50 Most Hated Player in NFL History?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/6...edium=referral

For the most part this should be the 50 most hated players of the past 25 years, but it's still a decent list. Great call on including all of the draft cheaters, who in my opinion should be the top four villains on the list: John Elway, Kelly Stouffer, Bo Jackson, and Eli Manning.

The author is obviously too young to remember evil people like Lester Hayes, Howie Long, Lyle Alzado, Todd Christensen, Fred Biletnikoff, and Matt Millen. (Wow, all Raiders - that wasn't even intentional.) Also, Junior Seau, Shannon Sharpe (how'd they miss him?), and Ed McCaffrey should be on this list. I could even see former Chief Andre Rison being on this list. Others worthy of consideration would be Hollywood Henderson, Mark Gastineau, Brian Bosworth, Ricky Watters, Chuck Bednarik, Ray Lewis (or was he on the list?), and Thurman Thomas.

I found Paul Palmer to be a surprising inclusion. I didn't remember the fumble threat and just thought of him as your everyday 1st-round bust.

Edit: "Players" in the title, not "Player". There is more than one in a list of 50. I apologize to anyone who was confused by the misleading title.

Don't forget alex karras and dan beerdorf.

jd1020 10-20-2011 10:29 AM

Ray Lewis is on the list, doesn't make much sense to me.

Because he killed someone?

Brett Farve, Tom Brady and Big Ben rated higher than Bill Romanowski? I think Brett's a idealistic, man child for not retiring but I don't hate him by any stretch. Nor Big Ben or Brady.

Rodney Harrison should be much higher and anyone that rates Vick at #18 needs to go visit some hippie, granola crunching town like Boulder, CO. Seething hatred for the man is the only way I could describe what they've told me about him when I mention PA.

And because he has the biggest ego this side of Terrell Owens? And because he does that stupid girly dance thing before games? And because he thinks he's all great when Willie Lanier would eat him as an appetizer before moving on to the main meal?

Yeah, I'd put Romanowski at #5 behind the draft cheaters, and I don't hate Brady at all. Envy, yes. Hatred, no. Favre got annoying but doesn't make the list and the rapist should be somewhere on it, but not at the top.

Harrison and Vick are indeed too low. Vick may be at #7 on my list.

Glad Hines Ward made it on there. But why is Bo Jackson on there? How can anyone hate him? I also don't see why T.O. is #1. Favre is the easy winner here.

Bo Jackson? The guy who thought he was too special to play for the team that drafted him? The guy who thought he was more important than the beloved sport of American football? The guy who violated the system that helps even the balance of football teams to ensure an entertaining and sustainable product? That guy?

He's #2 on my all-time list because of that garbage. And because he was a Raider, of course.

Yeah, but he was a Royal too! Besides, he was the most entertaining guy to watch strike out. Supposedly a pretty upstanding guy away from the sports world as well.

If the Royals had any character they would have told that guy to hit the road the day he showed up. Go play for the Athletics or something.

He didn't kill anyone. He just wouldn't say anything about his friend and what he saw.

QuikSsurfer 10-20-2011 11:35 AM

Bill Romanowski is number 1 on my list.

BoneKrusher 10-20-2011 11:40 AM

Matt Cassel?

Yeah, I think he just aided and abetted murderers rather than wielding the knife itself. Or at least that's what we're led to believe.

General comments:
How could they mention Elway hate without talking about KC? Elway only hosed the Browns once, he did us multiple times.

Right on about Rodney Harrison. He was a dirty, knee diving douchebag.

Guys not mentioned that should have been on the list:

Raiders:
Ben Davidson
Lyle Alzado
Marv Hubbard
Chester McGlocklin
John Matuzak

Chiefs:
Brock Middlebrook
Dan Williams
Tim Barnett
Bernard Pollard
Fred Williamson
Ryan Sims

Other Teams players who were dirty, criminal or poor character guys:
Alex Karras
Steve Atwater
Jack Lambert
Jim Burt
Dick Butkus
Joe Klecko
Paul Horning

This.

whoman69 10-20-2011 01:23 PM

I can't stand lists like this that only go back a few years. You can't say history if you don't include all history. Do some homework.

DJJasonp 10-20-2011 02:02 PM

No mention of the "Kicker who shall remain nameless"???

there's only a couple people who I really wished injury upon:

Sharpe
Romanowski
Harrison

gblowfish 10-20-2011 02:06 PM

I guess Bills fans would include Scott Norwood as well.

whoman69 10-20-2011 02:24 PM

I dislike players who are arrogant showmen. I hate players who were dirty, except Conrad Dobler whom I think only did it to annoy the other team, not to hurt anyone.

I wouldn't really put anyone on the list because they were a bust. Its not their fault that the team did not judge their skills correctly. The exception would be whiny Ryan Leaf. Guess I didn't remember the crap Paul Palmer pulled. It used to be the Chiefs couldn't draft franchise running backs.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-20-2011 02:31 PM

Romanowski was absolute scum. I still loathe that bastard. I also despise Sharpe, Portis, Jim Harbaugh, Tim Brown, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Cornelius Bennett, Charles Haley, Michael Irvin, Nate Newton, Erik Williams, and Warren Moon

Amnorix 10-20-2011 02:31 PM

Tom Brady #5 most hated? Really? I had no idea he was that disliked around the NFL. When Peyton isn't even on the list? For real?

Am I wrong on this or is he like at least 25 spots too high?

big nasty kcnut 10-20-2011 02:43 PM

i hated fudging elway he was a moron.

TheGuardian 10-20-2011 02:45 PM

Ocho Cinco on the list is stupid. That guy is as good as it gets off the field. To lump him in with people like Rae Carruth and OJ is just ****ing stupid.

at least. Peyton should be higher based on his media whorage alone. I was too lazy to watch the whole slideshow (would love for someone to list this so I don't have to, hint, hint) but to put Brady up there with Carruth, OJ and Lewis (he'd have done hard time were he not a star LB) is beyond stupid.

Backwards Masking 10-20-2011 05:22 PM

IMO Horseface and Little Brother should be on the list if for no other reason than they openly admitted were too good for the teams that drafted them. Couple of privelidged little pussies if you ask me. Of course, Horseface is Number One in my book, but I'm obviously biased.

Good list. All pieces of shit.Except Jim Kelly I have no beef with him.

Aries Walker 10-20-2011 07:33 PM

Jim Kelly was the one who protested when Keith Jackson was traded to the Dolphins, because he said it "upset the competitive balance of the AFC East" - at a time when the Bills basically started the year 8-0, due to the rest of the division sucking so badly. And then he gloated into the camera while Montana's brains were scrambled on the sidelines in the AFC Championship game. He was a total jackass. Probably still is.

It warms my heart to see that Elway has left such a deep mark on your souls.

aturnis 10-21-2011 12:16 AM

That is such a bullshit list it's not even funny. Especially all of these active or recent players who aren't even that hated making up a good part of the top half of the list. Who exactly is the guy who wrote this?

And because T-Rich and Roaf manhandled him on Monday Night in front of his own bitch ass crowd and he couldn't accept it

Caseyguyrr 10-21-2011 03:46 AM

soooo glad to see LJ make the list, what a piece of shit

notorious 10-21-2011 06:35 AM

We need a lot more Chiefs on the list. Evidently the hated win championships.
