Getting close to done

Been a Chiefs fan since they were the Texans. And I've about had it. Was even a columnist for their website for about 5 years during the Peterson days. But this is just getting ridiculous. My vote is get rid of Pioli and Romeo. Make a bold move and get Cowher in there as coach and g.m. Now. I truly think that the Hunts are not in this just to make money. They want to win, but they just don't know how to make it happen. Reminds me of the Fords in Detroit. Good intentions. Bad instincts. The Chiefs need a proven leader and winner. They have neither in the front office or on the sideline. Something has to give or there will be a lot of us who say enough is enough. And we find another team to which we give our passion as fans.

You're why I'm here. You mentioned CP in one of your columns back in the day and that's how I found this place.

Now you owe everyone an apology. Oh and me too.

RealSNR 10-01-2012 01:29 PM

Your columns on kcchiefs.com were great back in the day until Chiefs Planet destroyed my soul and will to live.

Start writing again. CP will hire you for $1.00. Blast this front office with all you're worth.

I feel your pain old-timer. Maybe not the knee stuff, but you know what I mean.

I tend to agree with your assessment of the Hunts. My take on Lamar is that he was no dummy and was ACUTELY aware of his public persona as a gentleman and a real nice, real rich guy. That was a contributing reason to why he stayed so loyal to his Chiefs employees for so long.

The jury is still out on CK, but my sense is that he would like to accomplish something he can call his own. That was the driver behind firing Carl and hiring Dr. Evil. As fans, our problem is that he will not act rashly and weigh the pros and cons until we are blue in the ass.

So take heart, old-timer, it's very possible that CK will again act forcefully to right the ship. It makes no sense whatsoever that he would take measures to hire Dr. Evil in order to bring us a championship simply to allow things to devolve even further.

Jesus, Cowher. If what we're going through right now is the death of a thousand cuts, that would be jumping into a pool of alcohol after.

Boise_Chief 10-01-2012 01:43 PM

Jim,

It really helps to not give a crap. I spent half the game laughing yesterday. My wife and I both prefer it to throwing things and yelling.
.
Pm me if you ever want to get together to have a beer and commiserate. I've tried in the past to have a chiefs planet meet up but it's never worked out and now I think there are only 3 active guys from our area.

HemiEd 10-01-2012 02:30 PM

Please say no to old retreads like Cowher. Just stop. "The jaw" was fortunate to get one SB, and he is just Marty 2.0 which is a big improvement, granted, over the current situation. Similar to Quinn over Cassel.

But if they insist on hiring a retread, after hamstringing the young guy Haley, I vote for Gruden if you could get him to KC.

Chiefspants 10-01-2012 02:37 PM

There's a reason no head coach has ever won a super bowl with two different teams.

No retreads.

suds79 10-01-2012 02:40 PM

Cowher? Still? Does the man have to be dead for us to realize that he's never coaching again? Come on.

Would you leave the cushey TV gig to go back in the cutthroat, 18 hour days of being a a HC?... Neither would I.

If Mike Shanahan had come to KC and insisted on trading the entire draft for RG 3, I would have taken it in a heartbeat...

sometimes retreads aren't all bad.

Not me. And I could never find out, even though I was writing for the Chiefs at the time. Bob Moore swore it wasn't him. But really have no idea.

It was Carl Peterson.

I was close to done 5 years ago. Now the Chiefs are like that old girlfriend that I think about occasionally, but have absolutely no interest in ever being involved with again.

I have no problem with how Pioli is buidling this team EXCEPT for the QB position. No coach/team/owner/whatever is worth a damn if they don't address the biggest team need. Clark just needs to tell Pioli that he's going to go out and trade up or do whatever the hell else he needs to do to pull in a franchise QB. Hell, do you think the Redskins are happy they have RGIII right now? How about Luck on the Colts? Go out and try damnit. The pieces are in place for this to be a good team but we won't win shit with this QB. I think Romeo knows it and I think Pioli knows it too. He just can't pull the trigger on trading up as far as we need to so we can make it happen. That's the ultimatum this year that Clark needs to make.

For a Head coach, give me a Harbaugh/Tomlin type. Young and fired up but smart. I thought Haley could be that coach but he couldn't control his emotions. He'd shoot you in the head and rip out your heart if you didn't supersize his fries correctly. It just doesn't work. Romeo is too laid back and simply can't handle the HC and DC gig. He can't, he just misses too many of the small things.

I have Sunday Ticket my first game of the day will not be the Keystone Chiefs at this point.

boogblaster 10-01-2012 06:10 PM

been a fan since the early 60s myself .. and yes its hard to watch anymore ,,,,,

DonInDenver 10-01-2012 06:47 PM

I watch them when they are on out here in Denver, which means not very often. I have followed this team since their one and only SB victory year. I, like others here watch and laugh, I have grown past the point of having any feeling for this team. I spend no money on them whatsoever, I invest no emotional ties either. I am a casual fan now. That is the only way I can remain a fan. If I invest anything more, it just get's plowed under like this year's wheat crop after harvest.

I live in Southern Idaho and would be up for a little get together sometime. If I was married to a woman that disappointed me and turned her back on me like this team has in the last 20 some years, I would divorce her ass. Yet I keep rooting for this team year after year with the hope of better things to come.

I'm there as well. I'm almost done and I've spent a lifetime following this team...However, I'm not a fan of the GM / HC dual role.

Were you a fan when they lost in the Series? Just curious...broke my heart when that happened.

Long suffering Chiefs and Royals fan here (but at least the local team is pretty good this year...so my football season isn't totally lost)

dj56dt58 10-02-2012 12:29 PM

You haven't heard? The Chiefs actually moved back to Texas and are the Texans again. We are undefeated bitches!

Chief Faithful 10-02-2012 01:08 PM

First time I can remember since the Texans moved to KC turning off the game after the 1s QTR and leaving it off. I've seen enough of Cassel. This team does not believe in its QB.

whoman69 10-02-2012 01:09 PM

Its going to take a different mindset, Jim. I loved your stuff on the website BTW. These days you have to expect the Chiefs will suck and hope they can surprise you. I do have to question how its not even being considered seriously to replace Cassel. That tells me the team is holding onto some demented vision that they can still compete this year. IMO its over. The Chiefs need to look at the future and see what they have. If they have a guy like Cassel that definitely is not the future, why is he still here? If you start another QB I guarantee it will bring more people into the stadium than trying to hold onto a lost season.

I have to give it up for Shanahan, he always makes sure his team has a QB. If he misses on one he is not afraid to try and try again until he gets a good one.

Sac up. You were able to enjoy the one Superbowl this team won.
I have only a few playoff games to look back on.
