Clash of the Sitcoms: Round 1, Heat 7.

Tell me what you think about this heat.

My thoughts:

#1 by a mile - The Office (US version). Creed Bratton is awesome. And then when you throw the rest of them in there, it gets even more awesome.

#2 - The Honeymooners. You have to give a nod to a show from an era when domestic violence was funny. While this show was way before my time, I've seen a few episodes in syndication, and it seems like they were early innovators of the sitcom style, and it even holds up over time.

#3 - Evening Shade. Honestly, I don't remember much about it other than there being a funny little bald guy on it, and Burt Reynolds was cool. That's enough to get my #3 vote.

Didn't make the cut.

#4 - One Day at a Time. Smokin' Hot Teenage But Over 18 Valerie Bertinelli can't be beat, but my god, everyone else on that show was annoying, especially the incestuous drug-addicted sister. But the show does get points for introducing America to Smokin' Hot Teenage But Over 18 Valerie Bertinelli.

#5 - Growing Pains. Never saw it. Seems like a "ha ha, children are funny" show that I would hate.

It's obvious you've never seen Growing Pains. It was like "ha, ha Boner is funny".
RIP.

I'd have to think long and hard for any reason why another show on this list is even in the same league as The Office.

That's what she said.

The Office should win this in a landslide, but they should give it up after this season. Not the same or as good without Steve Carell

RealSNR 01-15-2012 11:40 PM

You know, Leonardo DiCaprio joined the cast of Growing Pains for its final seasons when he was a kid.

He wasn't that funny. His character was this street kid who was friends with the youngest son (can't remember his name). The family brought him into the home, but he didn't bring anything to the show. All of his stories had to do with his messed up childhood, his bad parents, and all that kind of drama.

As far as I know, this is the only role DiCaprio has ever played where he didn't die at the end.

I call BS. This has been a fine season up to this point.

When DiCaprio joined the show it jumped the shark. They also added some red headed 3 year old girl. That didn't help.

I was in high school when that show first came on. No one I know missed it. Valerie Bertinelli made it worth watching.

And she is still hot.

I voted for One Day at a Time because I adore Valerie Bertinelli. However, the episodes that didn't focus on her sucked. Especially the ones with McKenzie Phillips as the main character. ****, what a dog. :Lin:

Funny thing is, I think the show is much better without Steve Carell. His character started out strong, but got progressively less entertaining each season. Anything with Michael and a love interest automatically sent me reaching for the remote, and that seemed to happen more and more each season.

The Office is the only one I could vote for.

rageeumr 01-16-2012 07:31 AM

7 heats and I have yet to cast 3 votes in any of them. I must not watch enough TV.

Same here.

Dartgod 01-16-2012 08:35 AM

Honeymooner and Growing Pains.

And I couldn't help myself and voted for One Day at a Time. Valerie Bertinelli made me do it.

Predarat 01-16-2012 08:42 AM

The Office is awesome, and was my favorite show for several seasons. Now I like Parks and Rec better, not too much focus on one or two characters.

patteeu 01-16-2012 09:27 AM

The Office is a great show although I've been getting tired of it lately.

Growing Pains featured one of the greatest Canadian entertainers ever, Alan Thicke.

And Smokin' Hot Teenage But Over 18 Valerie Bertinelli is enough to give One Day at a Time my third vote. It had a kind of catchy theme song too.

I never cared for The Honeymooners and I don't really remember Evening Shade.

No, but I often thought about doing a "Pow! Right in the kisser" on her.

Maybe 'pow' isn't quite the right word. What's a good word that brings to mind fluid striking a person?

LMAO

Okay, we're closing on 150 votes and I like putting up polls, so we're calling the race. Moving on are The Office, starring Creed Bratton (US version), The Honeymooners, and Growing Pains.

Maybe I'll have to watch an episode of Growing Pains at some point.
