Common Names
We've looked at data before on how common different names are, but this is a pretty cool graphic view of it. Click here and enter your name or your alias: http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyage...se&exact=false
What's cool is that you can also enter partial names. For example, enter the letter "O" and you can see how much less common "O" names are now. In contrast, enter the letter "Z" and see the opposite. Kind of fun to check out. Not like roller coaster fun or flag football fun, but fun if you're procrastinating a deadline. |
I tried to find Luv's name in there, but it kept saying "No names starting with 'SLOTHWHORE' ranked in the top 1000 in any time period"
|
Mine has gone from statistically virtually nonexistent when my parents chose it to occurring about 150 times per million today for boys.
The way the chart changes as letters are entered is cool as all get out. |
My name does not appear on the list. Not surprised though, I have only known one other person with the same first name and that was my father.

Mr Rainman you always have the most interesting links. I have already forwarded two today to others.

No names starting with 'BUG' ranked in the top 1000 in any time period.
I am curious as to why Rain Man would be visiting a website such as this, is there a Rain Baby on the way? |

I recently lost my VA card and had to fill out a form to get another. For a joke I wrote in "Killer hands of death" on the line that asked me for any alias's I might have had. They never even looked up or said anything, just typed it in on the new office form. Must be official now since its on a Gov document. ;)
Oh and I can't find that alias used anywhere else. |
My username was a big fat ZERO.
My real name hit 409 in the 1960's and seems to have gone non existent since the 80s |

Name them a common name so they can get a job.

My name is very common. It was #1 for years and now is around 20.
I put in some random names that are uncommon and it's funny how TV personalities influence the name game. Giada was non-existent until it took off in 2007. |
My first name was hugely popular around the turn of the last century but has dropped off to near zero (probably because people are spelling it differently now). I go by my middle name, though, and it is almost the exact opposite. It was almost nonexistent up until around the time I was born (early '60's) and then became very common by the '80's.

WTF THIS THING SUCKS!! I can't put apostrophes in the name field! How the hell am I supposed to look ridiculous made up names like La'Ron or Moni'que?
|
Mark the circle that says girls and try a dude name like Kevin or David. this thing is probably bogus. Sorry Kevin.

The 1980s rank was 97. And Wesley was popular in the 800 millions. But now down to 600. I'll take it! Oh and my name sounds intelligent and friendly the most, according to polls. Sexy is a close second though. All true btw.
|
Mine was #1 in the 1930's, #5 when I was born and #55 now.
In fact, it was in the Top 10 for an entire century. |

Adolph drops off drastically in the 40's. |
Heh.
My name basically fell completely out of use between 1900 and 1960. Became far more popular in the 90's and is still trending upward. I've never personally met anyone with the same name. |
