I'm going to Vegas, baby!
OK, just got done booking a trip to Vegas in April. This will be my first time. Actually it will be my first real vacation ever. I have a few weeks to plan and I want to see as much stuff as possible.
Hit me with your recommendations. I want to know what places I need to visit, restaurants can't be missed, sights I should see. Trying to keep a budget so dropping big money on a bunch of shows isn't really my thing. I might gamble a little but I'm not big on gambling. I will be looking for photo spots though. I will be bringing my camera and taking a ton of pictures. So what do you think, Planet? What do I need to see in VEGAS? EDIT: Here's the link to the pics: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...&postcount=106 Thanks everybody! |
Where are you staying?
|
Planet Hollywood is the shit. There is this thing where you can jump off of the stratosphere for like $100 that would be pretty cool too.
|
Go to China Panda for dinner, and if you see a guy there eating alone, give him your cell#.
|
I'm biased being that I work for the largest gaming company, so I'll say Caesar's Palace. (Insert Hangover joke)
|
I was there this week. I saw nothing. Of interest, that is.

Well, if you're not going to gamble much or see shows, I guess there's not much to do other then go to a strip club. |
Quote:
I'll be with my girlfriend, so the strip club is probably a no-go. Those places are usually ripoffs anyway. |
There's nothing to do in Vegas. They pretty much roll up the sidewalks by midnight.

I was kidding about the strip club. I think you will find plenty to do just walking up and down the strip. I love downtown, so I reccomend taking a cab to Fremont for one night and just walk around and enjoy the light show. |
Walk through Caesers palace it is a neat place to see all the stores and stuff inside. I went into planet hollywood it was pretty neat to see different instruments and stuff of musicians.
I am going again in May, and will hit up a few others to check out. Gambling in planet hollywood was expensive so I won't be doing that again. Tables were $25 minimum. |
Seriously, if this is your first trip to Vegas, don't plan anything. It's such a sensory overload, you'll lose track of time and if you have plans to be somewhere at a certain time, it will just cause undo stress. Go to your Cirque show and then just go with the flow the rest of the time.
Oh, and do a search here for Vegas. There are plenty of threads on the subject already. Posted via Mobile Device |
Dam.
The Hoover one. You wouldn't regret adding a day or two to go down to the Grand Canyon. It's about five hours away. |

I seriously know nothing about Vegas, the names of the casinos, that's about it. I don't know which ones are supposed to be the good ones. What's Fremont, is that a street, or an establishment, or what? You may have to use small words with me here. |
Bring comfortable walking shoes. The strip doesn't look big on maps and in pictures, but it's pretty big. You will do a TON of walking.

Woah you are staying at Luxor? That is WAAAAY down at the south end of the strip. It's a long hike to the middle of the strip (near caesar's, etc.) I stayed at the MGM once and that felt like forever, but Luxor is even farther away. I reiterate my above post about taking comfortable shoes.

I don't feel like dropping a ton at the tables. When my old roommate used to go to the boats, I would spend $50 at Pai Gow or video poker and see how long I could milk it. If they had $1 tables or something I'd probably play something awhile for fun. |

Try Fremont Street for some cheaper tables...or maybe some of the older casinos like Imperial Palace or something. Does anyone know if Sahara is closed down yet? |
Hit the Peppermill or Hash House for breakfast.
The Peppermill is right up by the Riviera and the Hash House is inside the Imperial Palace. Also downtown is pretty cool with the Fremont Street Experience. That's all i got. When I go to Vegas all I do is eat breakfast, gamble, and get wasted. Have fun |

That's the thing though, I'd like to see cool things off the beaten path and not the tourist traps with a ton of people. |

You should try to check out that pawn shop from the TV show Pawn Stars. :thumb: |

In all seriousness, if you haven't been there, get up really early one morning and make the drive. It's beyond spectacular. It's almost unbelievable. Even if you only stay two or three hours, you could get the feel and it makes for one long day. |

Don't they other entertainment besides the shows? I thought one of the casinos had a full amusement park or something. |

It's actually going to be Tuesday - Friday. I'm taking off work. |

I thought the aquarium at Mandalay was cool. Cirque (Mystere @ Treasure Island) was awesome as well. Also, you should see how many different porno cards you can collect. You'll know what I mean when you get there. |

Sometime I'd like to drive through Monument Valley and see the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon. That would be a whole 'nother trip though. |

Here is the list of shows with the promotion:
http://www.mgmresorts.com/march11/showinfo/ We're planning on the Beatles one but I might change my mind if someone was raving about another one. |

Monument Valley is way cool, too. You can also take a tour bus, but I think driving is the better way to go: http://coachamerica.com/graylinelasvegas/tour.cfm |
Is the Hoover dam only an hour away? We may be able to squeeze that in.

I was a little worried that someone had misdirected you to an unusually large arroyo. |

There is a bar between the Flamingo and Bally's that is a lot of fun. $4 pitchers and Fat Elvis singing live kicks ass.
Probably the best thing we did besides going to the Hoover Dam. |

It's five hours if you run. But yeah, probably an hour by car regardless of whether donger's driving. |

Oh, and if you end up getting a room with an eastern view, you might be able to see the Janet terminal and planes.

*If you are going with a girl you really care about be sure and take her to the Red R
Rooster *Take your shrooms about 30 minutes before you hit Fremont at night *Those big cups stacked by the slot machines are for big drinks. Grab one and fill it with your favorite alchoholic beverage and you can drink from it wherever you go. |

There used to be a mechanical horse race table on the second floor of Imperial Palace. Quarter bets against odds and the bar was 5 feet away for free beverages. It was fairly quiet, too, which is hard to find in Vegas. Find the $5 football beers (44 ounces) downtown and they will refill them for $3. Catch the light show (at night) on the canopy while you are there. Request a coupon book at the front when you check in. While you walk around Vegas you will constantly save $$$. Oh, NEVER sign up for free ANYTHING. Those bastards will literally grab you while walking by and try to get you to come to a free dinner while they press you for a time-share sale. I have never been burned, but I just about punched a a salesman for grabbing my shoulder. |
Quote:
Wow. Quarter mechanical horse racing on the second floor of the shittiest house in Vegas? Why even go if you are on that much of a budget? |
I'm heading to Vegas April 2nd-4th. I'm going there to throw some money down on the Final 4 games.
|
There is an In-N-Out burger not too far from where you are staying. Everyone should at least try it once if you haven't already, IMO. 4X4 animal style.

First time I went to Vegas 9 years ago we stayed at the IP. Cheap, but it is right in the middle of everything. Besides, you don't sleep when at Vegas, so who gives a shit? Mechanical horse races are pretty fun when you get a good group of 10-12 player going. Bar was 2 seconds away and the waitresses hit us every cycle. Good times. Now that I am older we stay at Paris. |

My comment came out shittier than I meant it to sound. Probably should have kept that one in my head. |
You absolutely have to do Fremont Street. Its sooo much cheaper than the strip. You also HAVE to have a steak dinner at Hugos at the Four Queens (Fremont). Killer steaks and its old school gangsterlike Vegas. Plus Fremont has ziplines,..which is kind of cool. Outside of that, just walk around and have fun..it is sensory overload your first time--BUT FREMONT AND HUGOS IS A MUST!
Take it from a local.:thumb: |

But he's right. Big Elvis is a rather large man, but does a great Elvis impersonation. And Bill's is just a fun place to hang out anyway. Quote:

That would be perfect though. Cheap places to get drinks and cool stuff to see. Gambling is for suckers. I'd rather spend my money on booze. Quote:

Dueling pianos at NYNY.
Water show at Bellagio. Check out the canals at the Venetian. Free show at Treasure Island. Take a half day and tour the dam. |
somebody told me to go to the peppermill.
totally worth it. slammin' breakfast. smokin' hot honey's. and the food was great too. |
Still hammering out our itinerary. Can someone tell me which is the 'real' Hash House? A google search turned up several hits.

Between Fremont and the strip, which is better daytime and which is better at night?

Fremont is the more "shady" side of Vegas now but that's where the "old Vegas" deals still happen. JMO... |
Actually I just realized, our show is at 7PM Thurs. at The Mirage. So it'll have to be Fremont in the morning.
|
Take comfortable shoes, because the signs look close but they are a long way away. Get up early in the mourning and walk up strip, you are on south end. Get up to NYNY and MGM and there is tons of free things to see. Roller coaster on NYNY, cool stuff in MGM ect. Watch for trams because you will get tired of walking. There is a tram way in the back of MGM that goes up to Bally's, Flamingo and many other points northward. If you like Italian food or like me your laddy does go to Batista's Hole in the wall. Very cool place. Its behind Bill's Gambling Hall on a side sreet off of Flamingo Bvd. All the old acts used to hang out there and they have really cool stuff if you are into that sort of thing. You don't have to spend lots of money to have a good time.
|
OK, I think I've got it pretty much planned out:
