RIP Macho Man Randy Savage

Quote:

Macho Man Randy Savage -- one of the most famous wrestlers of all-time -- died today in a car accident in Tampa, Florida ... TMZ has learned.

TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 10 AM ... and lost control of his vehicle.

Earlier this month, Savage celebrated his 1-year anniversary with his new wife Lynn.

Savage was 58.

Macho Man began wrestling in the WWF in 1985 and became a superstar with his trademark catchphrase "Ooooooh Yeaahhhhh."

I met the guy at a Bob Evans in St Petersburg, FL about 10 years ago. He seemed like a nice guy but he was definitely roided out.

As a side note, his wife Lynn just inherited a lot of money. I suspect foul play may be involved....

They are for me. When it comes to Pro wrestling, two time periods stick out in my head. That era, and the era of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Kane, etc.

I was at Wrestlemania 7 when he and the Warrior fought in a career ending match.

Dude was just a fantastic performer that will be missed.

At least he got to see the Chiefs make the playoffs last year.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-20-2011 01:39 PM

Of all the "top guys" in the 1980s WWF, Savage was the most talented all around.

The dude was a top-level talent in the ring, and his character was flexible. He could play a face or a heel equally well, his move set translated to either face or heel.

Of Vince's two biggest "stars" of that era, Savage got the best match out of both of them:

Hogan at WM V and Warrior at WM VII, and that's not mentioning the fact that he had the iconic match of the era at WM III.

He was a meticulous planner in the ring, very athletic, and he was great on the mic. The guy really was the total package.

It's a damn shame he ****ed Stephanie McMahon and Vince held a grudge.

Bump 05-20-2011 01:48 PM

It's the greatest possibly apocryphal pro wrestling rumor out there. You aren't going to get absolute confirmation.
