Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

*EDIT* I found the podcasts where they talk about this. It starts at about 15:10.

http://www.610sports.com/topic/play_...udioId=6054578

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

Quote:

He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.
Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

finally a glimmer of hope, not saying Quinn will win games and be a FQB but he can't be any worse than what we've been watching for 3 years plus.

If Quinn is "decent" then we try our hardest to get the best QB possible including trading up.
If Quinn does "amazing" then we only draft a QB if one falls to us at our spot. We do not trade up for one.

Brady Quinn is better than Cassel.

I'd love to see the Chiefs give Quinn a shot. Even if it's not better we already have a full sample pool of what Castle is capable of at this point. Let that ass clown march off to the bank with his middle finger in the air and get him the **** out of town.

You won the power ball ass hole, now leave.

The Franchise 09-28-2012 09:11 AM

Even if Quinn has a big year.....we still need to draft a QB in the 1st round. Let him sit for a year and then open up the competition the next year. At the very least....Quinn would be a good #2 QB if he loses the competition.

Don't think anyone is expecting miracles but it would be nice to see a QB that could look past his primary reviver as opposed to a deer stuck in the headlights.

People are just desparate to get rid of Cassel. Remember people going nuts when Cassel was out for the year and Palko came in?

So quickly that people forget how bad Quinn was in preseason.

He was both the worst of what we'd expect and at the same time was oddly able to hit the short routes in clutch time.

So...I'd grade him a C-....

Quinn is a lot better than Tyler palko. Not even in the same ballpark. Tyler palko would barely make a CFL roster

This.

He's also inaccurate.

He's also bad about locking on to a WR.

So at at worst we have a stronger armed guy with better mobility locking on to a target before the checkdown.

Who cares!!!!! This does not mean we are Superbowl bound or even playoff bound.

1st round QB that has been on the bench for the vast majority of his career. You don't call that a bust?

Put it like this.... Jamarcus Russell had more yards in one year than Quinn has in his career. Flip that any way you want, that's pathetic.

Chiefs Pantalones 09-28-2012 09:52 AM

I knew it would only be a matter of time. Quinn was about to come in before Charles' 91 yard TD run. He was on the sideline with his helmet on then Charles went all Katrina on New Orleans thus momentarily saving Cassel from the inevitable. It's coming. They can't hide Casse's suckage anymore.

This is all that it really means. And even that is somewhat of a stretch. It could simply just be a motivational tactic. We'll see.

And if Quinn does get the start at some point, i highly doubt our offense will be any better, but it will at least mean the Cassel era is officially over.

To the casual observer, you appear meek and mild, Mr. mr. tegu. But it appears that, in reality, you can leap conclusions in a single bound.

Why would Crennel choose this moment in time to consider replacing Doofus #1 with Doofus #2? I mean, we just won a game.

This has been discussed tons of ****ing times. Injuries, 1st round draft picks and Eric Mangini have ****ed Quinn's career. Has the dude played lights out? No. But it's not like he went in and started 32 games in his career and never threw a TD.
