Chan Gailey

he may not be sexy, but give the guy some credit...

his team was prepared, creative without being stupid, and kind of fun to watch.
just like the old "thiggy" days.

He's the best Chicken Salad Chef Buffalo has had in some time.

This sounds sick, but that was a positive that came out of the game Sunday. Chan showed the Chiefs that they made a mistake by putting clown shoes on the entire organization.

I've always thought Chan got a raw deal here. Christ, he made Tyler Thigpen look like a NFL QB.

To get dumped the week before the season started was a low-rent move, and he got his revenge Sunday.

I'd be curious to see what he could do in a place with more stability than Buffalo.

mcaj22 09-14-2011 10:07 PM

firing chan was one of the many mistakes.

chan has always had a decent offensive scheme, that can at least be competitive and move the ball with any team no matter how shitty the talent he has to work with.

can you imagine Chan's offense with the Chiefs skill players today? Bowe would look like a god.

He might have had us running a spread offense a lot more than we should, but thats the only time Cassel looks good, anyway.

so why didnt the Chiefs know what was coming on Sunday?

or even more embarrassing, they did know and still couldnt stop it.

like someone said Chans offense wont be some Al Saunders masterpiece, but it will beat mediocre unprepared shit teams and it will be competitive against the good teams, and thats with having a team that has very little talent like the Bills.

He did the same here when he had shit players to work with when he made Thigpen run wild

this doesn't seem hard. Run. Pass. depending on the down, circumstances etc. That could be said for the entire league. Anyone paying attention that knows anything about anything could get at least 50%.

whether they surprised anyone or not isn't the issue. The issue is: they executed.
All. Freaking. Day.
And that says more about the Head Coach than the play caller.

BigRock 09-15-2011 01:50 AM

What are some of you people smoking?

Chan Gailey came to KC and his brilliant offense averaged about 11 points a game for the first half of the season, and those points were probably only scored because his play calls bored the defense to sleep. Oh, and PS, by the way, it also got the first two quarterbacks on the depth chart killed.

Then he had to switch to the system Tyler Thigpen ran in college because it's literally the only thing Thigpen could handle. And it was wacky and fun, if you don't mind that it only won us a single game. Meanwhile, Gailey actually runs a pro offense now and Thigpen looks like shit. He was in the game for half the fourth quarter on Sunday and they didn't let him throw a single pass. They trust Brad Smith more than that skeleton ****er.

Gailey's offense in Buffalo last year was 28th in scoring. 28th! Yeah, he put something on they ass on Sunday. Good for him. But the way they coached and played, Herm Edwards and Dick Curl could have walked in here and had a team put up 30.

For ****'s sake. When Cassel gets sacked 8 times on Sunday, are there going to be people going "WHY DID THEY LET GUNTHER GO"?

CoMoChief 09-15-2011 04:54 AM

Gailey actually was a solid coordinator. Still puzzled as to why Haley waited til the reg season to fire him cuz his own ego got in the way of this team. Just like what nick wright said.....these people at 1 arrowheaddrive think they're smarter than everyone.

MahiMike 09-15-2011 06:32 AM

Dude knows how to scheme. Wish he was still here. Think what Cassel 'might' have become with a consistent OC.

We barely beat them at home last year.... and we had a ton more talent.

Chan is a good coach. I don't think he is head coach material, but I think he is a very good offensive coordinator.

No, because everywhere Gunther has coached as a DC with the exception of a couple of years, he has sucked horribly.

Everywhere Gailey has coached with the exception of a couple of years he has been a very solid OC.

Chiefnj2 09-15-2011 07:22 AM

The Bills may not win another game all year (actually they'll probably beat the Raiders who aren't a good east coast travel team), but for one week he took a QB that is considered on par with Cassel, and he took a bunch of very late round/UDFA/waived receivers and TE's and put up some big points on the road in a hostile environment. I'm still waiting for Todd to develop someone other than Bowe (who was a hell of a receiver before Todd even arrived).

Yes, that's it exactly. I never ripped Gailey while he was here.

You're just being ignorant. You know full well that Gailey many, many times has been coaching in situations where he had next to no talent to work with and yet still manufactured decent offenses.

On the other hand, Gunther has been with teams where he he practically got to hand-pick his own players and yet still failed miserably.

You're making yourself look like a fool . Just stop it.

Chiefnj2 09-15-2011 08:35 AM

This franchise doesn't like guys who can put together decent offenses like Gailey or Saunders, but is okay with promoting people like Gunther and hiring people like Herm. Must be the water.

Do you think the offense would be further along today if Gailey was in his 3rd season in KC, or where the team is now going from Haley to Weis to Muir/Haley?

I'm being ignorant? You took an obviously-not-serious question I posed about people pining for Gun and tried to start a Gunther vs. Gailey debate.

You like Gailey. Great. Disagree with something other than the joke I made.

Was I wrong about Gailey's offense doing jack when he first came here? Was I wrong that his predictable, boring offense, with its many 3rd and 10s, got two quarterbacks hurt? Was I wrong that he only changed when he was forced to out of necessity? Was I wrong that the change he made was so useless long-term that he (and everyone else in a copycat league) doesn't even use it now? Was I wrong that his offense sucked in Buffalo last year?

I don't think I was wrong about any of those things. But if it makes you feel better, I'll stipulate that I'd rather have Gailey here than Gunther. I'd also rather have the clap than AIDS, but if I had the choice, I'd take neither.

no love 09-15-2011 08:59 AM

i don't think Gailey is one that got away. I think Gunther's defense will be as good as Suh will be. No one longs for his return. No one will.

The whole point of this thread was to spread a little love for the Chan Man. Who cares where his offense ranked last year? There the Bills.

He enjoyed the hell out of it, and said so afterwards.
