Thoughts on Pre-Season Game #1
Well, how would you break it down?
|
Wait till the Youtube guy gets in....

+ means I think a player did better than expected, - means worse, = means no opinion or no change.

It is preseason, and it is the first preseason game, but after going 3-17 over the previous 5 years, it was nice to see the first team actually show up.
|
Not as good or bad as CP will claim it was depending on agenda.
Much better than previous years, but doesn't mean a thing except for potential yet. |
Well my DVR F-ed me over and I didn't get to watch squat.
I need the cliff notes version of what I missed. |
how did Poe look? I only caught the 2nd half on a stream
|
We won and nobody got hurt. I call that perfect for a preseason game
|
First off I don't remember the last time we won our 1st pre-season game? I know it means nothing in the end but nonetheless.
We looked together. We looked organized. We were sharp, great tempo. One botched play by the starters on offense but shit will happen in the pre-season. One thing they said was that Cassel was not allowed to check out of plays under Haley. I speculated that for quite some time and tonight I think I was proven to be correct. |

Cards won't win 3 games this year.
|
It's definately a good sign. Too bad McCluster didn't find the endzone.
|
We looked so much more comfortable than we ever did under Haley. Last season we didn't play starters in the first preseason game IIRC and this season they looked about ready for the regular season.
|
You certainly can tell Todd Haley no longer coaches this team just from this 1 meaningless preseason game

The funny thing is that I didn't check your explanation before I checked your ratings. Initially I thought they were an algebra problem. Then I wanted to know how Matt Cassell + Brady Quinn-stanzi=alex tanney

Our RB depth is a positive.
Our QB depth is going to end up killing us. |
Couple things I saw on offense that are really encouraging.
1. A screen play 2. The TD to Hillis. Hillis actually went downfield and not sideways. |

Stanzi should get 2nd team reps all this week and get the nod after Cassell in the next game.

I'd like to see Cassel hit a wide receiver who will be starting for us at some point.
Our defense is going to rape faces, and I am gonna have to make another video. |

Primarily, I'm very pleased. First decent preseason game they've played in years.

What's going to happen to Breaston? With Bowe back and Baldwin working on the otherside.....does Breaston and McCluster split the slot reps?

Breaston will likely go to the slot for the most part, with him going outside some as well.

I really liked what I saw with our RB's. Its a huge improvement over last year.
|
Clay's pissed Cassel went to the open receiver....LMAO who'd a thunk????
|
So, he gets open against a 1st team defense, but the yards don't count. Gold Jerry.

Granted, it was a very nice throw. This offense is not going to work if Dexter, or any slot receiver, is getting all the catches. We heard about Baldwin The God ****er for weeks now and there was not shit to see tonight. |

Things will be difference when Bowe is back and Dexter is the #4 wideout. |
I wonder if Romeo will take the gang to any T-Pain concerts in training camp this year?

Cassel looked much better than I expected. Call me cautiously pessimistic.
McCluster... look, it's no secret. I love the guy. I think he's a blast to watch. I know he's not the best on the field, but he adds a lot of dimension and I think he gets treated too harshly around here. I though he looked great. Our running game is going to be the best in the league if everyone stays healthy. Our O-Line looks every bit as good as expected, and maybe even a little better in places. Defense is a beast. But... it's only one preseason game. We'll see if they can keep it going. I just want to see consistency and smart, aggressive play. I have a good feeling about the season. |

Encouraged by the one impressive throw he made. |

The Chiefs' running game and defense looked sharp. Cassel looked like the best QB on the Chiefs roster by a wide margin. Woulda liked to see Baldwin get more balls thrown his way....
And the Cardinals are absolutely awful. They might be picking #1 or #2 next year. |
Cassel goes 5-6 for like 64 yards and a TD and Clay still finds room to bitch....
I love ya, Clay...keep it up |

CP doesn't like a pick they'll discredit everything he does. Like it it's defense to the death.
|
Did we beat the Cardinals worse than the Saints?

Dex can be the #4, he is still going get his plays in and make them count. I want to see the best on the field. So far Breaston didn't catch a big drop in the bucket to set up a TD from the 5. |

It's only one meaningless preseason game, but can we please give Cassel some props. It changes nothing, but he played a hell of a game all the way around. Certainly exceeded my expectations. Now the question is, can he keep it up? |
Thank you for replacing Thomas Jones and Jackie Battle!

Winston is really gonna help beast up the right side of our line. Which is something that we haven't had since John Tait. Hillis...what can you say? The guy is a beast. Having Charles, Hillis, and Gray...that's a lot of RB firepower. We should be a top 5 rushing team. I don't think I'm being too much of a homer in thinking that. |
Mother ****ers jiizz over Manning going 4-7 for 44 yards and a pick and still want to bash on Cassel for going 5-6 for 64 and a TD.
|
My initial thought -- avoid game threads.
Bunch of annoying pieces of shit in tonight's thread. That's all. |
The deeper throw on the corner to Dexter was a really nice throw. Thought he looked pretty sharp and had a good grasp of the offense.
We will have to wait and see tho. Defenses are gonna get exotic. We are gonna need him to make a play against an exotic Steeler coverage or Ravens crazy passrush. That's when I'll judge. |

I'll say it again, the biggest improvment you will see out of Cassel this year is he is now able to check out of plays. They said tonight more than once that under Haley he was not allowed to do so.
|
It was nice to see Cam Sheffield in on some action. He adds good depth to the charts.
|
Considering a year ago we lost 25-0 to the Bucs in the first preseason game, I'd say it's improvement. It's just preseason but you can see a prepared team.
|
Oh, another encouraging sign, the TD to Hillis was a hot route adjust to a blitz
