Going to Vegas

This is a birthday present for me.

My birthday was like 3 weeks ago.

Anyways, I fully expect this thread to be full of ideas of what I can do in Vegas by the time I get there. Its a 5-6 hour drive.

And also just to get this out of the way, no gay jokes or mom jokes. There, now they aren't funny anymore.

Jewish Rabbi 02-11-2011 10:55 AM

Are there still casinos in Vegas? You could gamble if there are.

Iowanian 02-11-2011 11:01 AM

How much money did your mom let you have for gay street porn when she gets done driving you there? Be sure to wear your hat and you feather boa.

I thought that stuff was free?

Reerun_KC 02-11-2011 11:04 AM

I will be out there from March 4-6th..

Buck 02-11-2011 11:05 AM

I've heard the Hilton has the best sportsbook. Is there any reason I should go there to bet on college basketball instead of any other place?

Iowanian 02-11-2011 11:06 AM

I just booked a trip last night for August.

Have you been before?
Get a players card, use it when you gamble, and try talking to a host to see what you can get in comps(meals, hotel etc)

There are tons and tons of things to do. I prefer the smaller places over the mega casinos, just for the atmosphere. Hit Fremont st at night, I like a little casino S of harrahs called BILLS and O'Sheas. There is a piano bar in Harrahs that is kind of fun, you can do the stratosphere rides if you want to do something different.

Go to the pawn store from TV and see if you can sell them a box of antique ball hair.

I've been once since I turned 21. Went with my Mom and Grandpa. Going again this time with my Mom. I'm going again in a few months with friends.

My mom wants to go to that Pawn shop but I'm not interested.

Thanks for the tips.

Also I just read something saying the Wynn has the best Sportsbook and thats where I'm staying. Perfect.

luv 02-11-2011 11:09 AM

You're on your way there now?

2112 02-11-2011 11:09 AM

The Mirage has really gone down hill in 10 years. they got rid of that bar in the middle of the casino that was a central meeting point. they got rid of the flags on the lounge chairs by the pool that signified you needed a drink when you raised it. and its gotten hella expensive.

There is a lil dump called casino royale across from the mirage thats next to a dennys. they have penny slots, 50 cents roulette and dollar mini craps..lol..if you feel like doing the cheap thing. I always go there to change my luck when im on a losing streak. a dump to avoid is slots-o-fun next to circus circus.

Use the monorail to get around. it costs 10 bucks for the whole day and will take you from the stratosphere up to mgm grande. there is a monorail place across from the mirage in harrahs.

I havent been down to freemont st in a long time. I used to like fitzgeralds and the golden nugget down there. but you must get out of there by midnight if you wanna get back to the strip. freemont st is more like a day time adventure.

Have fun and good luck!

I heard they have some Star Trek crap there. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I'm definitely a nerd, so I will be checking it out.

Yeah, they do have that star trek thing there. the last time I was there was august 2001, so things may have changed.

Los Pollos Hermanos 02-11-2011 11:16 AM

I have not noticed much difference in sports books. At least not enough to go out of my way to go to a specific one.

Los Pollos Hermanos 02-11-2011 11:20 AM

I'm probably in the minority but I love downtown.

Saccopoo 02-11-2011 11:27 AM

Hoover Dam. Amazing piece of civil engineering.

The rest of the city can be burn off the map in a nuclear fire as far as I'm concerned.

Last time we went out we rode all three rides on the stratosphere, very cool as long as your not too afraid of heights and definitely worth a visit. The only one I didn't like much was the really short coaster ride that took you off the edge. It's like paying for whiplash. Being taken up on the needle was really cool and the seats that hang you over the edge were my favorite.

Don't forget to go see a show if you're looking for alternative things to do. We went to go see a Rat Pack tribute and it was a blast. Probably the best part of the whole trip.

The Star Trek Experience is long gone.

Bowser 02-11-2011 11:53 AM

The wife won 1K in like 20 minutes downtown at Binnions. And also downtown, the both of us got steak dinners for under 50 bucks, when the day before we hadd gourmet hamburgers at some hamburger joint between Mandalay and Luxor that ran us well over 100 bucks. And don't forget to hit up Dick's Last Resort in Excalibur. Have fun.

Donger 02-11-2011 11:55 AM

Nuke the city from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Hoover Dam is cool, though. I think the new bridge just opened, too. Last time I was there, it was still under construction.

Theres tons to do here, but it depends on what your 'agenda" is...Since you are with your mom, youre not interested in tittie bars?

Downtown is awesome and cheaper than the Strip. A Killer Vegas steakhouse is inside Four Queens. Its called HUGOS. $60-70 a person, you get a killer steak, salad, veggie, potato and a little dessert. Plus it has the whole old school vegas mob feel. My favorite in town for sure. Also a round of drinks in downtown is like $20 as opposed to $100 on the Strip.

There is a great Piano bar downtown as well call "Dont tell Mamas" Singing bartenders and theyre very good. Free to get in and its a kick.

As far as shows, Jersey Boys at Palazzo is great--Mystere is my fave cirque show and if you can, see Steel Panther--A heavy metal tribute band thats is hilarious, but maybe not safe for Mom--not sure, dont know your mom. Mine would laugh her ass off, so...

I'll look at our calender when I get into my studio and if I see some other stuff going on this weekend that you should know about, I'll let you know...:thumb:

You can jump off the Stratosphere now--some free fall ride--dont worry, you are tied to something--looks crazy tho--no thanks!

I went up to the the observation deck on the stratosphere and saw bolts shaking on the supports to those insane rides. you couldnt pay me to get on one of those. I liked happy hour in the afternoon in the bar above the spinarama dining room. although you need a map to find the bathroom.

The one thing I love is being able to walk almost anywhere with a bottle of beer in your hand.

I must say looking back on it now I am very happy that I saw Sigfried and Roy. that was a great show! and thats when the Mirage was the shit.

I'd definitely get a hooker.

1. It's legal.

2. There are probably some really nice hookers.

3. You only live once.

Point of note, they can hand out all the card they want, but they can't say anything , if they do then it is considered "solicitation." Also take notice of all the paperstand machines full of "ads", totally legal.

cardken 02-11-2011 01:42 PM

El Cortez downtown totally remodeled and cheap as well as Gold Spike on Ogden. A lot of revitalization going on downtown, worth the look.

I think the cards are for strippers, or possibly "escorts".

From what I understand, prostitution is not legal in Vegas, but is legal in certain counties in Nevada, most of which are several miles outside Vegas (which is where the famous brothels are). But the prostitution laws in Vegas aren’t the cops’ top priorities and are often times overlooks, similar to drug laws in Amsterdam (the only place with true 100% legalization of drugs is Portugal). I think its kind of like getting a open container charge when you get a DUI – they don’t really care unless you are breaking other laws or do something to draw attention to yourself.

ExtremeChief 02-11-2011 03:29 PM

I'm going in two weeks. I went a couple years ago. The piano bar inside was fun...hell I even got up an sang a couple of times with the two female blonde piano players. There is a bar outside of harrahs that is a good time too.

Fremont street is a good time. The big thing is Friday's at Fremont but I don't think they start until later in the spring. The covered street is something to see with the milions of LED bulbs like a huge freaking TV.

Me and my sons are going. One of them is turning 21 at midnight the night we arrive. Should be a blast

I learned in the hooker thread that hookers are relatively expensive in Vegas. If you want a hooker, you can spend the money on airfare and go to Peru and get a hooker and potentially come out ahead.

You'll love the Wynn - it's the only place I'll stay in Vegas. Excellent service, great poker room, the rooms are outstanding and they pool area is incredible as well.

Pricey at times, but worth it, IMO.

Not sure what the weather is like there this time of year, but if the pool is open, go all the way to the back by the bar/gaming tables. That's the adult pool, and the views are very nice. :D

I like the sports book at New York, New York. This is also just a fun general atmosphere casino.

Best casinos to wonder around drunk as hell = Excalibur and Planet Hollywood

The Wynn is super boring, though they have this outdoor bar next to this awesome waterfall that I like to go to and have a few 12 dollar drinks at.

My favorite thing to do in Vegas is get up around noon, start drinking and spend the day people watching. Eventually I get drunk, and then the people watcher becomes the watched.

Great city.

I recommend Freemont street as well, cheaper gambling and cheaper drinks.
