****in' A! Endeavor just flew over my house!

Unbelievably AWESOME! I remember watching the first Space Shuttle, Enterprise, on TV during it's maiden voyage.

Can't wait for the next phase of space exploration!

BIG_DADDY 09-21-2012 01:18 PM

There isn't going to be any money for future space exploration. Obama already has that money earmarked for celebrating Islam and apologizing for our bad behavior.

Christ, man. Can't anything be non-political once in a while?

DaFace 09-21-2012 01:19 PM

As for the OP, that's pretty cool. My ex-uncle posted a pic on FB of it flying by his office building in Houston. That'd be pretty neat to see.

Ace Gunner 09-21-2012 01:20 PM

well shit. I'm in Burbank kikin it. missed it.

The Franchise 09-21-2012 01:21 PM

There was a rumor that it was going to be re-fueling over here at the Air Base. I knew it was going to be flying over Sacramento today at 9:30 though.

DaneMcCloud 09-21-2012 01:22 PM

It was awesome. They're covering it on the local news.

Ace Gunner 09-21-2012 01:28 PM

oh holy hell, they flew at low altitude!

It's still total bullshit that Houston was denied any of the retired shuttles.

(And to add insult to insult, they landed Wednesday and had the Texas state flag upside down...)

Yeah, but you mentioned first voyage. Enterprise only did glide and a few other tests. She never went into orbit or "lifted-off."

Well, from my perspective, this was the same exact thing: The Endeavor was riding on the back of a jumbo jet.

I was in a meeting in a conference room overlooking Central Park when the Enterprise flew right by us a few months ago, and the room just fell silent as we all stared out the window.

Mesmerizing, isn't it?

I had a friend that moved to Florida (West Palm Beach) back in the early 90's. He called me late in LA one night when because the Space Shuttle had just launched from the Cape. He was in awe and was SO pumped up at what he saw that we ended up talking for hours.

It's a pretty indescribable feeling to see this firsthand, as opposed to on the TV.

But, are you sure that's what it was, Mr. DaneMcCloud?

That isn't an escort, per se. Once it landed at LAX, Endeavour's cargo bay was opened and 11,518 illegals were inside.

Well, we used to be sanguine about things like this around here.

But this past summer we were visited by one of the world's pre-eminent minds who informed us that phenomena of this nature can break apart in mid-air at any moment.

We were all on the 5th floor roof of the parking garage at work near ABC7 Burbank and got a prime flyover. We were happy to see it at all, but then it banked and we got the greatest look! It looked as close to me as the view in the Hollywood picture. So cool. People on roofs cheering.

Yeah, it was an amazing feeling and I guess Griffith Park was packed! We were fortunate to see it from our home.
