75 Best Pictures of Life Magazine

I thought it was interesting. If you do too, we are kindred spirits. If not, we have nothing more to say in this thread.

Are there are a few that stand out to you?

'Hamas' Jenkins 11-21-2011 05:54 PM

Tits or GTFO.

Excellent point.

These stand out for me.

Can you post them here? I'm too lazy to click the link.

5, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 26, 28, 29, 32, 40, 41, 43, 65, 70, 71, and 73 really stand out to me. I discounted some of the more famous ones due to familiarity, most likely. (These are the image numbers in the lower right, not the numbers in the link, which are lower by one.)

Number 65 is one that I'd put up on my wall. Tell me this isn't a cool photo, I dare you.

(Not sure why I can't post the image.)

KC Dan 11-21-2011 06:01 PM

Brilliant! Thanks for posting

I completely agree. I had never seen that.

Rain Man 11-21-2011 06:03 PM

Yeah, both Zach and I picked the drive-in movie picture. That one's awesome.

TrebMaxx 11-21-2011 06:05 PM

I really like number 47 with Sophia Loren in 1966.

Donger 11-21-2011 06:05 PM

The Kiss

RFK (the dead one, not the running one).

All the combat photos.

All the middle-aged guys leering at the girl.

KC Dan 11-21-2011 06:08 PM

I also liked all of the combat photos. I would also pick the Charlton Heston one, I liked the kids at the puppet show and really the Goebbels photo after reading the line about him finding out the photographer was Jewish!

Yeah, that Goebbels one was particularly interesting. Those Nazis were either really good at looking evil or we never see the photos of them screaming with delight on carnival rides.

What about the Olympic athlete? That one and the Audrey Hepburn one where she's wearing only a shirt were saliva-inducing. I also liked the train car picture with Kim Novak that donger mentioned.

But then again, I think it's not hard to take a great photo of a beautiful woman, so that's why they didn't make my list of favorites.

'Hamas' Jenkins 11-21-2011 06:14 PM

I'm actually surprised they didn't include this one:

<!-- LIFE IMAGE ugc1063731 --><iframe scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" src="http://www.life.com/embed/index/image/id/ugc1063731/size/large/isHd/1" width="360" height="450"></iframe>

What am I looking at right there?

Rain Man 11-21-2011 06:17 PM

Is that Jesus and his parents?

And by the way, how are y'all imbedding the photos? I'm missing something.

Parents gripping their son who is dying of AIDS. I think he passed a few hours after the photo.

Rain Man 11-21-2011 06:18 PM

Ah. Is it that "Link To" button on the upper right?

Oh, yeah. Got it. Hello, Audrey.

You have to give Jackie Battle a hand job.

But it is worth it.

mlyonsd 11-21-2011 07:26 PM

Very nice. The one of the japanese soldier's head spiked onto the tank at guadalcanal shows how ugly war can be.

UteChief 11-21-2011 08:15 PM

That would be a great museum exhibit.

I don't know why I have this hunch, but I bet that Goering's favorite ride was the Tilt-A-Whirl.

HonestChieffan 11-21-2011 09:11 PM

Steve McQueen was the definition of badass

That picture is a textbook definition of cool.

Word

blaise 11-22-2011 04:15 PM

The James Dean with a smoke is pretty cool.

blaise 11-22-2011 04:16 PM

And the busboy with RFK is unbelievable, I think.

That one really made me do a double-take. I'd never seen it before.

I liked the James Dean one, too.

While it's not the most shocking, my favorite war picture was the grizzled WWII soldier near the very end. He looks the quintessential WWII military man that you'd want on your side.

Wow, 80 years of American History highlights. Thanks for posting, that was fun to look at and reflect. Life used to be huge, and very important.

Get away. She's mine.

mikey23545 11-22-2011 06:46 PM

The photo of the just-gunned-down RFK is absolutely stunning, and I have never seen it before.

Truly remarkable.

seclark 11-22-2011 08:09 PM
