What music do you own that you're most ashamed of?
Everyone has guilty pleasures on their ipod, computer, or whatever. I'd have to say I'm totally ashamed I have Ace of Base on my ipod.....and I like it.
|
The Sundays.
|
I have a few Carpenters and ABBA songs on mine.
(hands over man card) |
The music I stole using KAZAA. All of it.
|

About six months ago I was going through the old vinyl albums I own. For the life of me I don't know why I bought about 1/4 of them.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

Like someone earlier said, I have all the music from when I was in high school and college on my Ipod/ipad because it fits on there. So there's stuff anywhere from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (Christmas music) to Nsync (yeah, I know) to ABBA (dancing queen is the $%&# :) )
|
Oh, and Musical Youth.
|
Loverboy
|
That is true about the names of the songs and artists from KAZAA. The thing I am not ashamed of is the Pron I got from there, those slores do not deserve a .01 of my $$.
|
I've got some Bette Midler on my phone and not ashamed to say it. That chick can belt.
|
Barry Manilow
Gordon Lightfoot John Denver Glen Campbell Gilbert O'Sullivan Climax Blues Band Terry Jacks Elton John Michael Jackson Tons of 80's pop and hair bands Miley Cyrus Lady Gaga etc etc.... But I'm not ashamed of any of it. I have widely varying musical tastes and a lot of different music moods. I'll literally listen to Gaga's "Bad Romance" and follow it with Barry Manilows "Looks Like We Made It" to Marilyn Mansons "The Fight Song" to Jamey Johnsons "High Cost Of Livin" to Glen Campbells "Gentle On My Mind" to Suzanne Vegas "Luka" etc etc. |

Back in the grunge days, i didnt do too much bragging about my love of hair metal, but i've come full circle on that... any music i like, i'll proudly say it these days.
Used to hide my affinity for old Duran Duran too, but **** that, thats the pussy gettingest music of all time. |
Nothing I'm outright embarassed by, but a little sheepish to have five [5!] Tori Amos albums, and three Poi Dog Pondering.
EDIT: Found my Ugly Kid Joe CD, color me embarassed. OTOH, I have 3 400 disc carousels and still don't have all my CDs in the loop, somewhere around 1400 CDs total. |
Looking at the shelf, I see Natalie Merchant's "Tigerlily".

Cant help it. I like ABBA & Blondie
<iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4ohr4P8E_io" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The English version, with completely different lyrics by Ulvaeus, presents a vision of nostalgia for two veterans reminiscing in old age about a lost battle that they participated in during their younger days fighting under Emiliano Zapata in a battle of the Mexican revolution of 1910 |

Should I be more embarrassed by Katy Perry or Limp Bizkit? I'm not really embarrassed by any of the music I have, but there are plenty of others that I could get ridiculed for where those came from.
Actually, my most embarrassing music purchase ever was the first LP from the Sugarcubes back in the 1980s (Bjork's breakout band from Iceland). I fell for the hype and it sucked. I don't think I have it anymore though. Still not a Bjork fan at all. |
I'll raise you two Ke$ha albums! That's my guilty pleasure. I don't take her music seriously, but she's always fun to listen to and her lyrics make me laugh.
My daughter put all kinds of embarrassing music on my iPod. I swear that Taylor Swift album is not mine! Although, I can't stand Swift's music she has this song called My Greatest Day, or something like that, that practically brings me to tears every tears every time I hear it. Ha! That song isn't allowed to be played in my presence- that's just too embarrassing for me. |
Music I own that I'm not ashamed of, but others might think I should be:
Paula Abdul Pebbles Debbie Gibson Janet Jackson (Rhythm Nation) Yes, I'm stuck in the late 80's. |

Probably the least cool music on my ipod would be Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and the BeeGees' "I Started A Joke". They're good songs, though. |
I remember the shame my brother brought me when he bought a cassete tape of Tears for Fears. The horror of humanity when that thing came out JHC!
|
Tears for Fears is no shame.
|
I have a couple of various artist records with Wham on them. Wake me up before you go go.

BTW, do you watch the TV show "Psych"? I watch it via Netflix so I'm a couple of seasons behind, but I recently watched an episode that had Curt Smith as a guest star playing himself (one of the two main guys in Tears for Fears) and he did a pretty good/humorous job. |
About seven years ago I was flying back to the East Coast and I had a layover in Chicago. This really annoyed me as I had asked the travel agent for a more Southerly route and she just didn't get it done. And yet this was a service I had paid for. Bitter disappointment...but I digress. I had some time to kill. Funny how certain phrases pop into mind. Time to kill. It kept rolling over and over in my mind as I slipped the serrated pocket knife from my boot, passing through the terminal exit.
I hailed a cab, told the cabbie I wanted to get something to eat so I'd have time to find just the right person. It had to be a loner. Someone that wouldn't be missed. They give off a vibe. They have a certain defeated aura. They know that, in the grand scheme of things, they are utterly unimportant. No close relatives to call them at odd hours. No friends other than the casual acquaintances that one collects, fellow flotsam and jetsam heaved forward by a roiling city. Gathered onto an asphalt coastline at the end of every dark day. We circled a block, nameless streets gliding past the window. I spotted my target as she rounded into view. Shabby overcoat partially concealing a polyester house dress. Faded sneakers, the original color unknown. Now drab like the streets they caressed. Dirty dishwater hair hanging in a mop across a furrowed brow. Expressionless face, dead eyes staring at nothing as she found the curb. Good fortune shined upon me as I noticed the deli behind her, reflecting her soulless husk in the grand front window. Shadow of a shadow, already a ghost. I paid the cabbie and he left. Chasing another fair, I was already forgotten. I followed behind her and matched her pace. I took note of her gait, her size. Her movements, subtle as they were. With each step I could see where my knife would dip and lunge. Once to the throat for silence. Again to her tired bosom for the shock of pain to render her powerless. A slash at the leg to keep her still. All these I saw as a vision while she picked her way from crack to crack along the sidewalk. Finally she turned towards an alley. Dark and empty, reeking of urine and vomit, a black cave in the metropolis. Portal to another world. Three quick strokes and she was down. My blade like that of a surgeon. Flesh fell away from bone as I dug through her body in a dervish, the alleyway debris swallowing a river of blood as she lay choking and struggling for breath. It wasn't enough. I had to reach into her body and feel her bones break beneath my fingers. Her gurgled screams now audible mixing with that crack of the splintered bone, sweet music. Like a symphony of human expression. The last light of life leaving her corpse. Then it was over and I was empty. Spent. As I walked away a small reflection caught my eye. Not a reflection, a bit of light. It was her cell phone. She had tried to call for help. A bloody thumbprint on the "9" key remained. And something else. She had activated the recording device feature. I stopped and listened, playing it back. She had recorded it. Her last moments. The symphony would live on. Now I could recall her struggle at whim for my amusement. Again the bones cracking and the gurgling scream. Heaven. I still have this recording. Shame? I have a feeling like shame when I listen to it. |
No, wait. I meant to say Tom Jones. I have a three CD Tom Jones collection.
