She's pretty cute. I wonder why the thing snapped.

tooge 01-09-2012 12:32 PM

Bungee jumping in Africa never really seemed like a good idea to me

Bugeater 01-09-2012 12:34 PM

THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO VIEW IS UNAVAILABLE

Lzen 01-09-2012 12:34 PM

Were there any crocs? I'll be the rest of the video would have been interesting.

Dayze 01-09-2012 12:35 PM

it's a video of the jump on a moonless night.

When you see the video, the cord is frayed pretty significantly before she even jumps. I don't know why an operator would even use a cord with any frays, much less the amount of fraying that is visible from 20 feet away in a fairly low resolution video.

KCUnited 01-09-2012 12:40 PM

Watching that free fall really struck a chord with me.

ya, the thing was definitely frayed as hell. It looked like it snapped where the bungee was attached to the other part of the rope higher up. I would guess that wear and tear would be highest at that point from rubbing the dynamic rope against the static rope constantly. I know nothing about bungee jumping, but I imagine its similar to what happens in rock climbing when setting a top anchor and over time the rope wears out.

She's in a 3rd world country. I'm sure they did an overhand knot and went back to work an hour later.

EXACTLY...It's not like they have any kind of inspections from a Safety Administration there.

That was my thought.

It looks like a well thought out plan, with the rocks and rapids and all right below the pool where the jumps are.

As well as people on the ground doing safety spotting from below in case anything goes wrong.

blaise 01-09-2012 01:58 PM

She later got on a crowded ferry with 500 other passengers.

Royal Fanatic 01-09-2012 02:55 PM

It's not like this is the first time a bungee cord has broken. If some people want to risk their lives to do this, I suppose that's fine for them. But I don't have a lot of sympathy for anybody who gets injured or killed while bungee jumping.

Dayze 01-09-2012 03:00 PM

I'm pretty up and down on the whole bungee cord/jumping thing.

The Dawg? 01-09-2012 03:04 PM

She should have tied her strap on tighter.

That's kind of a stretch.

I wonder if there was Beaver Ass down in that river of death? African Beaver Ass is, by far, the most fearsome Beaver Ass in the world.

I would think that a bungee jumper's worst fear would be doing a successful jump but then the rest of the world dies of a sudden pandemic virus before they pull you back up.

Or maybe a bungee jumper's worst fear would be having the cord break and you die, and then having people all over the world making fat jokes about you for the rest of eternity while the video of your fall plays over and over on bad cable TV shows.

Oh Snap

Saul Good 01-09-2012 03:27 PM

She thought the cord was going to be strong enough to hold her. Frayed knot.

Hey, cut her some slack.

Saul Good 01-09-2012 03:37 PM

She jumped off the bridge thinking she would bounce back up, bungee didn't

TimeForWasp 01-09-2012 03:38 PM

Wonder if she got water forced in her bungee

KCUnited 01-09-2012 03:39 PM

The gators were elastic when she hit the water.

RaiderH8r 01-09-2012 03:42 PM

Stupid gravity.

For some reason I remembered when I was like 8-9ish when I was up to shenanigans and something went wrong (like losing an eye) and everybody would just scatter. I picture the dudes on the bridge doing the same when they see that rope coming back up empty. RUN AWAY!!!!

RaiderH8r 01-09-2012 03:43 PM

Also, I would demand a refund. Pretty sure that doesn't count as a bungee jump since she didn't bungee. That was a base jump without the chute and I don't think she paid for that.

Sofa King 01-09-2012 03:45 PM

Ok, you're next! We just gotta re-tie the rope and we're good to go. it might be a little bit shorter when we're done.

Saul Good 01-09-2012 03:45 PM

She seems like she's pretty down to earth.
