Coach: Bills never intended to hurt Berry last season
By ADAM TEICHER The Kansas City Star Buffalo coach Chan Gailey said the Bills didn’t intend to injure Chiefs safety Eric Berry in last year’s game between the teams. Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson leveled Berry with a cut block at the knees on one of the first plays of last year’s game, which was the season opener. The result was a torn ACL that ended Berry’s season. Berry later tweeted that he thought the Bills were out to get him, though he subsequently said he was only joking. The Chiefs and Bills play one another again Sunday in Buffalo. “I hate he feels that way because there was never any intention,’’ Gailey said Wednesday. “We never talked about it. It was never even discussed. Our guys were just hustling and trying to make blocks. It was unfortunate it happened. He’s a great player and I’m glad to see him back on the field.’’ Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said he believed Berry was over the incident. “I know Eric has mentioned that last year, during the offseason, I think it was,’’ Crennel said. “He hasn’t mentioned anything this year other than trying to win the game. “I don’t think Eric has difficulty going up against anybody. He enjoys the game. He wants to play the game and he wants to play it at a high level.’’ Meanwhile, outside linebacker Tamba Hali will return to practice Wednesday. He didn’t play in the Chiefs’ season-opening loss to Atlanta because he was serving a one-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. “I hope I see the effort he gives on every play (and) what he brings to the table as far as pass rush goes,’’ Crennel said. “I hope he hasn’t forgotten anything and that he can step right in and move right along. “The way he approaches the game and the way he plays down in and down out, that impacts the guys around him. They want to play up to the level he plays. When you get guys playing up to the level that he plays, then you can lift the team.’’ |
Berry will not intend to hurt Johnson this Sunday, either.

I hope Berry is out for blood. I've been looking forward to this from the moment I saw the schedule.

Oh no, don't try and reneg now, bitch. We're coming for that ass!

If I was Stevie Johnson I'd be telling QB not to throw me anything over the middle !
|
Really...what else is Chan supposed to say?
|
I don't care what is said on their end.
Eric & several other Chiefs better be out for revenge. That was maybe the dirtiest, cheapest shot I've ever seen. No getting off the hook now Stevie. Payback can be a b!t#h. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lSPNQ82Sq4E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Judge for yourself. Hit was away from the ball by a bunch.

If it were the regular refs, I imagine that they would be watching extra close to make sure there were no retaliations on Johnson. However, with the scab refs - who knows?
|
I hope Berry goes all Ronnie Lott on Stevie's ass.
|
I want to see ****ing blood running. From anything in a white helmet.
This is the only game we need to win this year. |

Fines be damned. |
Kill the head the body will die, I want Stevie's head running sideways.
|
Cut blocks should be outlawed.
|
Don't give a **** what he intended to do.
I just hope for once the Chiefs will man up and kick some ass instead of being a bunch of pussies. No, i don't expect anyone to take Stevie Johnson's knee out. I do hope they knock the holy **** outa him though. When he crosses over the middle they should waste him even if they get a penalty. |

this is where we need Shaun smith, so he can do a little ball grabbing under the pile to good ole Stevie

Half of those hits are BS anyways with the WR crouching himself down to brace for the hit. What do you know? Helmet to helmet. |

Did you see any retaliation for the Shawne Merriman hit on Priest? The Robert Geathers hit on Trent Green? With free agency and the players union, it is more like a fraternity now, as the guy may be your team mate soon. With the picks that Atlanta was running, I am surprised there weren't a couple more injuries Sunday. |

If Stevie Johnson can add two and two on Monday morning...mission failure. |
Spin it baby.
|
Berry will get his.
I just hope he doesn't get a stupid personal foul call that extends a drive. |

Berry gives me hope. The way he absolutely destroyed Brandon Lloyd here in Arrowhead and then mocked him with his own taunt was beautiful to see. It was clear Berry remembered the beating the Chiefs had in Denver earlier that season, and he wasn't going to allow history to repeat itself.
Lloyd was blanketed for the rest of that game. |

it's not on until players on the Chiefs decide to get pissed and do something about it. We haven't stood up for ourselves for years Hell, nobody ever did shit about the Trent Green hit and he was supposedly liked by everyone. The Royals don't do it either |

I hope Stevie suffers something lingering, like a hamstring. It will bug him all season long and he'll get depressed for the shitty season he put up. In the offseason he'll go to Africa to get away from it all and clear his head.
Like a reerun, he'll encounter a pool of hippos... |
I try not to root for injuries, but I'd be willing to look the other way if Johnson's leg gets snapped in two.

Bills fans blew up my twitter last year when I suggested to Stevie that he dive head first into oncoming traffic since he liked diving at players knees.
I've been harrassing his twitter account all week and Bills fans are again blowing up my twitter. And I thought Canadians were agreeable peace loving people. |
Wow Teicher, thanks for throwing a bucket of water on the fire dickhead...
|
IF there was one hit they need to remove from the game it is the damn cut blocks. Nah, but the injuries that were happening on kick returns from the 30 were a much bigger issue to address. This league..... :shake:
|
Does this article confirm that Tamba was suspended for weed?

First, nobody gives a shit what Teicher thinks, especially the team. And two, if they NEED something like this to get up for the Bills, we're gonna get blown out because they're a bunch of pussies. |

I'm sure they never intended to hurt Montana either.

ROFL The mentions Stevie Johnson gets are cracking me up right now. |
Quote:
Why? I thought you approved of dirty hits and cheap shots? Oh, wait, that's only when it's perpetrated against players you don't like, and not on players on your team? Well then you're a ****ing hypocrite, ain't ya? |
Quote:
You don't understand football then. Forget about the hit on Berry -- there's no real effective way to do alot of backside blocking in football without it. They have no choice but to allow it. |
Quote:
That mediocre Pollard wiped out Brady and the Pats didn't try to decapitate him. He also wiped out Gronk's ankle and I still don't expect the Pats to decapitate him. Football isn't hockey. If you're obviously going after someone, then the fines and suspensions are going to be pretty serious. |
I don't feel this way about a player often, but I wouldn't lose any sleep to see Stevie ****ing Johnson leave the field on a cart.
|
For Berry, it should be personal. For the team, they should remember the ass-flaming they took last year ,at home, and just explode the bills season to hell on Sunday.
|
I am all for "an eye for an eye" especially in football, but this was not a dirty hit.
Already mentioned, but cut blocks are essential to this game. "Hit 'em low, hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast". Berry needs to watch himself. He should have known that block was coming. |
ROFL too late for that! Stevie is about to be out for the entire season and they're doing damage control. NOT GOING TO WORK!

Cheap shots are acceptable.
|
LET THE GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF BUFFALO RUN DEEP IN STEVIE'S RED, RED BLOOD.
|
I'm sure tonya Harding didn't mean to hurt Nancy Kerrigan, either.
I mean, seriously. The pos went helmet first right into Berrys knee...what's the difference between the two scenarios? |
Quote:

It's a bullshit way to block outside the tackle box. Offensive lineman can do it. Guys with a full head of steam diving into someone's legs fr the side is bullshit. Why not block high? Don't be afraid of getting your dick knocked off
|
Eric Berry is a class act.
I bet he makes it a point to shake hands with Stevie Johnson before the game and to tell him "no hard feelings" no matter what he REALLY thinks. Then, every time Stevie goes across the middle he aims for a kill shot on him. "all part of the game, playa" |
Same as in the preseason when some chopped berry on a cutback block. It's not illegal but it's a shitty way to block
|
Quote:
Pollard hits Brady in a similar part of the leg and a new rule gets implemented...same thing happens to a player on defense and they don't care. |
Quote:
Want to make an Eric Berry revenge video so bad. :hail: |

Chiefs are a soft bitch team. They're not going to even look in Stevie's direction except when he's blowing right by Reeves for 40 yards. Crush him or decapitate him? We'll be lucky if they push him out of bounds with any sort of force.
