"Frat Pack" Movies

Choose up to six of these!

Bugeater 04-09-2011 07:27 PM

I haven't seen any of those movies.

DaFace 04-09-2011 07:30 PM

Anyone who doesn't like Anchorman is no friend of mine.

Rent Old School. Seriously. Watch it. You'll love it.

Won't hurt you to smoke some pot first.

Urc Burry 04-09-2011 07:31 PM

Anchorman
Old School
Tenacious D
Wedding Crashers
Zoolander
The Cable Guy

Heh. One of my friends gave me a DVD of that movie and told me the same thing. I never got around to watching it.

KurtCobain 04-09-2011 07:35 PM

I don't vote in these during the nomination process, but this would be mine.

Old School
Bottle Rocket
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Wedding Crashers
Orange County
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

Thig Lyfe 04-09-2011 07:51 PM

Anchorman and Zoolander are two of my favorite comedies of all time.

Dewey Cox is hilarious and severely under-appreciated.

Tropic Thunder is a tad overrated, but Robert Downey, Jr.'s performance alone makes it a good movie.

Dodgeball is dumb as hell, but still good for a laugh.

Sure-Oz 04-09-2011 07:55 PM

Anchorman is awesome

It might be the perfect lowbrow comedy.

Drwbllz 04-09-2011 08:06 PM

The correct answer is The Royal Tennenbaums. :thumb:

I also picked Anchorman, Zoolander, Dodgeball, Tropic Thunder, and Meet the Parents.

I agree with whoever said Dewey Cox was vastly underrated. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I also like Talladega Nights more than a lot of the nominees (and I hate Nascar).

Saulbadguy 04-09-2011 08:12 PM

All of those movies are terrible.

I pretty much have every line memorized, seen it about 30 times along with 500 days of summer

Really? I never thought it would appeal to me, so I've never seen it. Guess I'll add it to my Netflix queue now. :thumb:

KurtCobain 04-09-2011 10:05 PM

bump for the nite crew vote

Bump 04-09-2011 11:06 PM

I love Old School, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, The Cable Guy, Meet the Parents and Wedding Crashers. A lot of good laughs on this list but those are the top IMO.

ClevelandBronco 04-09-2011 11:31 PM

I ****ed up. It's Meet the Parents, not Meet the Fockers. I didn't even see Meet the Fockers.

TrickyNicky 04-09-2011 11:52 PM

Breakfast of Champions? How does that correlate with the others? What am I missing?

Bump 04-10-2011 12:08 AM

Bottle Rocket - sucked, not even somewhat amusing
The Cable Guy - you either love it or hate it, I loved it.
Bongwater - Ya, I hated this too. I don't get how these early Wilson brothers movies made them famous
Permanent Midnight - never heard of it
Meet the Parents - Loved it, De niro was a great choice
The Royal Tenenbaums - I thought it was just ok
Zoolander - EPIC, cult classic. Loved it
Orange County - I thought it was funny, nothing great though
Old School - EPIC comedy
Starsky & Hutch - pretty terrible
Envy - never heard of it
Saving Silverman - It was okaaaaay
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy - Loved it, Go **** yourself San Diego
Meet the Fockers - A few laughs, but overall pretty bad
Breakfast of Champions - never heard of it
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - no interest in seeing this
Blades of Glory - terrible
Tropic Thunder - Loved this flick, cracked me up
Wedding Crashers - loved it and I'm sure it influenced many to try
School of Rock - I enjoyed it, it was solid
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story - I cracked up the whole time
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - a few funny parts, but overall pretty stupid
Nacho Libre - this was just a big pile of shit

Deberg_1990 04-10-2011 12:17 AM

Wheres the "Brat Pack" movie poll?

Easy 6 04-10-2011 11:23 AM

You forgot Step Brothers.

The more i watch that movie, the more i'm convinced its the best of its kind since Dumb & Dumber. Its one chortle & giggle after another...

Thig Lyfe 04-10-2011 11:44 AM

Step Brothers is a grower. Kind of underwhelming the first time you see it, but it gets funnier every time you re-watch it.

Thig Lyfe 04-10-2011 11:46 AM

Also, shouldn't The Other Guys be on there? That was pretty good, too.

Rain Man 04-10-2011 12:10 PM

I've seen about half a dozen of these movies and none of them wowed me, so I just went with the Kurt Cobain death wish.

KurtCobain 04-10-2011 12:11 PM

Step Brothers along with Talldega Nights I think falls into another category for this, and I forgot The Other Guys, I'll toss it in somewhere.

Stewie 04-10-2011 12:55 PM

I just got done watching Talladega Nights. It cracked me up.

Hi, I'm Ricky Bobby. If you don't chew Big Red, then **** you!

Uh, they all fit way ****ing better than Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums, which have nothing in common with the rest of the field except for the Wilson brothers.

Yeah, the wilson brothers are in the "Frat Pack".

The numbers fit better to put those movies in the Judd Apatow vote.

That makes no sense. Not every movie a Wilson brother is in counts as a "Frat Pack" movie. Those are Wes Anderson movies that happen to have Frat Pack members in them. Would you count Marley & Me as a Frat Pack movie?

"Frat Pack" movies generally have a particular tone and sensibility. Step Brothers, Talladega Nights and The Other Guys are McKay/Ferrell movies (not Apatow movies) and fit that tone. Bottle Rocket and Royal Tenenbaums do not.

Basically, THIS WHOLE POLL IS A LOAD OF BULLSHIT.

suzzer99 04-10-2011 05:36 PM

I concur. Where is St. Elmo's Fire?

Dude, I don't think you've read the other threads. I'm doing a poll of movies people I know would smoke to. This is the nomination process. I need so many in each poll, so I'm sticking them here and there and trying to not overload one poll with too many 'obvious picks'. You guys get a chance to nominate some later. Chill out.

I guess Tenacious D is only for a certain crowd or people...I for one think its hilarious

LMAO. I think Kurt is trying to pack more clearly bannable posts into a 24 hour period than anyone in CP history. This is two I've seen so I'm guessing he's up to 8 or so.

KC_Connection 04-10-2011 11:49 PM

Bottle Rocket and The Royal Tenenbaums are great movies.

All Wes Anderson movies are win.

but not my idea of "frat pack" movies.

Are you thinking of the Matt Damon, Ryan Phillippe and DiCaprio clique as the frat pack? I've heard it for both groups.

sedated 04-11-2011 03:59 PM

I've never heard the term Frat Pack before now.

And I hate Wes Anderson movies.

sedated 04-11-2011 04:00 PM

Why is Meet the Fockers on the list but not Meet the Parents?

And where is There's Something About Mary?

KurtCobain 04-11-2011 04:01 PM

Meet the parents is up there but no Somethings about Mary. It'll be along.

1. Look again.

2. That's Farrelly Brothers, not Frat Pack. Not every Ben Stiller movie is a Frat Pack movie.

KurtCobain 04-11-2011 04:09 PM

Sportsracer, if I gave you a doobie and a blockbuster card, what movie would you rent?

dilligaf 04-11-2011 06:39 PM

Is that the Breakfast of Champions with Bruce Willis? That is the worst movie ever made. Filmed in the town that I live at a car dealership that I used to work at. A lot of the extras were people that I know. But seriously a terrible movie.
