Clash of the Sitcoms: Round 1, Heat 3.
Got some good ones here. Vote for three.
|
I always liked Coach
|
Taxi and DVD.
|
For me, the list goes like this:
#1. Three words, eight or nine syllables. Reverend Jim Ignatowski. You could put him on The Evening News with Brian Williams and it would be one of the funniest comedies ever. Taxi in the top slot. #2. The Dick Van Dyke Show. I haven't seen a whole lot of these, but I recall it being well written and funny, and how can you not like Rob and his hot, cute wife Laura? #3. Everybody Hates Chris. The title would indicate that it's incredibly lame and unimaginative, but it's actually a pretty entertaining show. Try it, you'll probably like it. Didn't make the cut. I Love Lucy. For its time, it was probably pretty cutting edge, but it never really spoke to me. The scenarios were a little unbelievable at times, and it centered too much on Lucy and not enough on the other characters. I prefer ensembles. But I recognize that it was great in its day. Coach. I suspect that I might like this show, but I think I only saw one episode. For some reason I was never home and unoccupied when it was on. It's an unknown quantity. |
One thing about the older shows like Lucy and DVD. Their writing had to be funny without todays loosened censorship rules. I can't imagine a young Mary Tyler Moore using Two and a Half Men type scripts.
|
Coach and Taxi for sure for me, not sure about the 3rd.
|
I cannot in good conscience vote for any of these.
|
Taxi has some of the most memorable sitcom scenes such as Jim taking the driver's ed test.
I can't believe I Love Lucy isn't getting much love. |
Rain Man is on a rampage because he no longer is the Archery champion....how does it feel to get dethroned brosef?
|
Where can one find the entire list? I'd love to see if Community or WKRP are representing.

"Slow down." "Okay. What ... does ... a ... yellow ... light ... mean?" "Slow down!" "Whaaaaaat......dooooooes.....aaaaaaaa...." |
Taxi is as classic as it gets. Good poll Raindude.
|
The Dick Van Dyke show is one of the best sitcoms of all time. Way ahead of it's time. Carl Reiner is a comedy genius.

How in the hell does Coach beat out the Dick Van Dyke Show AND I Love Lucy?!?!
|
This was the toughest one so far for me. Hated not voting for Coach. But Taxi, Lucy and Van Dyke are three of the best shows in the history of television.

BTW. I Love Lucy was great. |
Coach
Taxi Lucy |
It's hard for me to believe that Dick Van Dyke isn't winning this round. Though I do like Taxi, Coach and I Love Lucy I would rank them this way:
Dick Van Dyke Taxi I Love Lucy Coach |

Another great episode from Taxi is the one when Jim took his first hit of pot in college. IMO, this contest comes down to Taxi and WKRP. M*A*S*H* will be in the running, but the later years put it behind the others. All in the Family and SOAP are at the top too. |
I loved Coach. It was cheezy but I love football and haydens cabin in the woods was awesome.

If Coach knocks out the Dick Van Dyke Show it will prove CP is populated by a bunch of 19 year old reeruns.

Taxi great writing and characters. But this was a motivating factor for watching for me. My first redhead crush as a youth. Marilu Henner.

Taxi is the only one I think really deserves to go far in this contest, but I gave an honorable mention vote to DVD.
I never liked Lucy or Coach and I never watched Chris. BTW, for those that don't know, the actor who played the assistant coach on Coach made a few appearances on the DVD show with his real life brother, Dick Van Dyke. |

Wow, that's right. I never watched Coach, so I'd forgotten that Jerry Van Dyke was on both shows something like 30 or 40 years apart. What an odd coincidence. |

But I'm with you....WKRP should win this contest. Although I will say that Home Improvement provided some great comedy moments too. My favorite Home Improvement episode is where Jill is trying to have the romantic episode with Tim after he has taken the boys to a Monster Truck Rally and had Nachos, a Chili Dog with extra slaw and onions, chili Cheese Fries and a large Root Beer. Pure comedy....and I bet that scene has happened in millions of households more than once. http://youtu.be/y8GnW07VMbQ |

She is hot in any era. That's a hell of a body. |

should have been Everybody Loves Chris & Everybody Hates Raymond. |
Dick Van Dyke briefly caught Coach and even passed it by a vote, but now has fallen behind again. Meanwhile, Lucy floats just above the danger zone. We're going to see a popular show go down in this heat.
|
"Lucy" an innovation in it's time, does not age well. Stories are contrived and too silly for today's audience. Thanks for the Memories. But no "Thanks."

The problem is that most of the people here now aren't really old enough to have seen Dick Van Dyke |

Coach is my favorite on this list. ILL hasn't aged well, never got into Taxi at all and even as old as I am, I do not remember DVD very well.
|
Coach beating Dick Van Dyke would be like Hee Haw beating SNL.
|
Taxi, Lucy, DVD.
I like Coach, but these three are much better shows. |
DVD all the way
Mary Tyler Moore gets me in da boner zone yo |
Laura Petry is my all time dream woman.
|
Laura Petrie vs Ann Marie (That Girl). When I was Stewie age that was my first life quandry.
|
Closing down the poll. Moving on are Taxi, Coach, and I Love Lucy.
Laura Petrie looks sad and says, "Ohhhh, Rob!" |
DVD is one vote out. Perhaps you should rethink cutting it from the poll.
