Smith getting shelled already *Royals* gamethread 5-23

Sucks to see his family all stoked and then the dick head yankees are teeing off on him.

3-0 in the 1st so far...

Nightfyre 05-23-2012 05:23 PM

Just let him pitch 110 pitches and pull him. He'll eventually hit a stride.

lewdog 05-23-2012 05:23 PM

We are using an already in use thread for the game thread. See "Goooo Royals."

petegz28 05-23-2012 05:25 PM

Time to send hmi back

Nightfyre 05-23-2012 05:28 PM

Well, he is getting a rushed debut early because we have like five pitchers on the DL. Plus he's probably not the sharpest in his first game against a lineup full of future hall-of-famers. I'd say its a little early for Pete to declare him a bust. ;)

GoHuge 05-23-2012 05:46 PM

Guess if we are going to bring up just any guy with a live arm we might as well bring up Montgomery too. He supposedly has "great stuff" and they've got almost identical stats across the board other than Smith is 2.5 to 1 SO/BB to Montgomery's 1.5 to 1 SO/BB. Hasn't really translated into anymore runs given up though. They've only got a .3 ERA, .01 WHIP, and 1/3 innings pitched difference between them. Bring'em all up!!

Nightfyre 05-23-2012 05:47 PM

Why would you not have Gordon lay down a sac bunt in that scenario? You know Pettite against left handers is going to induce a groundout. Sacrifice bunt scores one and advances another to scoring position and brings up a righty. Poor game management there, imo.

petegz28 05-23-2012 05:51 PM

Will Smith fitting right in with our pitching staff

No small-ball in the AL until the 8th and 9th, please, unless there are extenuating circumstances (which don't exist in this case).

I feel the same way.

Basically conceding the game before it even starts.

"Here you go rook, good luck."

Mama Hip Rockets 05-23-2012 06:00 PM

BTW I've always thought the guy with Vinson Assoc was annoying as hell on the radio, but having to see his dumb ass in between pummeling innings really makes me want to break his ****in nose. Wish Joel would instead of giving the dipshit a high five.

Maybe Smith wasn't working hard because he though he was already good enough so the Royals are teaching him a lesson?

you still don't sacrifice a MLB game for that imo

has to be a guy that is closer to being ready than this guy though

Fish 05-23-2012 06:06 PM

Ahhhhh Helllllllllllll Nah...........

Nightfyre 05-23-2012 06:06 PM

Lets all pull completely speculative reasons about why the Royals chose to start Smith and make a poll about it. Or we could just accept the fact that we don't know the inside scoop on it and not speculate on ridiculous assumptions.

Mama Hip Rockets 05-23-2012 06:06 PM

He wasn't even very good in AAA, so I'm not sure why they would think he's ready for MLB.

You must admit it is a little frustrating.

I didn't think Mendoza had been too terrible in spot starts and long relief appearances.

It's fitting with a lot of blindingly stupid shit that Dayton Moore has done and will inevitably continue to do. Because...yeah, it's obvious. But that doesn't mean that "he wants to lose" or is "teaching __ a lesson."

Peter Principle. Nothing new with regard to Barnyard Dayton.

I felt Laz's post was out of frustration and more so facetious rather than serious.

But, Im just a fan, and the call to have 22 year old make his debut at Yankees Stadium wasn't the brightest move.

Regardless of their struggles they're a veteran group.

petegz28 05-23-2012 06:29 PM

You might be right, and I might be misreading Laz's post.

I completely agree with your second line, and this is why I believe that Dayton Moore is dumb as ****; he's proven this time and again. He might be able to draft, but that's about it.

Well there was zero reason to send this kid up today and put him in this situation.........none. OK yeah he pitched 2 solid games in AAA before this, but that isn't even REMOTELY enough to warrant bringing him up. I don't care how mentally tough someone is.........this is something that could have serious long-term consequences on the kid's confidence.

You can't paint me a picture to show me how or why this makes any sense. Just a 4.00 ERA 22 year-old AAA kid that is what? Gonna turn into a solid starter in the Big Leagues when he's been nothing more than average in the minors??

This after hearing Stark and Petro really getting into to Melky for Sanchez trade and what a disaster that has been. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know Melky is hitting .360 bad. One of those things where I had just decided to avoid looking at it to keep from getting even more pissed off about this season. We got a terrible starting pitcher out of the deal who is on the DL along with our sure-fire (until Bubba is ready) center fielder while we get to watch his replacement run rainbow routes to get fly balls that aren't hit directly at him!!

By far Dayton's most productive trade to date.........just not for us. Get rid of Melky after his "fluke" year for Sanchez and sign Alice for $50 million!! :thumb:

The fun just never ends with this organization. This is my first meltdown of the year, but I see many more to come. Oh I love it!! LMAO

To the Royals this was a throw away game. A game that Dayton Moore and Ned Yost were very clearly not interested in winning.

Dr. Johnny Fever 05-23-2012 11:47 PM

As probably one of the biggest Royals homers on the board I can't think of one good reason to have started Will Smith in this game. The Vin Mazzaro treatment over again. Mendoza wasn't a good starter but he'd have been a much smarter choice tonight imo.

The "good reason" is that Dayton Moore doesn't know how to manage or assemble a decent ML roster. This is the same criticism that has been valid since his over-rated self rolled into KC.

Yay!

No someone quick point out that we have the #3 rated farm system.

I was behind the Melky Cabrera trade. it was a decent gamble (And wouldn't be nearly as painful if the Royals had done more to help the pitching staff in the offseason). I would have rather seen them sign him long-term than Franceouer, but I don't know if Melky staying in KC was even really an option (it was never discussed).

Starting to look more and more like Moore's time in KC might mirror that of another John Schuerholz-system product, Chuck LeMar... build up the farm system, then hand it off to someone new.

The Royals likely will be playing for Dayton's job next season...

I was completely behind the Melky trade too. Who wouldn't have been really? A desperately needed starter for an expendable outfielder with Cain ready to take over. Now Cain's hurt and Sanchez blows so far... and Melkys raking. 'Bout the way most of our trades seem to go.

Oh...

I'm not sure what bonehead mistake you are talking about.

Calling up a nobody to start in Yankee Stadium, when we don't really have ANY other options?

Or trading a noodle-armed OF coming off a career year for badly needed starting pitching, when we have 2 stud OF ready for the majors?

Mendoza would have been a better choice than Smith simply from an experience standpoint. Plus he's pitched well in log relief.
