Romeo on Cassel
Matt Cassel - QB - Chiefs
Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel threw his support behind Matt Cassel at his introductory press conference Monday. Crennel was also noncommittal on Kyle Orton's return, acknowledging Orton's free agent status and saying he "appreciated" Orton's late-season performance in 2011. "Matt Cassel has won here," said Crennel. "We've been to a playoff with Matt Cassel. I don't think Matt Cassel has fallen off the wagon overnight. I think he's a good talent, he's a good quarterback, and he's taken us to a playoff. I anticipate that he can do it again." http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/n...ittal-on-orton |

I'm more concerned with whether or not a QB will be taken in Round 1.
If so, I can live with Cassel for one more year. |
What did you expect him to say in his introductory press conference? That Cassel sucks, and he is going to pursue another starter? He said what he had to say and hopefully he talks Pioli into pursuing another QB option.
|
Romeo.....Oh Romeo......why hast thou forsaken me....errr.....yeah.
|
Yeah, if Cassel is back ill be dissapointed big time. It will just take the steam out of EVERYONE that roots for the Chiefs.

As long as Muir is gone I can stand him for another year and someone that can play-call and game plan...
|
well, It's Time for Romeo ta go. LMAO
|
This really doesn't mean shit.
You always endorse players on your roster. Definitely not going to bash a guy if you're going to try and get ANYTHING in return for him. |

What did the Romeosexuals expect? Fat Scott wanted a puppet HC who would go with Cassel... Romeo fits that profile.
Jeff Fisher wanted to go to a team with a legit QB and probably laughed in Fat Scott's blubber-filled face at the idea of keeping Cassel. |

This will be resolved as soon as free agency starts, thankfully.
Either we resign Orton, or we spend two years in the 10th circle of hell, the one created specifically for Chiefs fans. |

To RAC's point, I don't think he's concerning himself with a QB that isn't under contract when the team has two that are. But I didn't expect him to come out and shoot down Cassel from the get go. Hopefully that's what happens over the summer, but I didn't expect it to happen in his first press conference. |
First press conference you say all of your players are good. He has to say Cassel is capable of leading the team to the playoffs. You show uncertainty about Orton until he signs a new agreement because you don't want his price to go up.
Heck, even though I would look to sack Cassel if I were the HC, I would have said the same thing at my first conference. It is what is expected. It is diplomatic. It portrays a positive image. So, don't read into it any more than that. This is especially true given that we do not draft high enough to get a decent QB, and there are no decent free agents unless the Colts cut Manning. So, we may be stuck with him until Stanzi is ready or we find another solution (e.g. Orton or another late round pick). |
OMG that pic almost made me piss myself

Go Broncos!

I wouldn't expect a coach to say anything different. No coach is going to throw a QB under the bus, they need to be seen as leaders. His comments on Orton showed that he would pick Orton over Cassel if given the opportunity, and Orton wasn't even that good.
|
I've been hired by Joe Gibbs to race on his team... only problem is he wants me to drive a Chevette. I think I could win but it's going to require a lot of wrecks.
|
What exactly have we won with Cassel, RAC?
I'll tell you. 18 regular season games in THREE ****ing years. One thing RAC is right about? Matt Cassel didn't fall off the wagon overnight. The problem is that these ****tards haven't realized he was never ON the ****ing wagon. |
Carl and Herm react to today's press conference.

You left out the part where he said "If Orton were under contract I'd have a bigger situation here."
His whole point during the press conference was that Cassel and Stanzi are the QB's we have under contract right now. He never implied he wouldn't try to bring in more competition one way or another, and I don't think that him saying positive things about the only QB we have on the roster means he's being a Pioli puppet. As I've said before, if he's given nobody but Cassel and Stanzi to compete then I'll be pretty pissed, but i don't think that'll be on Romeo. He's been indirect, but pretty obvious about the fact that he wasn't happy with the QB's on this team leaving his defense on the field so much. |

He needs some time to change things, but on this day, had to be politically correct to an extent. You could tell he was a little frustrated with the questions, as he thought he was going to get some love. I know that RC knows Cassel sucks, and I don't think for one minute, he is going to let Cassel cost him this job. |
Don't think I'll be paying for NFL ticket next year then. I think I'll do more fishing.

I don't care how many rings he has - none of them say "Chiefs" on the side and until they do, he better get to work. |

i dont care if it made sense or not. |

I think in and of itself these comments aren't that big of a deal. You don't get hired and then come in a rip a player your boss brought in. Even in the perfect world where Romeo and Pioli have agreed Matt isn't good enough Romeo is not going to come out and rip him.
The problem I have is that, like many, the fear of Cassel is so big that any positive comments about him make me want to cry. We are going to have to wait for moments like Free Agency and the Draft to know where this organization is going with the QB. Odds are Cassel will be our starter and that makes me sick. I do think, however, that Romeo is not the biggest Cassel fan. I just hope that helps in some way. |
I would expect nothing else from a new head coach. What would you want him to do? Pull a Josh McDaniels and come out letting everyone know that you are looking to replace your starting QB? That worked out so well for the Donks.

Well crap. 3 more years of crap.

This is actually a great hire.
It's a Pioli yes man who will trot Matt Cassel out there to be the shitty qb that he is and all will be gone in 2 years. And if he doesn't do that, we get a new qb. It's win win. |

Scott Pioli, the supposed Gm of the century or decade or whatever, is hitching his career on a backup quarterback that didn't even play the position in college and over the past three years has ranked in the bottom of every passing stat in the league.
Damn you B. Pollard, damn you. |

This is much ado about nothing right now. Could be honest (and, to be fair, working under Pioli is strong evidence that it could be), or it could be akin to a GM giving the "fatal endorsement" of a coach. Wait an judge on actions, not words. There's no choice but to do so with the owner/GM we have.
|
This is GREAT news. Now that we have the qb situation resolved we can move on to the other important positions.
|
Yep, once we sign Orton and cut Cassel, Romeo wont have to worry about any qb stuff.
