AFCE: Patriots, Bills, Jets all tied at 5-3
AFCW: Chiefs, Raiders, Chargers all tied at 4-4 (Broncos one back at 3-5)
AFCN: Ravens, Bengals tied at 6-2 (Steelers half back at 6-3).

There really aren't any overwhelmingly great teams in the AFC this year. The Ravens and Steelers are a step above most. The Bengals seem to be putting it together but I'm waiting for the bottom to fall out there.

I thought Houston would get it together this year... Meh.

So, not a specific issue to the Chiefs or the AFC West, but it certainly seems like the AFC has become the weak stepsister to the NFC. The power-center in the NFL was in the AFC, but over the last few years it seems increasingly clear that its now the NFC.

Yep. IMHO The beauty of the NFL is that there is truly parity, or at least the opportunity for parity if a team's front office and coaches are capable and the owner is committed.

Nature of the beast. This happens every decade or so. It was the NFC for a long time, until the Elway machine stepped up and won 2 straight. After that it was smooth sailing for the AFC for around ten or so years, with the occasional bump in the road. Now the tables are again turning.

Something that is a specific issue to the AFC West though is the fact that it's this years NFC West. There is some seriously inconsistent and downright bad football being played. Still, the Chiefs could win back to back division crowns for the first time since '68-'69. I'd love to see it happen, no matter what the circumstances.

Just to be in the hunt with all the players/talent that we lost for the season is a testament to the team's will, if not to their overall talent and depth.
