Romeo says Quinn might get some game snaps

Brady Quinn poised for more Kansas City Chiefs snaps By Gregg Rosenthal Around The League editor Published: Oct. 1, 2012 at 08:07 p.m. Updated: Oct. 1, 2012 at 09:28 p.m. Teammates of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel reportedly are losing confidence in him following another rocky outing in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers. The coaching staff might not be far behind. Coach Romeo Crennel admitted Monday that Brady Quinn could pick up some first-team snaps in practice this week. Crennel broached the idea of benching Cassel at some point, even if only for a drive. "You pull him out, put somebody else in, let him settle down and maybe he goes back in," Crennel said. "As a coach, you get a feeling about whether he's making good decisions, poor decisions ... those kind of things all kind of play into it." Cassel has 10 turnovers on the season, so he has made a lot of poor decisions. Cassel is not the type of playmaker, like Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who can make up for many mistakes. "At some point, as a coach, you go through and you see what's happening in the game and how a guy is reacting and how he's responding to what's happening in the game," Crennel said. "If you feel he's inept, constantly making poor decisions, bad choices, then that's when you move on from him and give someone else a chance." The Chiefs' home crowd chanted for No. 3 quarterback Ricky Stanzi on Sunday. Crennel can only hope that's the low point of the season. We aren't likely to see Stanzi anytime soon, but it sounds like we're another bad Cassel performance away to getting the Brady Quinn experience. Follow Gregg Rosenthal on Twitter @greggrosenthal. |
To those who were there: Were there really Stanzi chants?

I still believe in Stanzi, but I've always thought his ceiling is Tony Romo.
He will get his shot this year, but not until there are only 3 or 4 games left and all is lost. Hopefully, he doesn't **** up our draft position. Kid got a raw deal in ps. |
Tony Romo sucks.

This might be as good a place as any to mention this ... but I had the misfortune of listening to Roleo's presser today and noticed that he mentioned something unusually interesting during the give-and-take over Cassel's inability to remove a cork from his own ass.
The stuff in the OP was, of course, part of the conversation. But at one point, Gretz started asking about the over-throws and Roleo said something along the lines of, "... you know sometimes a guy will look good in 7 on 7 practice when there isn't a pass rush, you know, but you know when there's a pass rush in the game, you know, the guy might not throw as accurately ... you know ..." It seems to be an admission that Roleo, at least, is aware that Cassel is A) Inaccurate much of the time, and B) Folds under pressure. It only took him about 10 games to figure that out, but hey ... it's progress. FAX |

The one thing worse than leaving Cassel in:
Taking him out and putting him back in. |

We're close to seeing Quinn. Cassel has never looked comfortable or like he has confidence but he looks downright depressed out there. He doesn't believe in himself. Be happy my fellow Chiefs fans, because Cassel's days as starting QB for our Chiefs are numbered...finally. Better late than never, but it's about to end.

Romeo's gonna stroke us but never bring us to completion

Quinn will take snaps on the XP attempt as the holder. That's it.

Shit, even going back to 2008, BB told Cassel to take sacks during the first part of the year as a tool to try and get him to keep his eyes downfield when he got pressured. Chris Collinsworth pointed this out over and over during the games...that Cassel would look at the rush after his first read. That was my major gripe with trading for him in the first place. Here we are, nearly 5 years later, and the exact same problem exists. The guy is just a pussy that's afraid of getting hit. **** em. |

Sooooooo, it's those extra four guys who line up on game day that throw Cassel for a loop. Coach is starting to come to an understanding, I think!

Nice. This should certainly lock up a top 1 or 2 draft pick.

I just think the kid has work to do. Romo sat for two years before he got his chance at the halftime of the game prior to the bye week. Maybe Stanzi gets a shot this year, maybe not. I just don't give up easily. |

It preserves a better draft position. |

The reason I really would like to see Stanzi get a shot is that hypothetically if he plays well, but doesn't win games, then we have the chance to draft a good QB and have an adequate backup. Additionally, we could use Stanzi to rape other teams like the Pats did with us.

As.long as crennel is fired.

It's like the thread today of the guy who went back to his girlfriend who bit his damn scrotum off. |

What is there to gain by playing Quinn instead of Stanzi? What negative result can we get from Stanzi that we haven't already endured with Cassel? |

I thought Cassel had made a couple (small) steps forward this season in handling the rush. It's the wild inaccuracy when there isn't any pressure that I can't get past. I can understand inaccuracy when a QB can't step into a throw, or is running from an angry DE. This season I've seen Cassel stand untouched in the pocket and throw passes behind receivers, too high, to the wrong shoulder, or just overthrow a wide open receiver. |

**** it.....what's Brett Favre doing these days?

Best case scenario, Stanzi turns into Tom Brady. Worst case scenario, Stanzi sucks, we cut him or keep him as a backup and draft a QB. There is no downside to playing Stanzi over Quinn. For all over Florio's faults, he did talk about this today on PFT, which is the TMZ of the NFL. However, he's right. Stanzi should leapfrog Quinn IMO. |
Quote:
If Stanzi turns this team around and we end up 9-7 (which would mean Stanzi would be 8-4 as the starter) how would that be a bad thing? This place is crazy in some ways. Why would people be disappointed with a 25 year old quarterback that we drafted going 8-4? |
We need to get Quinn prepared so we can go 1-15.
Cassel might sneak in a win or two. |
Last year, Dallas went from 17 to 6 with only a second rounder.
|
I think Quinn would do just fine
|
A F T.

I really don't know how good Stanzi can be, but the little bit I saw of him in the preseason was not impressive at all. If they do put him in, he won't last long in my opinion.
|
Forget Stanzi & Quinn: put in Colquitt.

For me, it would depend on how those games played out and if we made it to the post-season and his performance there. If we drafted Geno Smith, I would expect a playoff appearance in his rookie season. Same as if we had drafted RG3, Luck, or Wilson. High expectations result in high performances or replacement. |

There is nothing Stanzi could do to keep us from either trading up and taking a qb or sitting put and taking one. If he does well, it could propel the rest of the teams energy and get them to realize potential. |

Shit.
Boss just went full reerun. :) |
Normally, I'd agree. However, this division is won on 10-6/9-7. Additionally, the Broncos are relying on Peyton completing a full season back without any setbacks and the Chargers are the Chargers. While it is doubtful, if Stanzi goes 8-4 like you said, we'd probably be in the thick of things, no?
I wish the best for Ricky. I just hope that if he puts us out of the Geno Smith race somehow, he proves that it is worth it. Granted, it will likely not come to that, but if it does... |

I do still think he would play well with this roster, though. He is a better natural leader that either Cassel or Quinn though. |

Granted, both have played better than I expected, especially Tannehill. If they continue to perform well, then I will eat crow gladly. That being said, I didn't think those two were close in terms of talent to Luck, RG3 or Smith and still don't. If they prove me wrong, then congratulations to them. |

Stanzi has better footwork, release, and throwing motion than any other QB on the roster. I personally would love to see him get 1st team reps. I've been hoping for that since week 1. :( |

Cut Cassel, let Quinn walk, draft Geno, sign a veteran. Geno, Stanzi, and veteran is a VERY good QB crew. |

Cassel throws 44 passes and gets 251 yards. LMAO In fact at one point Tannehill was 24 for 37 for 418 yards. Throwing to BRIAN HARTLINE and DAVONE BESS. |
