Really hard not to like Matt Cassel.
I can't help it. He is everything I like in a quarterback other than his inability to be consistently really, really good.
Kind of a ****ed up thing to say. But he's such a good representative for this team. He blocks when run plays swing around, and blocks really, really enthusiastically for a QB. He sticks up for all his teammates, and has never thrown them under a bus. He's got occasional throws when his protection is strong that do genuinely look like brilliant darts into the chest of a receiver. He's not a drama queen, doesn't crave attention. Gives his time up for charity, married to a camera shy college sweetheart who as it turns out is the leggiest brunette this side of the Atlantic. He's really fiery, even having that awesome exchange of words with Haley last year. He'll get in a fight, even a physical fight for the guys in red. He ****s around with his teammates on the sidelines and knows the playbook like a mother****er. Sure, he's got the beta-male thing going on, but he's not flawless. And we all know it: if Matt Cassel was even a pretty good Pro Bowl talent, he'd be your favorite Chief. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/80PHRscpGsc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> At 4:50, and at 5:14, two examples of Cassel putting his body out there for a teammate, in this case Jamaal Charles. Seriously, folks. He's done nothing wrong but work his ass off for this team, do everything it takes to win, and be physically limited in what he can do. He was one of the reasons Baldwin was able to turn it around decently last year. Cassel and Baldwin were BFFs in the preseason, and when the whole locker room could have turned on Baldwin after the Thomas Jones debacle, I'm willing to bet the first thing Cassel did in Baldwin's first practice back was throw him the ball. Cassel might have been the life saver around Baldwin's locker room rep. I can understand being frustrated with Cassel. I know you all are too. But there is no reason to do anything but just hope the guy gets better. Stop rooting for injury. Stop calling him an asshole. Because he's a really ****ing good dude, and a decent quarterback. He's been good to this franchise in a lot of ways, and if he was better on the field you guys wouldn't be able to stop sucking him off. We're all hoping Stanzi gets a shot this year, and I've been consistently mocking QBs to the Chiefs in round 1 next year. But get your head on straight. Root for Matt Cassel. |

Probably going to get piss pounded for this but I got a sneaky suspicion he's going to have a great season.
|
Do you watch football? Good God you've lost your ****ing mind.
|
I agree. Other than his complete inability to read an NFL defense and run an NFL passing attack, he seems like a hell of a guy. I'd have a beer with Cassel anytime.

The Person Versus the QB.
Great person I believe, sucks as QB. |

I am in full pro-Cassel mode, people. ****ING BRING IT. |

We have a mediocre schedule this year. Better receivers. Better OL. And better RBs. What you say? |

I once watched him throw a pick on a screen pass... a hat flip followed.

Eric Winston alone is going to make Cassel infinitely better....
*runs away and hides* |
Matt Cassel is Jeff Francouer

We have a difficult schedule this year. Especially since Kyle Boller just retired, guaranteeing we don't play him. |
Cassel is one of the worst QBs in the league by any metric
he's been stealing money, and wasting the years of our best players and in our playoff game he played like a complete pussy, embarrassed the franchise but he doesn't flex like Bowe so chiefs fans love him |

Now he has a decent schedule, with a better run game and good receivers, and a Top Ten defense. |
It's alright Direckshun, I'm sure LA Chieffan has your back.

He has an intangible. Something that puts him above any other NFL qb. I can't put my finger on it, but he has it.
Oh wait... I know what it is... He's ****ing incompetent. |

I don't give a rat's ass if he's Abe Lincoln, Ghandi, and Nelson Mandela all rolled into one off the field.
He is complete ass on the field. And that 27-7 stat is an overrated and useless aberration. |

But we can all agree that Jaws' breakdown is accurate. Cassel's not ass. He's a good game manager who needs a good team to be good. Good? |

Re-read the OP with Tebow in mind rather than Cassel. Pretty much everything fits but the stuff about being married.

I could give a crap if he's a great guy after 40+ years without a SB and 18 years without a playoff win. Its not a popularity contest, its a football game. Matt Cassel is not and never will be good enough. I'm sure Steve Fuller, Todd Blackledge and Steve Bono were all great guys. If he can win a Super Bowl and be a great guy, I suppose that's a bonus. Cassel can only get halfway there. He cannot win a playoff game even if (and that's a big if) he plays well enough to get there, and he certainly can't carry this team to the Super Bowl let alone win it.

and he dances as well as Fred Astaire when the ball is snapped.. |
I oddly see this sentiment a lot (especially at ArrowheadPride), and I don't understand it.
Do you like watching the defense give Cassel chance after chance to put together a scoring drive? Do you enjoy watching this dickhead throw an interception on a screen pass? Do you live to witness him take a sack while a receiver is so open that he could do a ****ing Jabberwockeez dance routine? Do you thrill to the thought of Bowe having to do a 45 yard comeback route because Cassel can't get hit him in stride? In terms of total talent on both sides of the ball, I can't remember a more stacked Chiefs roster in the nearly 25 years I've been watching them. Now I get to watch yet another year of their career get thrown into the trash. He's not only wasting my time as a fan, but the careers of actual talented players. HOW ****ING DARE YOU? |
Cassel is a great guy, but a terrible QB. There are millions of people in the world that are great guys, yet terrible QB's.

If cassel plays even reasonably well, there is going to be a lot of butthurt morons to laugh at in 2012.
I for one am very excited. |

I've asked this before, and no one answers: Does anyone on this forum believe the Chiefs have any shot at winning a SB this year? If not, why? |
I'm rooting for him. I have no choice...

Just good enough to get you beat.

Mediocre QBs play resonably well all the time. Mediocre QBs go to pro bowls. Medicore QBs go to the SB with the same ticket they buy that any other football fan can purchase. |

2010 was better than reasonably well, and I do not think that is his ceiling. I think he will break the Chiefs record for TD's this season. With a healthy team around him, I think he will exceed people's expectations. That being said, he (obviously) needs a good team around him to win. He has one. I would say we have a 'shot' at it...I mean, that is a very vague question. It is not impossible that we win it all....A long shot, certainly since we aren't even favored to in our division. Might as well root for him to win, since we don't have any better options...I mean what else can we do? |
