Polians leaving seems a little shocking.
|
Wow, Polians are out? That is surprising.
|
Bye-bye, Peyton.

They're one of the most talent deficient teams in the league. They've been riding the Manning train and stealing paychecks from the Colts for years. |

It's a little shocking at first to see a guy who has been with a team 10+ seasons leave. |

Manning may well be gone.
|
Caldwell was a ****ing lost Easter egg on the sidelines anyway.

Has this one been reported by any credible outlet?

I'd guess this means they are building around Luck and Manning is gone.
|
Polian out?
no way. |
Isray was the one saying he wanted to keep Manning. Maybe he'll Jerry Jones the franchise & keep broke neck & a 1st round left tackle

Hmmm....so Polian wanted to start over and Irsay said no? That makes sense, too. Guessing it's about Manning, one way or another. |
How long before Manning goes all Elway and becomes GM?
|
I have no idea what Polian wanted. Just recall Isray throwing Manning love
But if he wanted to start over he was right |
I haven't got a tweet from Mort or Schefter to confirm yet so I'm not buying it yet. :thumb:

Nothing on NFLN about this.

(I don't want them, though. Obviously suck without Peyton.) |
Weren't the Colts going to draft Andrew Luck to give Chris Polian a QBoTF?

Supposedly the punter McAfee did tweet the next couple days are going to be interesting. Gonna be surprised if they can Polian... but I guess if they were going to, now is the time.

Wow! |

I told you...they plan on keeping Manning. Too much money invested in the guy to cut and run. Archie has also been very vocal that Luck would be better served going to another franchise. The Mannings have more pull than anyone cares to admit to.

Colts clean house: Polians are out
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 2, 2012, 2:39 PM EST We have our first stunner of Black Monday. Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian and his son G.M. Chris Polian are out in Indianapolis, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. We’ll have more on this story soon. There’s no official word yet on Jim Caldwell. Permalink 0 Comments Feed for comments |
Manning will be gone as well. Just start the franchise over with Luck.
|
I wonder if this opens the door for a Cowher/Gruden type to come in.
I also hope Polian stays the heck away from San Diego. Then again maybe he just rides off into the sunset at this point. It's not like he has anything to prove. |
Interesting to hear Peyton's perspective on the future of the team...

Just because the Colts fired Polian and Caldwell, that doesnt mean Manning is going to go. Manning is going to be a decision based on ownership. And Irsay said he plans to keep him. Do people fail to realize and understand that?

Irsay Says Colts Will Keep Manning in 2012
by the Associated Press 12/23/2011 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It doesn't look as if Peyton Manning will go anywhere next season -- unless he's not healthy. On Thursday, Colts owner Jim Irsay told NFL Network he couldn't foresee a scenario in which Manning would play anywhere but Indianapolis unless he can't play at all. COMPLETE COLTS COVERAGE FROM 1070 THE FAN Manning his missed the entire season and has not participated in full team practices since having the third and most invasive surgery on his neck Sept. 8. "I think the situation is if he's back and he's healthy, I see him coming back and playing here," Irsay said in a 10-minute interview before the game with Houston began. "I think the hope is that his health is in the position where he could return again. That remains uncertain and that's something that's first and foremost on my mind." The signs are encouraging. On Dec. 1, surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins issued a statement saying the fusion between two vertebrae had healed firmly and that Manning could increase the intensity of his workouts. Last Wednesday, for the first time since having the surgery, Manning put on pads and a helmet and threw with teammates. He took snaps from center Jeff Saturday and worked with running back Joseph Addai, receiver Anthony Gonzalez and an unnamed receiver from the practice squad. Colts vice chairman Bill Polian and coach Jim Caldwell both watched the session. Polian and Addai have given Manning good reviews. Manning was inactive Thursday night and has already been ruled out of next week's season-finale at Jacksonville. Caldwell also said this week that Manning would continue to do individual work but would not participate in team work the rest of the season. The only four-time MVP in league history also is due a $28 million bonus in early March -- a prospect that had some thinking Thursday night could be the final time Manning would be on the home team's sideline at Lucas Oil Stadium. Irsay said that's not the case. "I don't see that being an issue," Irsay said. "I paid him $26 million this season and he didn't play and I knew it was an iffy situation. If he's healthy and he can play, he'll be back here." Irsay also said the Colts would take a quarterback, Manning's successor, if the right one is available in April's draft. The Colts (1-13) are the front-runners for the No. 1 overall pick, a slot that most analysts believe will be filled by Stanford's Andrew Luck. Another possible candidate, Southern California's Matt Barkley said Thursday that he would return to school for his senior season. And when the season ends, Irsay acknowledged there would be plenty to evaluate -- from the top down. "I'm concerned we came out and lost 13 games," Irsay said. "We certainly were looking to do better. In terms of evaluating things, I think you have to look at the Texans. Last year, their coach was under great fire, Bob McNair stuck with him and now he's very popular in Houston. So when the season ends, I will evaluate everything. You know I love continuity." http://www.1070thefan.com/news/story.aspx?ID=1630585 |

I hate the Colts almost as bad as the Raiders/Broncos. |
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...lians-are-out/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Irsay is very close to Manning and there was apparent friction between the quarterback and general manager in recent weeks. Polian seemed almost certain to draft a quarterback No. 1 and had been closely tied to Andrew Luck, who yet another Polian worked with at Stanford. |
F O U R
4 1st round draft picks |
What if someone wanted to give their left lung and a leg for the #1 pick? With the total lack of depth at Indy, just maybe they trade the pick. There has been some stupid trades and someone crazy may give up a ton of picks. Indy may need that and with their position of current draft picks, they could land a boatload of great picks.
|
Trade the farm.
We have enough room under the cap, we can go fill other holes in free agency. |
Did we ever figure out the EXACT compensation it would take for us to move up? I'd give up two first rounders in a heartbeat.

4 1st's is a pipe dream. |
I seriously doubt it costs 4 1st rounders to move up 11 spots.

I keep getting the feeling Denver will be in play for the lst pick.

Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star did a major asshole ripping of Chris Polian earlier this year. Basically accused Chris of being the reason numerous coaches and scouts are no longer with the team, including Howard Mudd and Tom Moore. And Chris' rise in power and the absense of these people has directly coincided with the Colts' drafts getting worse. I wonder if this has less to do with Manning and more to do with Bill not wanting to fire his boy. |
Quote:
Considering one of the picks is Luck, that theoretically means you give up a 1st rounder and a couple of second rounders, plus the other round picks, that I'm too lazy to look up. That's a no-brainer. Hell throw in Cassel for good measure. |
I'm pretty sure it was Adam Schefter that put the 4 number out there

He may have a point, if he's talking about the 32nd team moving up, but to move up 11 spots, 4 1st rounders sounds far-fetched. |
If you tweet he'd answer

The Colts shit-canned Polian and his son after one bad season. The Lambs shit-canned their GM after 3 mediocre seasons.
Take notes, Clark. A GM doesn't deserve a 20 year time-frame to get things done and should be held accountable. |

Now they can get ready to be mediocre with Jeff Fisher.

Irsay views Manning’s future as “family decision” not “football decision”
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 2, 2012, 4:27 PM EST AP When the Polians were shown the door Monday, we guessed that Colts owner Jim Irsay was at least partially choosing Peyton Manning over the team’s front office. If nothing else, it will make it easier to keep Manning on the roster if that’s what Irsay truly wants to do. And there is no bigger fan of Peyton Manning than Jim Irsay. Speaking on NBC SportsTalk Monday, Peter King supported this notion. He’s heard that Irsay views Manning’s future as a “family decision” and not a “football decision.” So what does that mean? “It means to me that Jimmy Irsay is going to give Peyton Manning his $28 million bonus unless one of two things happen: Manning absolutely can’t play football or Manning wants out. . . . So I think Irsay has essentially put the onus on himself to make that huge decision.” It sets up an interesting scenario for the direction of the Colts franchise. Will Irsay only hire a general manager or coach that want to work with Manning? Then again, will many coaches and general managers not want to work with a healthy Manning if Irsay is playing the freight? Manning’s health has been lost in all the speculation. We truly have no idea if he’ll ever play pro football again. If Manning does play again, Irsay’s “family” approach to the business makes it more likely Manning will remain in Indianapolis. |
I think there's definitely more to it than Irsay dumping him after "one bad season." Polian is probably one of the greatest executives in football history. 24 years, 17 playoff appearances. 12+ wins twelve times. If you look at his teams' records on paper, it's truly amazing.

Colts minus Manning won 1 game. |
The difference is Manning was more important to his team, because his team was pretty shit minus a few receivers, and Mathis and Freeney, Patriots have always been a more complete team. I still think Brady is the better qb
|
Irsay holding his press conference now. Confirmed both Polians have been let go.
