLBs could turn it into a very good squad.

Cassel showed improvement
Charles continues to be a force
Bowe improved his focus with regards to catching the ball
Moeaki looks as if he'll be a quality TE, as long as he can stay healthy

The team got valuable playoff experience, and did it against what is probably the second best team in the AFC.

All in all, I think the Chiefs have a lot to be proud of this year. Pioli has a lot of work to do with regards to the offensive line and the wideouts, but the personnel is clearly getting better overall, and the Chiefs should have money to spend to help make that happen.

58kcfan89 01-10-2011 12:34 PM

Like others have said, we have a helluva foundation with a lot of YOUTH to make this team into a title contender.

On defense:
Berry took a big step forward yesterday when the Ravens tried to pick on him.
Carr improved throughout the year.
Flowers is a monster when healthy.
K. Lewis is one helluva ballhawk.
DJ is finally playing to his potential.
Tamba is one of the best pass rushers in the league.
Dorsey is looking like a top 5 pick IMO (not great stats but doing his job very well).
S. Smith has been a great pickup IMO, has been a leader of the defense for most of the year.

And on offense...
Gotta start with Jamaal. Dude seems good for at least one 40+ yard run per game. He's young and locked up. Keep him healthy & it's all good.
Albert, while still inconsistent, looked great at times.
Lilja was a good pickup.
Richardson played well but not so great that we can't replace him with a better RT.
Waters had his moments of greatness...
Moeaki looks like a solid TE for a long time (glad he stayed healthy).
Bowe finally looked like an elite WR for half the year. Hope he can keep it up.
I'm holding out hope that McCluster can be what he was in college & TC, he obviously has the ability to, we just need to put him in the right position IMO.
Weigmann, Jones were good stop-gaps, but both need to be replaced.

And Cassel...Well, he showed that he can be a good QB when put in the right situation. I'm holding out some hope that the front office/coaching staff can figure out how to put him in the right situation to succeed. He wasn't amazing, but when he was playing well, this team looked pretty damn good. Here's to Cassel's last 2 games being a fluke moving forward.........

Special teams:
Colquitt is who we knew he was. Great.
Succop is a good, young K.
Arenas & McCluster can be great returners for us for years to come. They struggled at times this year but there were plenty of times when there were no holes.

And perhaps the biggest positive for me: This team is going to get better. A lot better. The young guys will keep improving and there's a few holes to fill (but not so many that it's overwhelming). I have a feeling this offseason is going to see a lot of new talent coming to KC. Call me a homer, but I trust Pioli. He clearly has a vision for this team and the Kansas City Chiefs are clearly on the upswing.

God, I can't wait for free agency & the draft...

Ming the Merciless 01-10-2011 12:40 PM

Probably has been said but this is only year 2 of a turn around..(heading into year 3).The BIGGEST turn-around in franchise history. Next season's schedule looks tough, but all we have to do is keep improving, inch by inch...Clawing our way....All we have to do is be better than the other 3 teams in our division consistently. If we keep improving, and stay ahead of the division we will taste victory in the playoffs.

It is strange to say after giving up 30 points but I saw a defense that has serious potential to be very good. Berry will be a beast for years and there are not enough positive words to express how good Hali can be. Defense is what made me a Chiefs fan in the first place so I am excited about the future of this group.

Jamaal is just electrifying. What a great weapon for our new OC.

Moeaki has lived up to his hype IMO. The man simply catches anything thrown his direction.

HemiEd 01-10-2011 01:04 PM

Positives? Most have been mentioned, but one.

Bill Cowher said after the game that Cassel looked like a rookie QB out there, so that must mean he is going to learn not to shit his pants next year. :D

I know the defense gave up 30 points but after the first half, I felt like the defense would need to play a near perfect game to keep us in it because the offense wasn't going anywhere without JC25.

They certainly didn't play a perfect half but did some good things while being put in a bad position. I'm excited, especially if we can keep Romeo around for awhile.

Here's a positive: next season is going to tell us everything we need to know about this team much in the same way the playoff game exposed the numerous flaws that need to be fixed.

No one on our team can hide against next year's schedule. And Pioli's ability to bring in impact players will be obvious. Either he will make the moves this offseason to compete or he'll bring in players that permit the Chiefs to miss the playoffs.

Berry was the big standout to me yesterday...WOW--We have a STUD on defense. Hali is obvious and the fact that we were there at all is just gravy. Plus its not like we were the Saints losing to the Seahawks.

I am super happy about the progress of this team and look forward to seeing what they put together over the off-season and how we progress from here.

One more bit of good news:

We're not the Minnesota Vikings.

Criminy, can you imagine being a fan of those guys right now? "2 seasons ago we were one bad decision from a likely SB championship. Now we're a 5-win team led by a superstar RB that plays a style that will not be long for the NFL, we're aging at every key position and our QB options appear to be Webb, Jackson or Donavan McNabb. FML"

So yeah, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

They stuffed baltimore time after time, at the expense of the middle of the field yes, but still, just to see a KC defense be stout like that gave me some hope.

Speaking of hope, lets hope Romeo doesnt jump ship like a scared rat... this guy put together a very, Very respectable defense considering all of the leftovers, projects & rookies he was tasked with turning into a legit NFL squad.
