Chiefs apparently not worried about over-working Jamaal Charles

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...amaal-charles/

It wasn’t that long ago the Chiefs were wondering if Jamaal Charles was going to be back to his old form.

Now, they seem perfectly willing to pound him into the ground.

Charles had 33 runs and six receptions last week against New Orleans, a startling number for a guy a year removed from ACL surgery.

According to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star, Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel has given no indication he wants to ease up on Charles.

That makes the work load astonishing. The 39 touches were 12 more than his previous career high, five more than anyone else in the league this year, and one that hasn’t been surpassed since 2004.

With Peyton Hillis and Dexter McCluster both hurt, it’s not as if they’re looking to ease up on him, either.

For his part, Charles only said “It doesn’t matter,” when asked about his work load. And Crennel said: “He never came to me to say he needed a break.”

Players probably aren’t going to ask, until it’s too late. It’s the spot where coaches occasionally have to act in something other than their own best interest, and the Chiefs don’t seem interested in that.

The Chiefs ran 100 ****ing plays.

It happens.

In a normal game he won't have even close to that many.

Captain Checkdown lost his #1 receiving option and we have no running game outside of Charles. I see them relying heavily on Charles as he gives us our best chance of winning.

"Over - used last weekend" ???????

This is a reeruno article from those guys. If you watched the RC presser, he talked about this at length saying (paraphrased) he respects Jamaal's ability to monitor his own play time for longevity.

Amazing how a poorly written article can get national attention.

The Chiefs are not going to "Larry Johnson" Charles.

Hopefully, after today, this issue is mote.

He'll get 20-25 touches today.

Draughn in averaging 5.9 yards a carry. Same as Charles. We have a decent #2 option.

Hammock Parties 09-30-2012 10:41 AM

Draughn's yards have mostly come in garbage time. Not convinced he is all that.

He had big time garbage carries against ATL and BUF late in both games.

I don't think he's all that either, but I think he's a solid #2 option.

Well in my hopes for Draughn that garbage time could come useful for his development and experience. Hopefully he can be helpful in the running game.

Now just hope he don't get killed on a swing pass from Cassell.

They're going to bury that poor guy, he'll be toast next year.

Destroying Charles to protect Casshole. Someone needs to pay for this shit

Bump 10-07-2012 12:33 PM

any other QB/coach in the NFL with this much run support would have more than 3 points right now

Otter 10-07-2012 12:35 PM

I wonder who the **** they think they're fooling trying to hide Cassel behind? That loser didn't throw once backed up at our own 30 3-15.

Does this guy have pictures of Pioli blowing a horse?

chiefzilla1501 10-07-2012 12:36 PM

This is actually a good bump.

Giving Charles this many carries is ****ed up. Especially when it's being done to protect the QB. Last week, they ran Charles several times in garbage time. This week, they ran him on long goal line situations and at the "1 minute left to go, let's milk the clock" situation.

It's ****ed up. I'm okay giving Charles more work. But if you're going to do that, you do NOT just piss away his carries on situations where you're playing conservative.

Having Cassel behind center would be like having a one inch pecker. No matter how much you try, you aren't getting anywhere.

It's like hiring Shaq to bone your girlfriend and then acting like you're the one keeping your girlfriend satisfied.

And then having Scott Pioli call your girlfriend with statistics about how you kept her satisfied.

suzzer99 10-07-2012 12:51 PM

This is Herm Edwards running Larry Johnson into the ground all over again. Romeo is playing like this is the Super Bowl, scared of losing his job. And he doesn't give a crap if he runs Charles into the ground. This sucks.

It's not even just protecting his job.

I'm wondering why he was carrying the ball last weekend several times in a blowout with 2 minutes left to play.

FAX 10-07-2012 02:11 PM

It's bad, bad, bad.

You have other RBs on the roster for a reason.

I hate to see them waste Jamaal propping up that piece of garbage Cassel ... which is exactly what they're doing.

Rasputin 10-07-2012 03:54 PM

pffft & we can't cheer for Cassell leaving the game from injury? How about when he get's our guys killed it's ok for him to do that? Or making our best running back toke the ball as much as JC had too just because of no trust from the Coaching staff. I feel for you Jamaall & good game.

Priest31kc 10-07-2012 04:02 PM

I seriously hope Charles gets like 15 carries max next week. This season is over. Get Pussy ass Hillis back and give him the ball. Shit, Gray looked great back there and Draughn was decent as well.

Season is over, lets not kill our best player coming off a torn ACL. We've seen what overuse does to running backs....
