Thanks truebigdog!
My Drivers: *Dale Earnhardt #88* Kyle Busch #18 Juan Montoya #42 Tony Stewart #14 Brad Kewelowski #12 In addition to the drivers above, I was fond of Denny Hamlin #12. Hamlin drove for Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR Busch Series. As Hamlin made the move to the Cup Series, his mentality every weekend is to rub drivers the wrong way. Anyone who follows NASCAR knows that it’s harder to pass a car than it is to wreck a car. Hamlin intentionally wrecks drivers. Hamlin is talented. I don't have an issue with his aggressive driving style. I was a huge Earnhardt, Sr. fan. But if Earnhardt was behind you, you'd better have a faster car or else he would move you. Earnhardt's creed was, "lead, follow, or get out of the way." Hamlin has to reach a higher level of maturity. Surprisingly, I could start to root for him again. |
Um, Dylan, you misspelled Keselwos...no...Kezelow...err...Keselewol...ahhh **** it.

I started to put "least favorite drivers" in the header as well, but there are too many of mine that fall directly in line with favorites of others. Specifically the #88, #24, #48, and often the #29.
Dale Sr was my least favorite of all time. For the same reason as some of the ones above. If he put you in the wall it was a "racing thing". If you put him in the wall it was a travesty and you were reckless. |

from ESPN:
Report: NASCAR mulls points overhaul CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR is considering scrapping the points system it has used since 1975 in favor of a simpler method that awards points per finishing position, The Associated Press has learned. The overhauling of the system is one of a handful of changes NASCAR is considering implementing before the season begins next month. Series officials have been detailing their ideas in individual meetings with teams, a person who attended one of the briefings told The AP on Monday. The person spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity because NASCAR has not finalized its upcoming changes. The sanctioning body wants to go to a scoring system that would award 43 points to the race winner, and one point less for each ensuing position down to one point for the 43rd-place finisher. NASCAR is also shying away from wholesale changes to its Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format. NASCAR chairman Brian France floated the idea last July of shaking up the Chase to create more drama to the 10-week series that determines the Cup champion. Among France's suggestions were widening the 12-driver field, instituting elimination rounds, and adding any other drama that could create "Game 7" type moments rivaling those from other professional sports leagues. But teams have been told NASCAR is leaning toward keeping it a 12-driver field, with one caveat: The top 10 drivers following the 26th race of the season would qualify for the Chase, while the remaining two spots would go to the drivers with the most wins who are not already eligible for the Chase. NASCAR officials have also told teams they aren't leaning toward adding eliminations. Preseason testing begins Thursday at Daytona International Speedway, and NASCAR president Mike Helton and vice president of competition Robin Pemberton are scheduled to discuss some of the changes planned for 2011. But the major announcements aren't scheduled until next week when France makes a presentation during Charlotte Motor Speedway's annual media tour. France and his top officials found themselves in a precarious position at the end of last season, which was marked by the closest championship race in seven years. France had already publicly toyed with the idea of changing the Chase, which was implemented in 2004 to spice up NASCAR's championship system. "Right now every sports league, or almost every one, is looking at what they need to do to change their formats a little or a lot, depending on who they are, to make sure their playoffs or their championship runs are what they want them to be," France said two days before the November season finale. Three drivers went into the season finale eligible to win the championship. It went to Jimmie Johnson, who overcame a 15-point deficit to Denny Hamlin in the final race to win his record fifth consecutive title. Because the system seemingly worked as the Chase played out last season, sweeping changes did not seem necessary. The points system, though, apparently is a different matter. NASCAR legend claims the current system was devised on a napkin over drinks at a Daytona bar in 1974 and implemented the next season. The complicated scoring method gives 175 points to the winner, and decreases in increments of five points and then three points down to 34 points for the last-place finisher. Five-point bonuses are awarded for leading a lap, and to the driver who leads the most laps. NASCAR is still debating how to award bonuses under a straight points system, and ideas being considered are for anywhere from one to three points being given to lap leaders and race winners. |
JJ loves the chase and it is the reason for his great run. Jeff Gordon has been screwed out a couple times and Harvick would have won the title by close to 300 points last year in the old format. How can there be no reward for leading the points for the last 26 weeks of the season? He started out third in the chase  NASCAR trying to change to get new fans and there was nothing wrong with the original system to begin with~

Put me down as a big #48 fan. Yeah, yeah. I HATED NASCAR until my oldest son got into it (I have no idea how.), and he's a #48 fan so I'm with him. If that's heresy around here, my second favorite driver is the #99. |

Possible qualifying change? I like this one.
(from jayski) Change in Sprint Cup qualifying? NASCAR is considering a new system that would change the order of qualifying. Instead of drawing for qualifying order as teams have done in previous seasons, the qualifying order would at least in part be determined by speed in the practice prior to qualifying. Teams in the Camping World Truck Series already use the system [a few times in 2010]. "It is a possibility. & We're throwing a bunch of ideas around in the meetings with the teams," NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby said Friday. "We want to finish all the meetings, get everybody's input and then finalize some stuff." The idea is to have the faster drivers, the ones who will challenge for the pole, qualify near the end of the session and add drama to the qualifying show. It is possible that the drivers not locked in the field because their teams are outside the top 35 in owner points will still be grouped together at the end of the session. |
New year will bring several more changes to NASCAR.

- New Car (New model "specific" noses, remove the splitter. Good) - New Restrictor Plate(They change the damn thing every race, no big deal. Smaller plate likely because the new, fast, asphalt=probably more exciting Daytona unless they ride in protest like last year. Good) - New Tire Rule( Not sure about this) - New Fuel (Ethanol. No difference) - New Qualifying Rules (Change the order, no difference unless you actually watch qualifying) - New Points Rules(No difference. Literally it makes no damn difference whether 1st=43 points or 175 points) - New Chase (actually be kind of cool if they deliver. 2 guys with most wins outside of top 10=chase._ |

Quite often conditions in a qualifying round favor the guys who go out early in the session. We've all seen it. |

Chase will go to top 10, plus 2 biggest winners: Twelve NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will make the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2011 -- the top 10 in points and the two drivers not in the top 10 who have the most race victories in NASCAR's 26-race regular season. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France is expected to confirm that arrangement, along with a points system that gives 43 points to race winners and then one-point increments down to just one point for the last-place finisher. Each driver who leads a lap will get one bonus point, and regular-season race winners are expected to get two or three Chase bonus points for each victory. There will be no knockout rounds in the Chase, as NASCAR had hinted at earlier |
Number FOUR Kasey Kahne is my dude. I also root for Tony Stewart because he's ****ing badass, but I don't pay attention enough to know what his number is now.

Tony is the #14, OP Edited

But yeah, put me down for number 4 and 14. Never been too big on Nascar, just following Kahne with some friends the last few years, but this year I plan to check it out more. I went to Kansas Speedway last year and it was an awesome experience. |
These are some pretty good changes.
|
New Qualifying Procedure The qualifying order will be set based upon slowest to fastest practice speeds.
Inclement Weather Qualifying If bad weather cancels qualifying, the final starting lineup will be determined by practice speeds. The same rule book procedures will be used to determine eligibility to start a race. If weather cancels practice sessions, then the starting lineup will be set by points, per the rule book. |

The #14's Primary sponsors are Office Depot for 22 races, Burger King for 2, and (unbeknownst to me until I looked it up just now) Mobil1 for 11 races this year. |

Daytona 500 is the most exciting track on the NASCAR circuit. It's also of the the world's ten most dangerous racetracks.
2010 Daytona 500: Jamie McMurray Wins -- McMurray held off Dale Jr. to win the Daytona 500. I agree with DW, "He looked like daddy coming through there." Jr moved up 10 positions in one lap -- going from 10th to 2nd. All Jr needed was 1/2 a lap and he would've won. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9mZaSqMwWvw" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> |
