Torrey Smith Anyone?

I admit to not watching much Terps football. Torrey seems to have the speed we are missing at the WR spot and could be there at 21. I know Hankerson is the guy here everyone is eye balling, but thoughts on this guy. Maybe Jeremy Maclin V2?

I've been high on him for awhile now. He's got speed, size, and smarts. I wouldn't be upset if the Chiefs picked him in the first, and he will be there at 21. He's a late 1st - early 2nd prospect. He's not an early - mid 1st.

Mel had him at the #3 WR before the combine. I can't imagine he hurt his stock much.

What does him being the #3 receiver have to do with his projection?

Well you see, in the draft typically the guys that the experts have ranked higher as certain postions go higher then guys they have ranked lower at the same position.

I think YOUR just trying to be a pain in the ass at this point.

So teams 1-20 are all looking at WR? Got it.

Isn't there a sandbox you can go play in somewhere?

And btw, you still aren't using the corrrect word(s).

LMAO Green and Jones will probably be top 10 picks now. 20 picks is a long way to go for a team not to take the next WR on the board including the Chiefs.

I dont think Jones has ever been considered a top 10 pick. WR isn't exactly a position teams are salivating for.

jd1020 03-01-2011 12:20 PM

You should probably go re-read your other thread regarding Kipers mock draft 2.0.

Where does he have Torrey Smith being drafted?

28.

I think 21 comes before 28, but wait......... Kiper has him as his #3 wide receiver. That can't be right.

I'm still trying to figure out where this is coming from? I said he was #3 going in and helped himself in the draft. I think 2 WR are gone in the top 10 now, and I would be surpised to see #3 taken that late in the 1st.

WTF are you talking about????????????????????????????????????????? Does 30 still double 21?

On 2/23 Mel had him at #3 in the top 5 WR so that would be BEFORE the combine.

Your level of reerun doesn't even register on the scale.

I should have known better than talk about draft positions with someone thinking Kaepernick is going to be drafted before Newton.

I said would not be suprised if he was, but go ahead and build those straw men.

I hate to go Hamas but you might well be the biggest idiot poster I've seen on this board next to Ladarius.

I really don't believe you watched 1 minute of the combine.

Saccopoo 03-01-2011 12:29 PM

Smith didn't look very good running the passing drills. Didn't catch very well and was really choppy in his breaks. Not very fluid. He's going to have to have a lot of coaching at the next level to be effective. He's a project at this point.

Read something about this guy being Heyward Bey 2.0

Same school, same position, same plays that Bey ran. Smith isn't as fast, but close, and gets better separation than Bey, but he's far from polished in terms of being a real receiver. He's a project that will require good coaching. He also has Jimmy Clausen hands. There are a lot of other guys in this draft at the receiver position I'd take over him (in personal preferential order):

1. Austin Pettis
2. Jon Baldwin
3. Leonard Hankerson
4. Vincent Brown

Chiefs have a legit #1 in Bowe. They've got their speed guy in Curtis. They've got their swiss army knife slot guy in McCluster. They need a long, possession type receiver that has great hands and can run precision routes. Smith does not fit the bill.

Relying on Curtis and McCluster?? Fail.

Poll Question:

Which statement is fuller of retart?

Kevin Curtis is our speed WR
Asamoah played LT

LMAO

We have 1 WR and 1 guy who's more of a gadget, might develop into something you can use in the slot. I'd love Pettis, but if we get someone in FA like James Jones...

I used to hope Julio Jones might fall to us, but his worst case is Bengals passing on WR, Green going to Cleveland and Jones going to St Louis. More likely Green to Cinci and Jones to Cleveland.

Titty Meat 03-01-2011 02:23 PM

I wouldn't draft any WR's in the first round unless they were named AJ Green or Julio Jones.

iowachieffan 03-01-2011 02:37 PM

I say we wait till the 3rd or 4th round before we draft a WR

Do you have any idea how fast Curtis is? I'm assuming absolutely no idea whatsoever based on your comment above. The guy can flat out fly.

He timed a 4.35 at the combine and ran a 4.21 at his pro day. He's been productive in the league and wouldn't be a bad guy to have as your stretch the field type of receiver.

And I'm not saying Curtis should be the #2 guy, unlike Chiefnj2 somehow thought. It's kinda why I'd like to have them draft a sure handed receiver that knows how to run a proper route. He should be the fourth receiver, stretch the field guy that has good hands. Jesus, the reading comprehension level around here is abysmal.

Jones? That's great. We need more guys on this team who can't catch the ball. Maybe we should look at Braylon Edwards as well.

Curtis ran a 4.35 11 years and testicular cancer ago...He was signed for the playoffs, thats it. Haley did the same thing in arizona

I don't give a shit if he's from Mars. The guy is fast, smart, has good hands and has had a 1,100 yard season in the NFL. That's more than anyone else on this roster can say.

However, I understand that he's 32 and I'd love to see the Chiefs draft at least one quality receiver in this next draft and preferably two. One early and one late.

Shit, when our other options at the "speed receiver" position is Verran Tucker (4.65 40) and uber-fast McCluster (4.6 40), you tell me who you think our speed guy is/should be/will be if it isn't Curtis at this point.

I'll go with:

We don't have one.

They also have Locker in the top 10 picks where Mayock says he is a 3rd rounder. That's all I need to know about that mock.
