Orton
Sign him now!
Boot broke dick Cassel, Keep stanzi, draft QB. That is all. CHIEFS! |
Sounds good.
|
I'd live with this. As long as we draft a QBOTF in the next 2 years. I don't want us to reach on a broke-dick pick when we need help other places but QB has to be top priority unless it just makes little sense come draft time based on availability and cost to trade up

Kyle "Pro Bowl" Orton
|
Hes not great, but hes hella better than cassel. Im ok signing him if we also get a qbotf

It was nice seeing passes insteads of lobs and wobblers.

Dude is LIGHT years better than Cassel.
Wow. It was amazing seeing a real-ish QB out there. |

Gentlemen,
keeping Orton means only one thing: We won't draft a QB. This sick, gutless franchise will now allow an overall loser like Orton to get us just close enough to sniff something good but not good enough to get us somewhere great. (cliche, I know) He's another Deberg, another Bono, another Elvis. I don't want another journeyman. I've seen enough of this kind of crap for 40 years. Draft and develop. I jusat cringe at the mileage the front office will try to get out of this win. |
This and more of this.
Cassel needs to be homeless in Detroit. Sentenced to never wear RED again! Keep Orton. Get a QB first round. |

Orton made more throws today than Cassel makes in 10 games. Just shows you what a piece of shit Cassel is.

Run Palko and Cassel out of Kansas City and then pick up a "NFL ready" QB in the draft.
Depth Chart- 1: Orton 2: Stanzi 3: Rookie (: Oh and get rid of Sabby Pickmynose. |

Magically the screen game and play action was there today.

Sign him. He's a capable backup.
Get rid of Cassel. Orton is light years better. Trade up and draft a quarterback. |
Maybe we can give Cassel and a 2nd rounder to the Browns?

or at least seriously give stanzi a shot |
No turnovers against a team that feasts off of them.

We just dominated the Super Bowl Champs and an undefeated team this year. I think for the investment, we have what we need. Spend somewhere else and make what we have better. Defense wins Championships. while a QB would be nice I believe Orton could be what we have lacked. A real QB.

Well done! |
Wow one game, Orton did a decent job but lets not get carried away with him just yet. He is a retread QB that has failed at two other teams.
He did good job today with playaction pass and leading to 4 frieldgoals and a touchdown drive nice job but we can do better in the draft. I still want to see Stanzi. Must Not let true fandomism take over soul body & mind. |
I would say the win today helps him win in FA
|
There is no way we can get rid of him after seeing his preformance against a quality (understatement I know lol) team...
Although, I do want to see that we draft another qb in the draft. |

Man i never seen cassel do what orton did here look at him look off the man on pope. |

Damn Clay - there is an assignment - photo the gif of him wearing red, I imagine that's relatively tough.

From what I've read, it sounds like the big difference Orton made today was hanging in the pocket (or keeping the play alive) when the first option wasn't open or available and going through the entire progression to find the open guy.
It sounds like that why guys like Pope and Blech saw some positive results. It's amazing what you can do when you are actually able to use "all" the weapons at your disposal. FAX |

you can already feel chiefs fans starting to settle.... year 4 of the rebuild and we're building a superbowl team with Orton? ****ing really? jesus aids christ |
Palko and Cassel met tonight to polish up their resumes. Cassel with hopes of carrying a clipboard in a #2 spot somewhere next year.... Palko, trying to decide if a Ford or Chevrolet dealership would be better in Pittsburg.
|
I wanted to draft Orton in 2005, also wanted to trade for him in 2009 to bridge the gap for Sanchez, alas we finally got him. He is a solid starter but not what we need to win the Super Bowl. We still to draft and develop a first rounder to do that. But for the first time since Trent Green played for us in the playoffs against Indianapolis, do we have a legit NFL starter playing for us.
|
Give Orton a fair two-year deal.
Then go get Griffin, Barkley or Foles. |
|
So...isn't Orton an UFA next year?
|
His ball fake was great today.

Contributing to the developing narrative: a column by Andrew Logue in The Des Moines Register in Iowa:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The expression on Kyle Orton’s face reflected his satisfaction. “That’s about as much fun as I’ve had on a football field,” Orton said Sunday after quarterbacking the Kansas City Chiefs to a 19-14 upset of the previously unbeaten Green Bay Packers. Orton, a former Southeast Polk star who was released by the Denver Broncos a month ago, orchestrated the biggest shocker of the NFL season. He finished 23-of-31 passing for 299 yards in his starting debut for the Chiefs, gaining instant credibility. “Your teammates don’t really know you, until you get in that huddle,” Orton said. “I kind of turn into a little bit of a different person.” Orton became the catalyst for a victory in Romeo Crennel’s initial game as Kansas City’s interim coach, calming the storm that culminated with Todd Haley’s firing and the benching of former starting quarterback Tyler Palko. “We asked him to protect the football,” Crennel said of Orton, “take what the defense is giving you. “I think his experience as an NFL quarterback helped him control the offense.” Orton guided the Chiefs (6-8) to field goals on their opening two drives, then completed two key passes during a fourth-quarter touchdown drive that put Kansas City ahead 19-7 with 4:53 remaining. It was enough to subdue the Packers (13-1) and give Orton temporary bragging rights over reigning Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers, who was 17-for-35 passing for 235 yards. “He’s just a natural leader,” said Chiefs running back Thomas Jones, who was a teammate of Orton’s with the Chicago Bears. “You just kind of feel his presence in the huddle. “He’s played in a lot of games and had a lot of success. He’s confident in his ability.” Orton’s veteran savvy was a factor early last week when Crennel decided to play him over former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi, a rookie. “(Players) would know who the guy was going to be and give them an opportunity to learn his cadence and his voice,” Crennel said. “Adapting to that was beneficial to us, because he took all the reps in practice.” As a result, Kansas City’s offense seemed in sync for one of the few times this year. “From the beginning of the game, all the way down to the end,” Stanzi said, “he just did an awesome job of not only managing the game, but making plays.” The Packers owned a 19-game winning streak and had not trailed in the fourth quarter all season. One of those wins came Oct. 2, when Green Bay beat Orton and the Broncos 49-23. “I think the guy is a damn good quarterback,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. “I’m not questioning coaching decisions that have gone on in the past, but I’ve always felt Kyle is an excellent player.” Orton, who has a career record of 34-33 as an NFL starter, will be at the center of more decisions this offseason. He could become a free agent, if he doesn’t sign with Kansas City. The Chiefs, meanwhile, have not decided who will be their permanent head coach. Crennel was asked if Orton could be a long-term option. “If we win these next few games with him and he continues to play like he did, then you might have to say that,” Crennel answered. Orton deflected such questions. “We play Oakland next week,” he said. “That’s the only thing we can think about.” http://www.desmoinesregister.com/art...sey=nav%7Chead Kyle Orton is from Iowa, correct? |

I'm hoping for some blow out wins or losses in these last 2. Only way we'll get to see him since we still aren't mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. |
If they signed Orton to a 2 year deal and released Cassel tomorrow my day would be made. There is no way Cassel should be on the roster.
We still need to draft a QB and I don't see it happening :( |
Orton and Cassel are the exact same age. There is just no ****ing reason to keep Cassel over Orton. Neither is a long term answer but there is no question who should be retained.

Here's some food for thought:
How many of his incompletions were those red zone passes to the front left corner of the endzone? They must have thrown to that spot 5 times without a completion. There were clearly some timing issues. More time with these receivers and he probably starts completing those, making what was a good day exponentially better. I hate to say it, but having seen what this team can do with him, it's hard for me to imagine letting him walk. |
Cassel seems to have a better reputation around the league than he does in KC, there's probably some trade value there for someone. Let's hope. Watching Orton today put a finer point on how bad Cassel is - it's been a long time since we've seen some routine down-field completions you should expect.

Orton was great today. Best QB play we've had for years. But we know that guy's ceiling. We've seen him with 2 teams already and I'm not convinced after one game in which the world champs lost 2 linemen and were without their best WR. I know everybody is on an emotional high that we haven't seen from this team in a long time but jumping on the "sign Orton long-term" wagon is completely knee-jerk at this point.

His game yesterday was impressive. Might have been the most complete Chiefs QB performance in years. It definately was between the 20's. |
1. Sign Orton
2. Release Castle and Palko 3. Draft a QB. |

- We are not going to draft a QB in the 1st round if we sign Orton to a new contract.
- Orton will not sign with KC if he is going to be the backup. Stop suggesting these ridiculous scenarios. If we sign Orton, he is our starting QB. At best we would draft another QB in the mid/later rounds. |
