Tough evening. Prayers please

On the way home from work, I was first on scene of a auto vs motorcycle head on. Motorcycle had a twenty something male rider and his 10ish year old little brother. Kid flew into a ditch and guy was in the street bleeding from his rear waist and arm. Both had helmets. Kid was pretty skinned up and I applied pressure to the riders wounds. Shooke up. Ambulance came five or six mins later. I don't know these guys but I have a ten year old boy so it hit home. The boy had baseball pants on and there is a batting cage up the street. My son and I go there all the time. Anyhow, prayers to these guys

Sorry to hear man. I was in a similar situation a couple years back - we came upon a guy who had lost traction and flown through the air, losing a leg on a road sign in the process - but that doesn't sound as bad as yours.

My guy lived, though, so I hope that the kid and his dad end up being OK.

Believe me, I understand. Running across a scene like that will shake a fellow up for a while.
Prayers to the unknowns and best wishes to you.

Ace Gunner 08-22-2012 05:10 PM

good job

Phobia 08-22-2012 05:12 PM

Yeah - that sucks. Thanks for stopping to help. I don't. It ruins me for days/weeks - PTSD shit.

BigMeatballDave 08-22-2012 05:17 PM

I've never been in this position before.

I don't think I would handle it well.

BoneKrusher 08-22-2012 05:19 PM

wow i know the feeling, Been There, Done That.
Prayers sent.

This is actually a lie. I stopped for an idiot biker a few weeks ago after he slid about 100 feet and stopped at a tree. But there were already a dozen people there and I was just in the way so I got back in and rolled off.

Canofbier 08-22-2012 05:20 PM

It's been said but you're a good man for stopping to help. I'm a 20-something with a 10-year-old little brother who just started playing baseball (we played catch together quite a bit when I was home), so I can say that it hits close to home for me too. I hope that they're okay.

hey man, is the guy in your avatar the dude from Silence of The Lambs?

if not, it sure looks like him.

bevischief 08-22-2012 05:36 PM

Prayers sent. I have been through this about 3 times times I was still in grade school. The only times I had to go see the Principal's office.

I believe his name in that movie was Tucker.

And good on you for stopping to give a hand, tooge. You'll have a nice karmic paycheck on the way sometime soon.

Tough sounding situation. Sounds like you handled it well though!

Buehler445 08-22-2012 08:34 PM

That's tough man. Glad you were able to keep your head and help.

Rain Man 08-22-2012 08:46 PM

Nice work. Hopefully everyone's injuries are only temporary.

Bump 08-22-2012 09:02 PM

nice of you to stop and help. I hope they don't sue you.

But that's why I don't ride motorcycles.

Lumpy 08-22-2012 09:12 PM

Damn, that's horrible. :( I hope they're ok. Nice work w/ helping them until the EMT's got there.

You'd be surprised what you can learn to live with.

My first day of residency as a Respiratory Therapist at a level 1 tramua center a guy had tried to commit suicide by placing a sawed off shotgun under his chin. He pulled both barrells but it only blew off the front part of his face. He had no chin, mouth and nose, most of his cheeks was gone. We put the tube down his throat by looking at where the air is bubbling up through the red mass of goo where his face use to be.

We have a major car accident come in at the same time. They didn't expect the guy to live so they put the noobie RT resident bagging the guy for two hours to keep him alive until he died momentarily. They brought in his family to say goodbye etc. He ended up living after a couple of months in ICU.

That's awful. Hope they'll be OK. Good for you for helping out.
