That should read Andy Samberg.

Sofa King 02-23-2012 09:50 AM

Neg rep for anyone voting for Fallon.

That piece of crap ruined more skits than he helped.

Dayze 02-23-2012 09:52 AM

the Cork Sucker skit, and Barry Gibb talk show was pretty good though.

Because he giggled through every skit?

whoman69 02-23-2012 01:19 PM

This is the closest competition so far. Only 7 votes separate the top vote getter from the 12th.

Rain Man 02-23-2012 01:23 PM

Short, Poehler, Schneider, Hader, Wiig.

Chiefless 02-23-2012 01:32 PM

Kevin Nealon? Dude was always a limp noodle on mayo and white bread with a side salad of wilted iceberg lettuce and wesson oil.

whoman69 02-23-2012 01:33 PM

The top 20:

Farley
Myers
Fay
Radner

Ferrell
Crystal
Miller

I tend to agree, the name is bigger than the resume for SNL. He was mostly on the sidelines though he did have a couple of good characters in Hans and Franz along with Subliminal Man.

Tarzan, Tonto, and Frankenstein doing Christmas carols. Can't be topped.

I thought Keven Nealon was good in Weekend Update.

Rain Man 02-23-2012 02:00 PM

And it even generated spinoffs.

I'll give you subliminal man, but Hanz and Franz was most likely dreamt up by Dana Carvey.

All Hartman IMO.

Hartman was inspired, I don't deny that, but I also don't think the skit flies without the contribution of Nealon's earnest Tarzan or Lovitz's stoic Tonto.

whoman69 02-23-2012 03:16 PM

You have three kinds of cast members. You have the stars who come up with the most ideas for sketches and are the funniest. You have the people who are in a lot of sketches because they make the stars look good (they play well with others) or can cover a certain role. Then you have the guys who are extras in the scenes with no speaking lines who get relegated to having a skit on the weekend update. IMO Tracy Morgan, Tim Meadows, Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Nealon were amongst the third type. Chris Rock, Andy Samberg, Jim Belushi, Amy Poehler, Rob Schneider and Kristen Wiig were the second type. Martin Short and Joe Piscapo were the big stars of the show during their time.

I'll give you that. And with that I'll call him the Tyler Thigpen of cast members. Never great. Mostly bad. And on rare occasions pulls something average out his butt.

I dunno about Nealon. I'd definitely classify him in your second group. He was in all sorts of sketches.

I think Samburg & Wiig are the 2 biggest "stars" on the show right now. Samburg's Digital Shorts have been one of the highlights of the last several seasons. Wiig has created more characters than anyone in recent history.

Yes. That and Wiig is quite fetching imo.

Sofa King 02-23-2012 03:57 PM

Who is voting for Fallon.

Show yourselves and let justice be done upon you.

Maybe I just can't get beyond his starring role in Hot Rod.

I liked some of his skits...but his laughing/smiling thing bugged me when he would laugh in the middle of a bit.

He did that in every single skit.

Gadzooks 02-23-2012 05:39 PM

I voted:
Fallon
Samberg
Nealon
Short
When it comes to who is the most important to the SNL franchise, I'd have to go with Nealon due to the duration of his stay added to hosting Weekend Update. Andy Samberg would be a close second for his SNL Shorts that breathed new air into a stale show.

whoman69 02-23-2012 07:25 PM

Closest vote so far. 10 votes separate first place from being out of it. We have 3 vying for the last spot with only one vote separating them and several within range of catching them.

I'd vote him about 10th on this list. He had no memorable characters except Barry Gibb. He couldn't get through a skit without laughing. That's why they put him on update.

whoman69 02-23-2012 08:59 PM

Bump for the nite crew

Psyko Tek 02-23-2012 09:17 PM

maybe the only one but I love subliminal man

Omaha 02-23-2012 09:23 PM
