My best guess at a 1st Round Mock
Bring it, you ****s.
I predict a very heavy run on QB's in the first round this year, as there are so many teams with needs, and even though there are 3 "FA" QB's available (VY, DM, KC-via trade) no one can rely on FA pick ups until this lockout ends. Pretty risky. Even the teams who do pick up those FA's will still need QBOTF's. It's impossible to guess all the trades, but I went with two. Carolina: CAM NEWTON Denver: MARCEL DAREUS Buffalo: VON MILLER Cincinnati: BLAINE GABBERT Arizona: CHRISTIAN PONDER Cleveland: A.J. GREEN San Francisco: PATRICK PETERSON Tennessee: NICK FAIRLEY Dallas: TYRON SMITH Washington: JULIO JONES Houston: PRINCE AMUKAMARA Minnesota: DA'QUAN BOWERS Detroit: NATE SOLDER St. Louis: COREY LIUGET Miami: MARK INGRAM Jacksonville: CAMERON JORDAN New England: J.J. WATT San Diego: RYAN KERRIGAN New York Giants: MIKE POUNCEY Tampa Bay: AKEEM AYERS Kansas City: MOHAMMAD WILKERSON Indianapolis: ANTHONY CASTONOZO Philadelphia: JIMMY SMITH New Orleans: CAMERON HEYWARD Seattle: JAKE LOCKER Baltimore: AARON WILLIAMS Atlanta: PHIL TAYLOR **Buffalo (via NE): TRADES UP; BUFFALO SELECTS RYAN MALLETT Chicago: GABE CARIMI New York Jets: JUSTIN HOUSTON Pittsburgh: DANNY WATKINS **Washington (via GB): TRADES UP; WASHINGTON SELECTS ANDY DALTON |

Cameron Jordan got picked twice and Ponder went fifth overall. I can't even insult stupidity like that.

And I think Ponder will jump like a Mo****a |
I'd like the Bolts to pick Cam Jordan twice just to make sure they got him. BTW - Arizona won't be taking a QB unless they fire their HC prior to the draft.

- Ponders' injury history will keep him out of the first round
- If Miami doesn't trade out of 16 they won't pick Ingram (too high) - The Giants have Snee at guard. I don't see them taking a guard in the first while he's on the roster. I have many other opinions but we'll both be wrong if I keep going. This is a hard Draft to predict. Nice try though... |

He is 315, and thats larger than a lot of the NT prospects. He also plays very, very fast, has great hand work and style, and gets penetration. Furthermore, he can adjust and make the tackle in the backfield rather than letting the RB fly by him. I think he would fit well with Pioli's obvious desire to increase team speed, and he would help Tamba (and Studebaker) a ton by penetrating from the center. I think that one pick increases our sack total by 10. Not necessarily caused by him directly, but indirectly. Also, with the additional pressure, we don't have to rely so heavily on blitzes from the secondary, even though Berry is murderous on those. |
What just happened? Mocks like this make my head hurt

I tried to go with some non-traditional picks, and provided explanation. Put yours up, HR! |
Why oh why does every single trade scenario always involve New England? That should be made a rule in the new CBA agreement... "No more ******* trades where New England winds up with multiple 1st rounders in future years".

Explanation on why I have a lot of QB's, and explanation on why I went with two random ass trades: Quote:

AZ is very desperate at QB. They are also in great shape at WR, so the big 2 WR's don't make sense. They could go defense here, sure. It would maybe even be the smart move. But I think they want a QB more than they are letting on. Also factor in, a mock is a complete guess anyways. With the top two QB's gone, they are left with Mallett, Dalton, Kaepernick, and Ponder. Ponder has been said to be among the most pro-ready WCO QB prospects, and Arizona runs the WCO. He has impressed throughout the offseason and his stock has gradually risen. Earlier this week, Schefter speculated that as many as 5 QB's would go in the first. They don't go with Mallett because he's a statue and blows coke; They don't go with Dalton because he's a ginger; and they don't go with Kaepernick because they like Ponder more. Never claimed to be an expert, this is just a humble man's attempt at a mock. Each and every year I am shocked at certain picks, why should this year be any different? Ted Ginn, Jr. over Quinn? Tyson Jackson 3rd Overall? Derrick Johnson dropping down the board? Jimmy Claussen to the 3rd? Jordy Nelson in the 2nd? I am always shocked, so I wanted to reflect something shocking in my picks. So there it is. |
Jimmy Clausen was drafted in the 2nd round....not the 3rd.

Overview
Wilkerson was coveted as a football and basketball prospect coming out of high school. He looks like a NFL defensive tackle but moves like the power forward who helped his AAU team to the national tournament. After one year at Hargrave Military Academy, Temple coaches decided to take advantage of his maturity to play him in 11 games in 2008 (13 tackles, 2.5 for loss, sack, four pass breakups). He started every game over the next two years, looking strong as a true sophomore (61 tackles, 10.5 for loss, seven sacks, four PBU, forced fumble, blocked kick) and even better as a first-team All-MAC pick in 2010 (70 tackles, 13 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 3 PBU, 2 forced fumbles). Wilkerson's surprising agility intrigues scouts. He'll need to learn to use his hands to be effective at the next level and must build strength in his first couple of NFL seasons, but has the potential to grow into a prototypical 3-4 defensive end or 4-3 tackle. He has been a steady riser during the pre-draft process, and could sneak into the bottom third of the first round. Analysis Pass rush: Overwhelms college tackles with size and strength, then chases down quarterbacks with his length and nimble feet. Lacks a quick first step, but flashes a swim move and closing speed to the passer. Feels cut blocks, keeps his hands involved and watches for the quick throw in his direction. Must improve his hand usage to consistently get off blocks inside. Eats up multiple blockers on inside twists to free up other defensive linemen. Effective bull-rushing college tackles when coming from outside the tackle, but rarely pushes back interior linemen. Not sudden or flexible enough to get the corner. Run defense: Agile five-technique who lines up on either side of the formation. Patient and keeps his eyes in the backfield to contain; very solid in his outside assignment. Comes off outside path or double teams inside to spin/shed, catching back running through the hole. Uses shoulder to hold off blockers while slanting into the backfield. Not exceptional change-of-direction agility but his length allows him to get a hand on ballcarriers trying to get through the hole. Not a dominating interior player despite his size. NFL blockers will win the leverage battle until he gets stronger and more physical inside. Explosion: Has the potential to be very explosive off the snap, but comes off a bit slow and must use his strength to pop into the chest of blockers. Can utilize his strength and length to hit hard and squeeze the football from a ballcarrier. Strength: Flashes strong hands, playing with leverage, and the ability to push off linemen to make tackles. Gets stood up at the line too often instead of bull-rushing his man backward or pushing his way through the double-team. Tackling: Tall, thick frame and long arms make him difficult to avoid in tight quarters and to shed once latched on. Gets a lot of tackles with hustle, keeps his feet moving when chasing from behind. Lacks superior straight-line speed but gives excellent effort to the sideline. Must drop his hips to bring down more elusive pro ballcarriers. Intangibles: Plays a lot of snaps given his size but gives good effort throughout the game. Attended Hargrave Military Academy. Temple's defensive MVP in 2010. No known character issues. --Chad Reuter |

I like your call on CHRISTIAN PONDER. Don't agree with it, but like it because that's one of the things that makes the Draft fun.
BTW, do you really think Aldon Smith falls all the way out of the first round ? |
Quote:
Honestly? I don't think he will fall out of the first round. There's just too many damned variables to take into account (team needs, etc.), and he slipped through the cracks on this one. |

how would Aldon Smith fall out of the first round exactly let alone be lucky to have him fall to KC at 21 and they would be stupid not to take him.
|
The fact that New England is allowed to draft in the first round this year, (they weren't busted for cheating yet), really screws things up in terms of predictions.
We all know they'll rape some team that has a stiffy for a guy who drops and will end up trading for an extra first next year and a nice 2nd or 3rd this year. My question is... Since the lockout is in effect and no players can be traded, is there anything barring teams from trading for "Future Considerations"? For example: Arizona wants to trade their 1st rounder for Philly's second rounder plus future considerations, (Kolb). I know this type of honor system is alive and well in the NHL but would it fly in the NFL under these circumstances? |

I like that mock, very reasonable. I noticed you have Pouncey slipping out of the first? |
Yea, I used the Drafttek.com website and it's draft simulator. If there is someone I like or think there is a need that is picked after The Chiefs pick I can lock that player out. The Sim had Aldon Smith dropping to New Orleans I think originally at 23 so I locked him out as a first round pick for the Chiefs at 21
Same thing happened at round 2 where Dalton was taken by Seattle or something about 2 to 3 slots down. A lot of the QB's were gone by then and they assigned value to all those picks, Dalton wasn't that bad of a loss on value and there wasn't any other real choices there, so I locked him out. Everything else is done by the simulator as far as picks. As far as your question about Pouncy, yea the sim had him going in the early second round. No way to go up and get him and it was a value loss to do it so I didn't. |
