Too hot summers or too cold winters?
Let's take these to extreme, since those of us in the Midwest have experienced each. Which do you prefer? I've just seen people complain about both, so I thought I would list what's bad about each to see which people would tolerate better.
Summer: Heat waves, dead grass, sweating through your shirt, humidity, sunburns, hot pools, too-hot-to-touch steering wheels Winter: Ice storms, more layers of clothes, higher utility bills, slick roads, snow drifts, chilled-to-the-bone temperatures, cabin fever I've heard people complain about each (or a few people *cough*Bugeater*cough* complain about both). Which is the lesser of the two evils? Poll forthcoming.... |
In San Diego it gets down to the 40's during the winter, and technically it doesn't get hot here until late August/September so I don't know if that counts as summer.
I choose winter. |
What are you doing to me LUV?

winter. every friggin time. I hate heat.

I used to prefer winter, due to the "you can always put more layers on" mentality. However, there's so much more you can do in the summer, and sweat never killed anyone (heat, of course, but not sweat). Even if the pool is difficult to keep cool, no matter if it gets really warm, it's cooler than it is outside.
|
Summer....not even a contest for me. No matter how hot, you can always leave your house and theres more stuff to do during the Summer.

I'm almost always ready for winter to end, but never ready for summer to end.

I'll take the triple digits we've had 8 days in a row until today over the 18 inches of snow we got one day/night last winter that forced me to sleep on the couch at work. Extremes aren't desirable in either but I'll take summer every time.
|
Heat, F the cold, and by cold I mean anything under 65.
|
**** them both.

Not to mention going to work and getting off when it's dark out sucks. |
Between living here in KC and in Minneapolis, I have experienced both. I chose Summer. Extreme heat like we have had sucks, but nothing sucks as bad as having six feet of snow on the ground and being stuck with nothing to do, and no way to go anywhere. Plus shoveling snow sucks ass.
|
I miss harsh winters. I choose winter, for sure. I've always liked winter more than summer. **** humidity, **** sweating, **** stifling heat.

I picked winter. I don't mind the cold, though I DO mind ice. We typically don't get ice around here much, so winter's generally pretty bearable.
Sweating my ass off sucks. |
Theres nothing to shovel when it's hot out and people still go out at night.
Summer |
Too hot summers or too cold winters don't phase me a bit. It's easy to go inside to heat up or cool down. I can live with either extremes.
|
I will go with Summer, waterslides, rollercoasters, grilling, swimming, camping, boating, a;.ll sorts of things.
|
Lets see, chicks in bikinis. Oh yeah, and they're tan. Gee, that's a tough one.

I would pick winter if it didn't get below 0 degrees and snow all the time. It's really really close though.
|
I hate the summer. It's sooo hot.
But **** snow. |

Winter.....Hunting season and no yard work=GREAT!

When I'm talking about summer, I'm talking about July and August. It goes kind of something like this. Just about every day in July and August sucks because it's 90+. Most days in the winter I don't mind, if it's a high of 42 and there is no snow falling. I'd pick that day..but then there are those days that it's -10 and it snows a foot. Those are much worse, so that puts summer just barely over winter for me.
|
Looks like a pretty clear consensus.

Summer for me. I hate heat, anything above 90 degrees. But Winter is just THAT bad. I hate being outside, at least during Summer there's stuff to do outside.
|
Winter
|
I choose winter. You can always put more clothes on if you're cold. When you're hot, you can only get so naked and you're still ****ing hot.
Yes, winter has deep snow and ice. And summer has flooding rains, killer lightning, and shitloads of bugs, and skin cancer from the sun. On the other hand, winter doesn't have scantily-clad chicks. |
I find myself wondering if summer would be winning handily if we weren't right in the middle of a nice long heat wave. I'm surprised so many people are choosing winter with all it's cold and crappy snow/ice and early darkness and dangerous driving conditions and gray days and lack of exposed female flesh.

Winter. Ice-cold weather with prolonged ice and snow and slick roads don't bother me. I can always wear more clothing, and I'm not a jackass on the road.
I cant strip naked or pour ice water on my head all the time. Excessively hot summers suck. |
Citing chicks in bikinis as a justification for voting for too-hot summers is silly. They will still be there whether its kind of hot, hot, or too hot.
Hell, I'd argue that if its too hot, they will opt to stay inside where the air conditioning is, so a vote for too-hot summer is probably a vote for fewer hot chicks in bikinis. |
As long as I don't have to shovel "hot" I'll take it.
|
Summer. At least when the sun goes down you can go outside and enjoy it somewhat.

I live on the beach. So if it's too hot, I know what to do and that is jump into the ocean or crank the a/c. I use to live in "too cold winters".......... hated it. Because it's miserable and never ends.
|
I've never understood people in the summer who want to sit outside, have deck parties, grill out and crap like that in 95+ weather. Why? Go inside. The spring and fall is the time to do that sh*T
|
I live in AZ
so summer is extremely nasty but tonight got hit with a great monsoon lightning and rain was nasty humid all day hti 100 for months inna row winters kick ass I hate driving on ice but I really miss the season mostly spring and fall live in colorado springs for a year wasn't that cold but jebus the fall was magnificent and summer kicked ass |
Well its been 75 degrees at my house the last few weeks. I guess I can't complain about summer.
Its also Mid 60's in the winter. So I guess I dislike winter more, due to the extreme conditions. |
Snow and subzero temps grind my gears, but these things tip my scale into Winters favor:
Sunburn is worse than numb digits. My AC unit runs worse than my radiator. Yard work is worse than shoveling snow. Needing to shower twice in a day to feel clean... While I do prefer women's summer dress, I prefer my winter attire. I tend to get more "play" in the winter. Winter snuggling is better than peeling sticky bodies apart. NFL playoffs and NCAA BB and FB championships are better than all other sporting events. Staying inside the bar b/c it's 90F@10pm is worse than stepping out to smoke@10F No bugs is better than mosquitoes, spiders, flies, bees, beetles, and earwigs. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years are better than Memorial Day, The 4th, Labor Day |
If we're talking pure hot and cold, I might take winter. But when you figure in snow and ice, Summer is my clear winner.

Summer, no contest. Hot summers are what swimming pools are for. Winter is miserable and depressing.
After living in the South for a few years, I don't think I could go back to a Midwest winter. |
Colder winter.
I can always put more clothes on. There's only so much one can take off... |

If I had to choose between spending a late summer 100 degree day in the sun at Arrowhead and say, the playoff game vs the Ravens, I'd vote for winter. I can deal with the cold better than sitting in that kind of heat for hours and then dealing with the sunburn for 4 more days.
Day-to-day though, I'll take summer. In the morning, I'd rather walk out to 80 and humid than cold and bitter. In the afternoon/evening, I'd rather walk out into the heat and have 4 more hours of daylight than the bitter cold darkness. I'd rather sit in a hot car, open the windows and wait a couple minutes for the A/C than spend a few minutes scraping, a few more minutes waiting for the engine to warm up, then a few more waiting for the car to warm up. I'd rather deal with idiots in the heat than idiots on ice. |

I'll take a hot summer over winter any day. Despite the heat, I can still do things outside. In the winter, I tend to hibernate. I hate cold weather.

**** heat 4321
**** humidity 4321 **** THIS WRETCHED SHIT SUCKING SUMMER 4321 While I'd prefer 70 and sunny, if I have to choose an extreme, I'll take winter. |
I can't stand winter, primarily for the reasons that have already been stated; short days, dark at 3pm, cold, miserable, ice, snow, dead vegatation etc.
I'll take summer, even at its' hottest, over winter. we just returned from camping where it was a heat index of about 105 and 70% humidity etc.. |
I like winter. I like it getting dark early. I hate daylight savings time.

I move that both extreme heat and cold be damned all to hell and we start going from spring to fall and back again over and over. That'll teach those other stupid seasons.

I'll say that I prefer cold winter's for now but ask me again in February....

Winter. When I get too hot I want to go out and kill something.

I'll take Summer any day over winter. I fucking hate winter. :cuss:
