A Hauntingly Familiar Quote From Eric Winston...

Is he channeling Herm?

“I really believe for this offense and what we wanted coming into camp were three things,” said RT Eric Winston. “Don’t turn the ball over, end every drive with a kick and we wanted to run the ball well to stay in manageable third downs. When you do that, you are going to be successful.”

Or just hinting at not being in the futile situation of being forced to go for 2 points after actually crossing the goal line.

chiefzilla1501 10-06-2012 10:14 AM

You're looking too much into it. A kick is a field goal or an extra point.

This.

He's just saying that he wants to come away with points on every drive.

He must've forgot that Cassel is his QB.

milkman 10-06-2012 10:17 AM

With Matt Cassel at QB, there are no manageable third downs.

Every third down is an adventure.

DBOSHO 10-06-2012 10:19 AM

Theyre doing a bang-up job at goal #1

mikey23545 10-06-2012 10:20 AM

Yeah, I considered that maybe he just meant getting points on every drive, but I wish he could have phrased it a little different.

Coogs 10-06-2012 10:22 AM

Would a "drive" be longer than 3 plays?

RippedmyFlesh 10-06-2012 10:22 AM

end every drive with a kick

XP,FG, or punt anything but fumble or pick.
He knew this was a team that could not bounce back quickly after a miscue.

In any event, he's wrong. We're turning the ball over. And our QB is forcing defenses to play close to the line, which makes it impossible for our run game to gain yards on 1st and 2nd down.

And we saw in 2010... even when we consistently set up 3rd and shorts, our QB was horrible at converting simple third downs.

The principles are right. If you have the right QB.

Deberg_1990 10-06-2012 10:25 AM

Hes basically saying that if Cassel doesn't turn the ball over and plays it safe, he can be somewhat effective.

It doesn't help when our defense has been awful at times forcing Cassel out of his game.

Hey Winston, let me show you a game where the Chiefs ran for 274 ****ing yards and Cassel almost lost it because he sucked so ****ing bad.

I can also show you a game where the Chiefs ran for 228 ****ing yards and Cassel lost it because he sucked so ****ing bad.

I can also show you two more games where the Chiefs ran for 150 ****ing yards and lost because Cassel sucked so ****ing bad.

We are not gonna be successful with this quarterback, regardless of the running game.

Why?

Because he sucks so ****ing bad.

That gif of the pass that should have gone 5 yards but went over 15 is just excruciating. And it goes on and on... :banghead:

another classic cassel gif. :doh!:

CosmicPal 10-06-2012 10:51 AM

I believe he's saying, end every drive with a kick-off. If not a kick-off (which results from an XP or FG), then he's saying punt because a punt is obviously better than a turn-over.

Well a punt is not a kick, is it? Winston is just trying to say "end every drive with points (extra point preferrable but field goal ok too)." But as others have pointed out, it can easily be read wrong.

How could any NFL QB miss a receiver that badly?

we would need a better QB to do that. ;)

Matt was being pressured. We know sometimes that is a scary time for him.

I heard the interview on the radio yesterday and he elaborated by saying that it's not a bad thing to punt. His main premise was to not turn the ball over. It was not limited to kicking PAT's and kickoffs

He was throwing it to the horsey in the middle of the field. It distracted him.
