BRENTWOOD, Md. -

Fox 5 has obtained surveillance video of a February 3rd incident involving a Prince George's County police officer that seems to dispute his story about why his gun discharged.

A Cottage City 19-year-old spent nearly 4 months in jail after Corporal Donald Taylor claimed Ryan Dorm assaulted him and the gun went off as Taylor struggled with him. The surveillance video is from a business on Perry Street near Rhode Island Avenue in the Brentwood area. Attorney Jimmy Bell, who represents Dorm, says the video shows Taylor out-and-out "lied" when he wrote up a report supporting assault charges against his client.

The incident started when Dorm and a friend say they went to the "Lowest Price" gas station convenience store late that night to buy snacks. Dorm says his friend was wearing a ski mask because it was cold, but two police officers thought he looked suspicious and were going to rob the store. Ryan says he wanted to avoid any trouble, so he left.. But he says Taylor and a second officer followed him. The video shows Dorm being approached from behind, then smacked in the head with a gun. The video shows the flash from the gun as Dorm was being struck.

Taylor has been indicted and faces a trial in November. Bell has filed a $10 million dollar civil lawsuit in the case.

Its sickening.

Nightfyre 09-04-2012 03:15 PM

Two extremely obvious points:
1) the cop should not have lied.
2) The whole story is not being represented here.

I agree. But you never lie on a report is far and beyond the most important.

BigMeatballDave 09-04-2012 03:22 PM

Dude is going to get PAID.

bishop_74 09-04-2012 03:24 PM

So he had a ski mask AND a bag?

Johnny Vegas 09-04-2012 03:25 PM

To lie and protect themselves

jd1020 09-04-2012 03:28 PM

Cop just lost one of the hardest jobs to lose.

I'm curious as to why he got cold feet after reaching the gas station when you claim you were just going to buy snacks. Me thinks his friend with the ski mask was looking to do more than buy skittles.

New World Order 09-04-2012 03:33 PM

I support the cop, doesn't sound like the 19 year old was doing anything constructive

Why did the cop lie? How could that possibly help the situation?

He didn't know there was a security camera recording what happened. He thought he could get away with it. He did for quite a while, too.

Damn... the kid wasnt even wearing a hoodie. If he had it would have been justifie but definitely not with a ski mask.

blaise 09-04-2012 05:05 PM

Wearing a ski mask to a convenience store? Really. That's pretty high up on the stupid scale.

petegz28 09-04-2012 05:20 PM

Cop is a total ****ing moron. Regardless of what may have happened before the kid stopped and turned...no threatening moves then the cop clocks him with his gun while he had his finger on the trigger. The cop is lucky as hell he didn't kill that kid.

I'm not sure why the cop felt he had to lie. I didn't see him do anything wrong in the video. I have to assume that the officer was telling the guy to get on the ground, and the guy didn't cooperate.

I think the officer gets fired, but I don't know that the guy gets a dime. He was about to rob the convenience store and got pistol whipped. Sounds like he got off easy to me.

How about the bag/pillowcase thing he was carrying? Probably just needed someplace to keep his ski mask in case it got too hot.

Huh?

If the cop wanted to stop him, he should have brought his tazer, or just tackled him.

Pistol whipping is okay?

The pig lied because he knew he ****ed up.

So it's not common for people to wear ski masks in Feb in the NE part of the USA?

CoMoChief 09-04-2012 07:05 PM

What's the story that lead up to that moment?

What was the cops original story and why would he have to lie to anyone about what really happened, unless the cop knew he had done something wrong?

It's pretty ****ing ignorant to go into a convenience store at night with a ski mask, and expect people to believe a story that you were just there to buy some ****in snacks? I mean were they just higher and dumber than **** at the time?

It was February and it could have been cold. Who knows?

Even IF that dude was going to rob the store, it does not excuse the pig for his actions.

Frazod 09-04-2012 07:18 PM

That's pretty indefensible. Reminded me of Costner clubbing the drunk cowboys over the head in Wyatt Earp.

Don't tell them that! Let them revel in idiocy. Funnier that way.

petegz28 09-04-2012 08:08 PM

As someone who worked in a convenience\liquor store for several years I will say that if someone came in with a ski mask on the first thing I did was tell them to take it off when they hit the door with my hand on my firearm while doing so. Seeing as the kid who got popped was carrying a sack or some sort it does lend itself to a possible robbery but if they didn't do anything it's rather hard to justify whacking him upside the head with a pistol for nothing more than looking suspicous.

I am guessing as the story states the kid left because he didn't want any trouble that they saw the cops or got cold feet and tried to bail.

Oh i agree about the cop. The fact that he lied about what had happened only proves that he was trying to cover his ass for the excessive force he used.

petegz28 09-04-2012 08:13 PM

I almost blew the head off of a guy I went to school with when he came into the store with a mask (bandana) over his face on halloween. We had a sign up that said no masks allowed on and all I saw was a guy walk by the window and duck down real quick with a blue bandana on his face, when he hit the door my firearm was drawn and I was screaming at him to hit the floor and take the mask off. He was just trying to pull a joke on me but he almost ended up losing his life over it.

Point is, cold or not, when you enter a convenience store, especially late at night, the first thing you need to do is make a move to remove the mask, otherwise you could wind up shot.

Gravedigger 09-04-2012 10:43 PM

The cop is an idiot, as is the case with many cops out there. I don't hate cops but some of the people they get to do that job have no business being on the force in the first place. I personally believe that just like with any other job when you need people you bend the hiring process a little and say "Oh well that's not so bad." Or "We can work around that." It shows a complete lack of judgement on the city's part considering these guys are given polygraph tests and psychiatric evaluations. Is there a "No Officer Left Behind" program that was made as well?

Ace Gunner 09-04-2012 11:26 PM

Cops have "black radar". You'd never see this kind of recklessness if the boys were white.

Yep. White kids can walk into a convenience store at night in a ski mask carrying an empty pillowcase and turn around and leave when they see a cop, and nobody would think twice.

The cop ****ed up when he lied, but the dude deserved worse than a pistol whipping.

I wonder what color Ferrari the kid is going to get.

FRCDFED 09-05-2012 09:22 AM

It sounded like the commentary stated that police grabbed his friend but this guy tried to walk away. I would suspect the police were giving orders to get on the ground and this guy (carrying the pillowcase or bag) had second thoughts about their plan and decided to engage in passive resistance. The bottom line is that if police are giving orders and you don't obey.......then you are resisting and will be treated as a potential threat. Clearly, a 10 second video clip does not tell the entire story. The accidental discharge was unfortunate and the aggressor and media are trying to take the focus off of the fact that the police most likely just thwarted a robbery. More often than not those who are about to commit a robbery are armed in some fashion and police have to consider all potential threats until they know otherwise.

Why didn't he use a taser or just try to tackle him?
The kid wasn't hostile, so there was no reason for the pig to respond that violently.

And you are leaving out one important fact: THE COP LIED. So it's obvious that he knew he ****ed up.

BigMeatballDave 09-05-2012 09:48 AM

LMAO The gun discharging was unfortunate?

I'd have no problem with this had the cop pulled a Terry Tate on him.

He'd still have his job and would not be going to trial.
