Paging Mecca... Let's talk Matt Kalil.
Personally, I don't know how we didn't see a potential trade up for Matt Kalil coming, if that's what we end up doing.
We tried trading up last year for Maurkice Pouncey's brother, who played OL. This year, we could very much try to trade up for Ryan Kalil's brother, who plays OL. The great thing about this year's draft season is that everybody has a YouTube channel where they post sliced/diced videos of prospects -- makes watching tape so much easier. I hadn't spent any time watching Kalil so I watched some tape this afternoon and I obviously really like him. He's got a perfect kickslide, and he has great athleticism for our scheme. Pioli likes his linemen to run fluidly, not kind of clunk downfield like Richardson. Kalil wasn't asked to pull block or go to the second level very often in USC, but he certainly looks the part. He looks really great in pass protection, but his run blocking needs a lot of work. Getting push is not a problem for him, but USC never really asked him to open holes. Wondered what you guys thought about him. I know it's easy to hate on the guy because we really don't want a trade up, but be dispassionate. It's out of our control anyway. |
It is what it is with this pick.
Same with taking a guard at 11. I think there's lots of options, and I trust pioli this year. |
I don't know if this is the place to put this or not, but the Milwaukee Journal has a pretty good write up on most all of the top players at each position. Scroll down through thier list and you will find topics like... Rating the NFL Draft Prospects: Offensive Linemen.
Pretty good reads with NFL Scouts takes on each player. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/ |
Mecca knows jack, and shit, and jack left town.

Trading up for a position we already have a good player at would make me sad...

Mecca gives good takes on the drafts however I don't think he's seen a USC player in the draft he doesn't like.

Haha, I like Matt Kalil obviously the guy is a very good prospect. I however don't think he's going to go to 15 pro bowls and be a top 3 LT. He's not going to be bulldog tough either, he's more finesse and technique and cut out to zone block and such.
I think he'll be a consistent player who plays a long time and does a nice job, I think he's a pretty safe pick in that he won't be Jason Smith. He's a better prospect than his teammate Tyron Smith was last year. Matt is really good in the pass game, in the run game I'd say his maybe above average, he can get better as he wasn't a starter all that long. If you want a dominant mauling run blocker he's not your guy. He's basically the polar opposite of Jake Long. |
I'd be FURIOUS if the Chiefs traded up for him.

We don't need to draft a LT in the first.

Albert Kalil Hudson Asamoah Winston Then Albert leaves in 2013, Kalil slides to LT, and we draft a G. Just sickening how much talent there is there. |
and Cassel would still suck

You dont need an All-world OL to win in the NFL. |

My five friends are enjoying your last comment. :spock: If you to be all-world in a few places to consistently win in the NFL. A GREAT offensive line allows many wonderous things to happen: 1. Protect your backfield 2. Great running game 3. Time for multiple move routes in the passing game 4. Control the tempo of the game/Defense gets rest 5. Impose your will on defenses If you don't have a great OL, you better be damn great several other places on the field. |

If we're that hard up for an Offensive Lineman who can help shore up the left side...stand pat and draft DeCastro. |

Brock...wave your wand and bring us a franchise QB instead.
Name one Super Bowl winner (Brady does not count) who had a QB that was so unaccomplished in college (ala: Tannehill). |

You're wrong. It isn't a necessity, and the teams winning the super bowl lately should give you all the illustration you need. It's only a necessity if you've given up on fixing what's really wrong with the team. I'm not arguing against drafting Kalil at 11. |
Who doesn't want to fix the Chiefs' QB situation?

Kalil Hudson Molk Asamoah Winston Albert gets traded on draft day if we get Kalil, or he goes inside. Period. |

But what does it matter? We should only draft QBs and eventually we'll get lucky. |
