Gaither expected to start tonight for chargers
It appears that for the second time in three games the Chargers will play an offensive lineman who has been with the team for just a few days.
This time, Jared Gaither is set to start at left tackle on Monday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is expected to work there in place of Brandyn Dombrowski, who did not practice this week due to a foot injury. Dombrowski has started the past two games in place of Marcus McNeill, who was placed on injured reserve this week due to ongoing neck issues. Gaither was claimed off waivers Wednesday and practiced for the first time with the Chargers on Thursday. He was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday. Gaither is the third addition to the offensive line in three weeks. Tony Moll and Ike Ndukwe were signed prior to the team's Nov. 20 game at Chicago. Moll ended up playing 15 snaps against the Bears after Scott Mruczkowski suffered a concussion. Moll started at right guard last week against Denver. The Chargers had also worked Tyronne Green at left tackle in practice but evidently feel better having Green at left guard. Green took over the starting job at left guard after Kris Dielman suffered a concussion Oct. 23 against the New York Jets that eventually landed him on injured reserve. But Green has missed the past two games with a hand injury. Right guard Louis Vasquez also returns this week after missing two games due to an ankle injury. |
That should be interesting to watch.

Draft implications dictate that I must root for JAX.
|
and Barry Richardson gets a free pass for being the worst offensive lineman in the league
|
Could be a Kyle Orton type appearance
|
LMAO
|
We are going to see just how dumb Pioli is.

well here we go ... not sure why he was released .. surely he was decented enough to be bak-up for the rest of the year .. ....

as opposed to Barry Richardson getting beat by I dont even know who the hell that guy is that plays opposite of Peppers on the Bears?
Yea... |

Hopefully he stinks up the joint.
Anything else is an indictment of this staff and FO. |

If the dude plays well tonight Pioli looks like an idiot. |
Gaither doesn't give up a sack, makes 4 pancake blocks that spring Matthews for 125 and Rivers throws for 400 and 3 TDs.
Bank on it. |

Pioli signed him. Haley didn't play him. |

Holy shit, an Itchyass Ndukwe reference. Another sack of shit lineman who was dug in to the starting lineup like an Alabama tick due to his tree connections.

Big loss! |
GM takes the hit for players who get cut and play well elsewhere. That's the job.
But you can blame everyone, too. So we'll do that. |
I didn't know Buck was playing tonight...

What the ****, we have Gaither?
He sucks so bad! The one play I saw him in last week he came in and had a huge false start. **** I can't believe we picked him up. Oh well Suck 4 Fire Norv, amirite? |
Pioli cut him most likely on the recommendation of Haley. I would guess because Mims was getting interest from other clubs and also because Gaither couldn't even beat out Richardson. Its a team cluster if it was wrong.

Well, if that's even possible. |

Hopefully he plays well tonight so we can say it with me......
FIRE Pioli/HALEY |
This all seems eerily familiar
Chiefs cut someone & the Chargers start them |

That being said, there's plenty of other reasons to fire both of them. |
I fully expect him to play well.
|
One thing I have noticed is that out of all the players KC had dumped over the last 3 years under Pioli, hardly any of them go on to do anything good.
Waters is obviously doing fine in NE but outside of him, who has done jack and shit in the league? I may be missing some players but I can't think of any others. |

Come to think of it, you might be on to something here. |
Jason Babin became a Pro Bowl pass rusher and we set a record for rushing futility.
|
he'll probably resurrect his career in San Diego and confirm my suspicion that Pioli/Haley are completely inept

Wade Smith comes to mind as well. |
Quote:
Not sure Wade Smith fits, didn't he get silly $ to go to the Texans as a back up? I think we offered him a contract they just topped it. The bottom line is if KC doesn't want you, you are getting cut from a team with no depth to begin with. You probably suck. Yet we still have O'Connell, Pope, Richardson etc.... |

I can't imagine we'll learn much from his play this week. 2 days of practice with a new team at left tackle?
I have to think even great tackles would struggle in similar conditions. Of course, if he leaves the field after 1 snap for a strained labia, I guess we'll learn something. |

BTW, nice Carl Winslow drop.

I'm now convinced Ricky Stanzi might be Andy Dalton.

I admit, I overreacted about Gaither. He did have a few hold later on, but then again, his first start... Still upset, I bet he grades out well, and is 10x the tackle Richardson is...
|
I think it comes down to he wanted to play LT.

He did pretty good and he knocked the DE out of the game. Pretty much all you can ask for out of a tackle.
|
I don't see how anyone can say this is on Pioli. Pioli signed him, Haley didn't play him. So as a GM, you let go of people that are not making an impact on the team. He wasn't making an impact because Haley wasn't playing him. This falls squarly on Haley.
