favorite war movie?

im sure this has been covered butt****it. For me its Black Hawk Down. I know some of you are gonna say wwhhhaaaa. I had an uncle that was in the conflict and not only that but the book of the real story was sick... I understand Josh Hartnett's lame ass was the lead character but it was still a badass and imo one of the most UNDERAPPRECIATED war movies of all time.. what do ya say?

FlaChief58 09-29-2012 10:10 PM

Full metal jacket

I love Full Metal Jacket, but this isn't even a close call:

The Longest Day.

Wayne, Mitchum, Fonda, Connery and several more. Easily my favorite war movie, I watch it every Memorial Day.

My favorite war movie is not really a movie. It's a documentary called, Baker Boys: Inside the surge. It's has a very personal meaning to me.

As far a actual war movie goes. I would have to say little known, 84 Charlie Mopic tops the list.

Yeah it's pretty darned good. Anytime one of the cable stations plays the series back to back I start watching it and can't stop.

Not a movie, But Band of Brothers is hands down the best, IMO. That's one series that I could watch repeatedly without it getting old.

I can't pick just one: Band of Brothers and Stalag 17.

I remember the first time I saw it - walked out of the theater in a daze. Phenomenal film. In contrast, I saw Born on the Fourth of July the next night and was mostly just annoyed by it.

Dayze 09-30-2012 09:23 AM

Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Hamburger Hill
Born on the 4th of July (arguable a war movie)

I forgot about Glory. Excellent damn movie. Absolutely excellent. It's the Saving Private Ryan but in the Civil War

I like the beginning of it. The middle is a bit slow, and the end is interesting. But I could totally understand d the annoyance factor.

Of the first four you listed, I like Hamburger Hill the best. Saving Private Ryan had a great beginning and great ending, but the middle was meh. Never cared for Platoon at all. And Born on the 4th of July just went on too long (of course, when I saw it I was still on active duty, and that's not really going to be a military fan favorite).

I love Heartbreak Ridge, but I don't consider it to be a war movie - more a movie about military life with a battle thrown in at the end.
