Kansas Citian behind ‘Glass must go’ ad in Star
Awesome! This guy speaks for alot of us!
http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/22...lass-must.html Last month, Joseph Accurso and buddies from his college days were playing poker, talking about another lost Royals season and wondering whether there was a way to express their anger over the lack of progress under owner David Glass. Yes, they decided. Take it to the people. Accurso bought a half-page ad in today’s editions of The Star to present a letter to Glass, imploring him to sell the team. “I’m a lifelong Kansas City guy, who like a lot of people loves the Royals,” said Accurso, 37, a commercial real-estate broker. “My buddies and I were tired of complaining about it and decided to do something.” Accurso created a website, no-more-glass.com to solicit donations for the newspaper space, and more than 150 people contributed $5,100, sending anywhere from $5 to $250. The seven-paragraph letter opens by thanking Glass for buying the team in 2000. It ends with a plea. “By any measure when accounting for wins and losses, the records will show the fans have rolled up their sleeves, in the only way Kansas Citians know how, and met our commitments to the franchise we love. There is no measure that can support the same sentiment for your records. It’s time to win again, Mr. Glass. I implore you, Mr. Glass, to sell the team immediately, enjoy the rest of your days with your family without the burden of team ownership, and accept our thanks for keeping the team in Kansas City.” The Royals say their mission has never changed. “We love our fans, and they’ve backed us in difficult times,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals senior vice president for business operations. “If anybody out there believes we have motives other than to bring a championship here, they’re mistaken. “Nobody wants it more than our chairman (Glass) and (general manager) Dayton Moore. There is no lack of commitment. It’s sad there are those who want to spin it differently.” Accurso, who said he attends a couple of games a year and watches them all on television, said he’s not sure what to expect from the grass-roots campaign. “I’m not naďve enough to think I can write a letter, Glass will read it and say, ‘I should sell the team,’ ” Accurso said. “But I felt like, ‘Can I take some initiative and at least get a conversation started?’ ” The recent run of Royals success — a 13-8 August record — didn’t deter Accurso. “The Royals tend to play better at the end of the year and give everybody hope for the next season,” said Accurso, who was 10 when the 1985 World Series title was the Royals’ last postseason appearance. “I guess after 27 years, I’ve earned the right to be a little cynical.” |
Amen !
When you don't play/pay to win you dishonestly undermine the fan base who make the owner/players wealthy knowing full well you aren't competing to win. Glass has got to go plain and simple.;) |
I'm not so sure that selling the team would keep it here in KC....

How does Mark Cuban feel about KC?
|
Sporting KC owners, who all live here in KC, I have said numerous times they are essentially waiting for a call that the team is for sale.
|
Then stop going to the games. Do not support the team at all.
|
listened to him on the radio last night -- he said it took only a few hours to raise the $ for this. Wally world is on defcon 5:D

Glass seems to be staying out of the way now, and the roster has dramatically improved over the end of the Baird era. They don't have a bargain basement payroll. I don't really see Glass as the problem anymore.
I know that shouting "Wal Mart team!!" prints money from dumb rednecks, but if you want to blame anyone, point the guns of criticism at Dayton Moore. He's had enough time to get this team to the postseason. |

Too bad he'll never be in town to read it. Should pay for the ad in whatever town he spends his time hording his millions.

The farm system is atleast somewhat stocked. I think he is going to enjoy the next few years then sell it.

Glass is a joke, pay minimum wage and max profits is his only philosophy. I bet he doesn't even know the game of baseball. It's a joke and I don't understand at all why anybody would actually go to the games and support this farm team for all of the other teams.

If they can do both equally well the I'm all for it. But if it means SKC suffers at all then I say, no thanks. I'd rather have two sets of owners doing things equally well than one doing it half assed for two teams. |

Look, I get that there are a lot of people in KC and in cities around the country who despise soccer for whatever reason. But to generalize Royals fans as a group of people who have been "downright nasty" about the local soccer club is dishonest. Are there a lot of people in KC that hate soccer and SKC? Yes. Are some of them Royals fans? Probably. But then, they are probably also Chiefs, Jayhawks, Tigers, etc. fans as well. |
Royals fan under 40 and SKC guy are pretty much the same guy.
|
SKC isn't a big enough deal for most Royals fans to give a crap.

Interesting. Not one link to an article or site about how "nasty" Royals fans are towards SKC. |

A number of times I've posted on SKC articles on the KC Star. Less now than last year as I think they've realized how ridiculous they look defending perpetual losers and saying a successful franchise sucks. |
Hopefully if they get the Royals they will dump the D level sport that is skc. Close it, dump it and fill the stadium with cement.

I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I think they could and maybe should do it but maybe not for another four or five years. I'm not sure the Royals could or should wait that long. |

We have the Glass family now. I'll take my chances. |

Yeah, they do stupid shit like raise ticket prices after two years which piss off people but it's hard to be mad when they are producing a wining product and are so accessible. Unlike our other teams which routinely raise prices win or lose and are only in town on game days. |

Edit, read further that you are talking out your ass again with no facts. There is a reason why you always see negative responses: your viewpoints are beyond reality and most people dislike you for it. |

Whatever, he's on board because he knows it's where the growth is. The average age of a Chiefs season ticket holder is 42.something. The average age of the SKC season ticket holder is 29.something. I bet the Royals STH would be even older than the Chiefs. Yes, the money lies with the older season ticket base but the future growth lies with the younger one. FWIW, SKC does not need the Royals to bring credibility to it in any way shape or form. They've been honored worldwide for their management, facililty and work on the field. If anything, SKC ownership brings the Royals some measure of credibility and, most importantly what has been sorely lacking for a LONG time, POSSIBILITY. |

If the Royals play their cards right, maybe they will end up with a .001 viewer marketshare on GoalTV for their championship

WTF? Glass is a WalMart guy, why would he spend more money? It's a business, and being a WalMart guy, I doubt he lets his heart get in his business. |

Intentional or not, the last sentence comes off a little snarky to me. Of course, other than giving away free t-shirts, the Royals have discovered new and interesting ways to fail PR. |

If SKC owners are the bestest on earth, then what’s with the worry that they will suddenly leave SKC in the dust if they buy the Royals?
And I have yet to see any proof or even backing up the statement that Royals fans have been “nasty” to SKC. The only thing I heard after that was “people on the radio didn’t want to talk about soccer.” And what in the f**k does this topic have to do with soccer anyway? |
Hay guyz does Mark Cuban want to buy the Royals?
|
The Glass family doesn't measure "winning" in terms of baseball wins and losses.
The measure winning in terms of "dollars." Like buying a team for less than $100 million, and then if they DO sell it, sell for $400 million. That's a world series win in Wally World. |
