NFL Insider:"This will be Todd's last year, and I think he knows it"

The following quotes are from NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

"(Chiefs head coach) Todd Haley knows his team stinks, that he is going to get blamed and it probably is his fault. He definitely has done nothing to help the offense, especially at the receiver position. It's not difficult for anyone to connect the dots. Look at the guys they have brought in (during Haley's tenure) — Jerheme Urban, Terrance Copper, Steve Breaston, Bobby Wade — they all played for Todd at Arizona, Dallas or Chicago. (Rookie first-round pick Jonathan) Baldwin is already in trouble. You look at the offense as a whole. They have no center; the receivers are not that good; (Tony) Moeaki is hurt again, the right tackle (Barry Richardson) cannot block speed. Subtract Charlie Weis — how does the offense get any better? This will be Todd's last year, and I think he knows it."

Though the article is garbage... there is a gem in the comments though.

Out of everything on that page, that comment has the most worthwhile info.

Yeah, Because it's our WR's fault that the offense stinks....

lcarus 08-29-2011 10:10 AM

Yeah we'll just ignore what he's done with Bowe. No need to remember that. Let's just look at Urban, Copper, Breaston (who hasn't even played here yet), and Bobby ****ing Wade. Baldwin's a rookie and the season hasn't even started. Who knows what his career will be like. Let's also forget that Matt ****ing Cassel had a pretty good year overall last season, and we had the NFL's best rushing offense. He took a heap of a mess left over from the NFL's worst ever head coach and a GM whose glory days were in the early 90s, and we're now a young talented team with a bright future. Creampuff schedule or not.

I've never been a Haley fan, and I believe last year he got the benefit of the weakest schedule in the league, no injuries and several players having career/last gasp years. The offense this season looks absolutely befuddled, and the defense is tame. These guys looked impotent against Tampa and St Louis, for god's sake.

Haley's problem is a total lack of respect of the need for quality linemen, demonstrated by the release of Brian Waters. I think Brian Schottenheimer and his respect for the accomplishments of Ferguson and Mangold, and the time they gave young Sanchez to learn the game, is a quality the Chiefs could use right now. People can say what they will, but 9 playoff appearance in 11 seasons looks really good right now, and this team just might need another Schottenheimer to get there.

Hootie 08-29-2011 10:54 AM

rocknrolla 08-29-2011 11:09 AM

What horse shit. We had the best turn around in franchise history. And we are not winning in preseason. Whoopie dee f***ing dooo. The season hasn't even started.

Blick 08-29-2011 11:23 AM

I think losing Weis may hurt us more than we think. He knew Cassel's limitations and game planned and called plays accordingly.

Haley is more stubborn and aggressive, and he's going to expect Cassel to take the next step, so he's not going to hold anything back.

Blocking will be hurt by this as well. Weis did a good job calling quicker passing plays, so we didn't have to worry about pass protection as much.

Haley likes deeper, slower developing routes like digs and deep crossing routes. Like in the Rams game for instance, we came out with play action on the first 2 plays, and tried to go downfield...with bad results. Cassel couldn't hit Bowe in time, and pass protection broke down.

The offense could get off to a slow start.

Every coach in the league pretty much knows this could be their last year. This is a win now league these days. I think Haley getting this team to the playoffs last years keeps him alive unless we go to 4-12 or worse. Pretty clearly things are not looking good right now, but I've never heard of a coach fired for looking like crap in preseason. I heard people calling for Raheem Morris' job during his first season there. I think he changed a few minds there.

I would say Cassel is the person that is on the hotseat for his job. Despite a solid year, his play in the playoffs and big games left something to be desired. He needs to show he is more than a game manager.

I think it was. He was surprised the girl would even accuse him of such a base act, after all, he's the Chief's head coach.. he would never do something like that. Unfortunately, when he said "Don't you know who I am? I'm Todd Haley," this only seemed to add to the confusion.

thanks
glad it turned out to not involve Haley

If you like the conspiracy theory stuff... Haley was out with his wife, and friends from out of town.., pulled the ninja finger-bang on a girl the next table over, and started the whole mess. It's a huge cover-up.

Oh yeah, that's the thing I saw on Twitter that I ignored because it was from PFW. Now I remember.

PFW isn't a bad sight to go check out once in awhile. Not a daily reader IMO.

Their audibles and the way we hear it are entertaining quotes from anonomous sources. More funny than anything less than half the time true. They used to have other GM's trashing most of the moves Carl Peterslap made and calling Gunther's Defense a dinasour scheme. They are pretty good around draft time with a different perspective too.

Todd better not be making distractions or Romeo will sit on him while Emmitt Thomas gives him a rusty hook.

It's hard for me to remember a site unless they are pretty consistent. I've just seen a LOT of bullshit come out of PFW.

yeah for the news stories i don't recall them being very accurate at all. I like their free agency preview and draft time they even rate/list the undrafted players so you can at least get an idea on Height, weight, and speed of the scrubs.
