If the Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli was parsing Dan's list from www.mockingthedraft.com who would we, could we, and should we look at? Lets dissect the best 2011 NFL Draft talent by scheme, then by need, then we will have a good criteria in place for the first three rounds of the Chiefs Draft. We have picks number 21, 55, and 88 around 122, 150, 154, 186, and 218 (ballparkish) as we sit today. So lets go :) Lets eliminate the 4-3 defensive players and the Power Scheme blockers. 3. Justin Houston FTW.
|
My gut feeling is it's going to be Phil Taylor , because Pioli's philosophy of DL/OL in general.
BPA would be Houston though. |
He eliminates Von Miller as not fitting KC's scheme?
The author apparently doesn't have much of a clue. |
Quote:
That being said...he certainly belonged in the will likely be picked before #21 column. |
76. Luke Stocker | 6'6, 240 pounds | TE | Tennessee - interviewed By Chiefs
uh-oh. |
If someone who knows what they are doing put this together, it would be really great.
Then you rank the remaining candidates based on a combination of talent, leadership ability, stats, measurables, the talent they faced in college.... anything I'm leaving out? You would have a legitimate "Chiefs board" that might resemble the real one. |

Stick to what you've already proven your idiocy on. No need to further prove your idiocy. |

Von Miller doesn't fit our scheme because the NE 3-4 typically employs bigger OLB. I doubt the Chiefs pick him. He's 243 lbs.

eh, it's a smart way to look at the players even if he's wrong about Miller...
but we really have no clue who they'll draft...a CB or RB in the first 3 rounds could happen |

I think Asomoah can bring some of that same mobility, and he can get stronger, to be a more effective guard in the power run game in short yardage situations than we have at this point, but Lija is maxed out in that. I wouldn't use a first round pick on a guard, but we can certainly improve. |
I know it won't happen but......
11. Mark Ingram | 5'10, 215 pounds | RB | Alabama * 18. Mikel Leshoure | 6'0, 230 pounds | RB | Illinois * 21. Blaine Gabbert | 6'5, 240 pounds | QB | Missouri * 25. Cam Newton | 6'6, 246 pounds | QB | Auburn * 26. Kyle Rudolph | 6'6, 265 pounds | TE | Notre Dame * 34. Ryan Williams | 5'10, 210 pounds | RB | Virginia Tech ** 40. Ryan Mallett | 6'7, 238 pounds | QB | Arkansas * 47. Jake Locker | 6'3, 226 pounds | QB | Washington 61. Tyler Sash | 6'1, 210 pounds | SS | Iowa * 65. DeAndre McDaniel | 6'0, 212 pounds | SS | Clemson 71. Jordan Todman | 5'9, 190 pounds | RB | Connecticut * 95. Ahmad Black | 5'9, 185 pounds | SS | Florida The thought of these four being eliminated makes me angry.....We need a backup QB so what's wrong with drafting a backup that could be a franchise even if you already have your franchise guy? Someone pointed it out on another thread, but Favre/Rogers situation sounds good to me. Even if Cassel isn't Favre. |

Four quality guys for two positions? I don't see that as a so much of a need. |
You know what's really odd about this list? That the only first round potential guys that were theoretically interviewed by the Chiefs at the Senior Bowl were two offensive linemen (Costanzo and Watkins) and a potential defensive end (Jordan). And then the second round guys were also offensive linemen and another defensive end. (O'Dowd, Pinkston and Ballard.)
It's to the trenches boys! You win the game in the trenches. However, I was excited about the fact that they also spoke to Devine and Jock Sanders. We are going to be like a swarm of angry bees on the field with a bunch of 5'7" scat backs all over the place. Did anyone hear if they spoke with Jacquizz Rogers as well? *crosses fingers* |
Lilja and Waters got bitchslapped as much as anyone on the line this year, Sac.

You know, I thought that Asamoah played left tackle better than anyone else when he stepped in for Albert this past season. Maybe we should just have those two switch positions. Asamoah can start at left tackle and Albert can be the rotational backup player on the line taking unrestricted free agent Seamus O'Murphy's role. Then we can draft a right tackle, center and a guard. The line would look like: LT: Asamoah LG: Lilja C: Draftee RG: Draftee RT: Draftee Our draft would be something like: 1. Gabe Carimi, OT; Wisconsin 2. Rod Hudson, OG; Florida State 3. Austin Pettis, WR; Boise State 4. Zane Taylor, C; Utah 5. Ian Williams, NT; Notre Dame 5. Tom Keiser, OLB; Stanford 6. Scott Tolzien, QB; Wisconsin 7. Robert Hughes, FB; Notre Dame Shit...this started out being facetious, but that's actually a pretty nice draft for the Chiefs. Really nice. Nope. Not a single complaint if that's how the draft ended up for reals. |
Jesus Christ Sac. Die.

Albert is a terrible run blocker/Sac
He'll be a great G/Sac Those don't seem to line up in my mind.... |

Oh, sure, you remember the game. Albert went down with some form of suckitis, and Asamoah was inserted at the LT spot. It might have only been a couple of series, but he looked solid out there. I remember commenting on how nice it was to have competent left tackle play for a change. Got up out of the blocks nice, got his hands extended and into his guy, moved his feet well. I thought it was one of the season's real highlights.

I've never seen such an obsession with a late round prospect (Zane Taylor) in my entire life.

my 2 cents is Pioli will try to take the best player available regardless of position.. whether its a need or not...
we have Zero quality depth at most positions, which I believe he regards as a need as much as any particular position |

it was waters who moved to left tackle and asamoah came in and played guard.... and dwight freeney is a little better than marginal

We have had three people line up at LT. Albert, Richardson, and Waters. Asomoah did get some snaps when you are thinking of, just not at the position you are thinking of. So I have a hard time believing you were really paying any attention to the line, or that you know anything about an offensive line.

I bet Saccoignorance saw Asamoah playing tight end and thought he was at left tackle....

Hmmmm...I don't know. I was pretty sure it was Asamoah out there. It might have just been a case where they snapped the ball and Waters was still stuck in a three point stance as the play commenced and Asamoah basically ended up playing the left tackle position by default.

Colin Brown, Pioli's 5th round pick isn't on the team anymore, either. |
I've done some research on the shit Sac was pulling out of his ass about Asamoah....
And after further review, Asamoah played zero snaps at LT, BUT he played 12 snaps as the TIGHT END on the LEFT side in our power running formation, also known as "Tackle Over" formation. |

guys,, im still not seeing phil taylor as being the type of character Pioli will go after... i would like him in our 3-4, but he's still not one of the "right 53". i still see us picking a olb; such as justin houston, akeem ayers. a wr; such as torrey smith. or a lineman in the first...
we could easily pick up a proven nt in FA once the cba is agreed upon.. |

NT's are kind of an exception to most of our teams views.
|
We need a WR, OL, OLB. We should take the best value at those positions in the first 2 rounds.

I would be almost willing to bet some serious money on the fact that this regime will give Studebaker his chance at the starting LOLB role next year before making any decision to invest anything significant into the position.
They have invested 2 years into the kid under the wing of Vrabel as well as recently re-signing him to a multiyear contract and I dont think for a second they would make a statement this soon of "we arent happy with Andy to the point that we are gonna invest a premium pick into his specific position. I still think he can be a pretty damn good player in this defense and that in the limited times he was able to get on the field in a bigger role, the defense looked better for it. Time will tell, as always. ... I also wonder what kind of progress Sheffield has made toward recovery and if he will be able to contribute anything significant in the future. He looked like a possible stud in the senior bowl last year and I thought he had a legit chance at being a player, too. Spending a first or second rounder on a player suited to play LOLB would be a sign that they dont feel either can be the guy we lean on in the coming years to man the position and I dont see that being the case at this point, maybe Im wrong. |
Quote:
However, if we arent looking at OLB early on then I hate to think of what will happen if/when the Chiefs draft a LT and allow Asamoah to move back inside. I really dont see many options outside of OLB, in the first, that wouldn't be an absolute stretch, assuming we can't trade down. Justin Houston is the closest thing to making sense. The WR's likely available arent worth the pick but if I had to choose between Baldwin/Smith I'd take Smith. There are no C's even remotely close to worthy. And don't get me started on T. Maybe Pioli hops the fense and sprints home out of left field with a ???? pick. |
