Clark Hunt is selling the Columbus Crew soccer team
http://kansascity.sbnation.com/2012/...-columbus-crew
Hadn't seen this posted on here yet. Not sure that it means anything, but it's partially Chiefs related. |
Hmmmmm.....
|
That's great news.

Hey Clark, note how the encouragement was for local ownership. Just sayin'. We have a gang of people that know realtors in Leawood that we can hook you up with.
|
How many other soccer teams does the guy own?...does this make the Chiefs the only team he owns?

Interesting. I wonder if this is a harbinger of things to come...

The Chiefs fan in me hopes that Clark is going "all in" on the Chiefs.
The Kansas City fan in me tells me that David Glass will probably buy the Columbus team. |

its so he can buy sporting kc and destroy that franchise. kansas citians were perfectly happy as long as the chiefs were better then the royals. then this soccer team came along and reminded them what winning felt like... now they expect it from the chiefs too.

Look, I don't want Clark to sell the team. I want Clark to go all in on the Chiefs, move to Kansas City, send Patrioli's ass back to Boston, and hire a new GM who will trade Cassel for a 6th/release him, draft a QB in the first, and get this ship moving in the right direction.

Ever watch the movie hostel?

Sex with his mental handicap sister-in-law.

Columbus could be a good soccer market. I know a few fans from Ohio who are really happy about this. They've been bitching about Hunt being cheap in this market for years.

Rule #1: Do not make advances on your sister-in-law. Rule #2: If you do, don't write a tell-all letter to your wife detailing the events. I'm guessing he won't make enough at the marriage counseling gig his entire life to cover the cost of the settlement with his former sister-in-law and that doesn't even begin to cover what the ex-wife got in the deal. This story used to be all over the web a decade ago but most the sources have disappeared slowly over the years. |
Is it bad if I thought, "Worthless without pics"?

I'm sure that any psychologist or social worker would likely agree that this type of behavior isn't a "one and done" type of deal. |
Holy shit, the Chiefs are owned by the Bluth's!

Hell about 3/4 of the players only make like 55k a year. |
I view this as a net positive for the Chiefs. Either Clark will be able to focus more attention and time on the Chiefs or he's practicing selling sports teams.

I'm certain he doesn't know jackshit about soccer, either. Perfect hire. |

MLS is trying to get Hunt and AEG to get down to one team but passing ownership to the "right" owner is more important than just dumping them off on someone. Local ownership is strongly strongly desired but I am not sure a lack of it would be a deal breaker if someone wanted to come in and sweep up the Crew. It is interesting though even though he lives in Dallas I see Columbus as a better soccer market and a better organization to run. But who knows. |
You might be the only soccer fan I know of... In America.

You would be surprised. |

That said, soccer in the U.S. is growing exponentially. It's impossible for me, in Los Angeles, to go virtually anywhere without seeing or hearing soccer. I have old friends in JoCo that swear that Sporing KC and their stadium are second to none in terms of value, sight lines and fun. Again, not my trip but its ludicrous to state that soccer is somehow invisible. |

Of course I was exaggerating, but I really don't know too many soccer fans. I can count on one hand how many people I know of that actually follow SportingKC, like I do the Chiefs.

SKC has (this is a common opinion not a homer take) the nicest soccer specific stadium in North America. Its just an incredible place. Local ownership that cares...a team full of likeable players and everyone is obsessed with winning championships and making sure fans have a good time. Sporting averages more fans per game than there are seats available. Crazy times. |

And yet even with their winning and being the post season there just is no major buzz about the team around town. When the Chiefs or Royals are winning the city is just electric. With soccer, not so much. You hear and feel more depression because of the Chiefs than get from Sporting. |
Quote:
It is all funny though. We are talking about a league that is 17 years old. The steps they have made in this town are incredible. They get exclusive coverage now and front page features on the sports page when it used to be they would have to win a trophy to get more of a box score. Nobody is debating the place the Royals and Chiefs have in this town but the coverage they get isn't nothing. It is about what I would expect. Everyone laughed when I brought it up (which I get) but a lot of small things like SKC players doing the Plaza lighting ceremony this year. That is a *very* Kansas City thing. This team is well embedded in the local culture. |

Sports Illustrated is actually doing a big story on Kansas City and soccer...the team and how much the community has embraced the sport as a whole. Should drop pretty soon.

Live soccer games are a ton of fun. And soccer bar crowds are a bunch of fun too. You don't have to obsess over the sport to enjoy the atmosphere. |
I'll go to a soccer match with you, Zach. But you have to guarantee it won't end up in a tie and I won't have to wear a scarf.
|
Quote:
Of course you realize I am putting you with the rowdies. The old men sort of stand at the back so maybe that will work out well. You can't be offended by bad language and nobody really sits. |
Actually no...I don't believe there has been a 0-0 game at home all year. I take it back.

I didn't always hate it. I used to just not like it. The hate evolved from the elitist fans who tell me I don't like it because "I don't understand it". No, I understand it and still don't like it. The fan base just gets majorly butt hurt by people who don't buy in. I had a thread on here a couple of years ago that perfectly illustrated it. I mean there was someone wishing death on me. It is because of this that I hate soccer. |

I mean noobs get destroyed for not knowing intricate almost crazy details of the Chiefs...their history...their style of play...and the qualities of each and every player. Soccer haters often work off assumptions that don't even come close to that level of detail. It is usually the soccer version of thinking each team gets 5 downs in football. I agree the way some soccer fans come off isn't the way I like to come off and I can find it obnoxious but if you think its unique to soccer fans its not. Also, I have seen these threads play out...lets just agree that it probably didn't start by some soccer guy going elitist out of nowhere...people love poking that bear. |

Soccer is definitely a sport. Those guys work almost as hard as NASCAR drivers out there on the field.

This league is only 17 years old and absolutely has been a mess for some of those years. It really turned a corner around 2007 or so. You really saw the league find its legs in a lot of different ways. The modern version of the world's sport is a tough physical style of play with great athletes. The MLS values a style of play that Americans find important. |
Quote:
It's a real sport. And those who play it are some big time athletes. The sport just sucks. |

I would absolutely be trolling baseball fans if I made a thread inviting other people fans to share how much I dislike the sport. It is ok that you troll soccer fans...no biggie...it just makes your whole "I hate how soccer fans interacted with me" schtick fall on its face. |

Would both of those teams come away thinking oh well...sort of lost...sort of won...gotta do better. Absolutely not. It would be a win for Missouri. They got in the way and got partial credit in the ongoing progression of their season. Alabama would feel like it was a complete loss. They couldn't secure a win against a team that was flailing like Missouri. That does not even take into account the nature of the game. 3 points for a win...1 point for a tie...0 points for a loss. http://i.imgur.com/x6N4P.jpg |
