NFL considers dropping the Pro Bowl

Wouldn't break my heart to see it disappear. Keep the selection process as a reward but skip the game. I haven't watched a pro-bowl in the last 6-8 years or so.

Trophy and a vacation. Done. No reason to put anything on TV. |
And not a shit was given.
|
Have them take the pads off and make it a flag football game.
Or....Do the "competitions" they used to air on NFLN with the QB's and such running drills and earning points. The Pro Bowl game itself is a joke. But players should still be rewarded IMO. |
**** the NFL for shitting all over Cassels resume!
|
I've actually not minded watching the pro bowl recently. Although it woudn't be that sad to see it gone. Just hope they keep the voting on players part.
|
Please kill it.
|
Haven't they "considered" this every year for the last 5 years? Put a bullet in it already.
|
silver bullet and a stake through the heart
it ain't going anywhere |

I'd like to see a skills competition.
They used to do it. What happened? |
I would be happy if the NFL replaced the pro bowl with a skills competition.
http://somehow-someday.com/images/sa...s/lol_joey.gif Probably the best play Joey Harrington ever made. |
I like the idea of a skills comp, replace the pro-bowl with that.

The guy nearly lost his leg in a pre-game festivity. |

A skills competition would be awesome.

His knee was bent like 90' the wrong way.
Gruesome. |

Oh god, I remember that now. Yeah that was nasty as hell.

Actually anyone remember exactly how it happened when he was playing flag football? His foot get caught on someone/thing or something?

Say what you will about the Patriots but I thought that was a class move all the way. |

Exhibition football is never exciting.
|
WTF is the "Pro Bowl"?
|
If the NFL is so hellbent on putting a game in London, they should throw some loyal fans a bone in giving the military one regular season game a year.
Select a matchup closest to Veterans Day in Novemeber, put the game at Aloha Stadium, and give free or drastically reduced price tickets to active duty or retired personnel and their families for the game. |

I remember watching the pro bowl as a kid and it was actually pretty good. I seem to remember one, 91 I think? Nick Lowery hit the game winner and I was actually excited.
I don't see the players ever really getting in to it again unless they have an incentive to win. Winning team gets a couple million to split amongst the players or something like that. |
i used to like the skills competition as well.
|
Maybe they should do a game where the best rookies go against the players coming out of college right after the draft or something. Or they can do a game before the draft with potential rookies... I'd watch the hell outta that.
|
What if they moved it to the beginning of the season? Before pre-season, like the Hall of Fame bowl. Last year's best players kick off this year's play, that sort of thing. The Super Bowl players could take part, and by then people are aching for football anyway.
|
Skills competition, otherwise a trip to Hawaii for the players. The game is just another invitation for injury. Either that or make it flag football. The game is a waste of time.
|
Actually how about bringing a game to Australia lol
One day |
There's no need for it anymore. It would be cool if they had an All Pro team voted on by the players and coaches. Similar to the Top 100 on NFL Network. They should just cut the fans out of it imo.

Each team submits 5 players to partake in a skills competition. Draft order depends on how well your team scores.

Just make it a fun competition instead of a joke. I seem to remember Tony G getting hurt one yr in a catching challenge and I was like no F'en way..but then it turned out to be minor. |
I don't give a shit about it honestly. End it.
|
End it, but still give out the awards.

When douchebags like Cassel can back into the Pro Bowl, it shouldn't exist.
Most of the time, your Super Bowl teams are going to have a good amount of players that should be playing in the pro bowl. Just put it back to AFTER the Super Bowl. |
This event is the dumbest and worst of all major all-star games by a wide margin. Hockey is getting close with their 16-14 scores and no goal tending or defense but the NFL guys play games and do silly shit the whole time during the game.
I don't need this game and quite honestly who wants to watch a guy get seriously hurt in this stupid event. Vote for the All Pro's and send them and their families to Hawaii or some nice place for a week. Film all the pro's during the week and make it an hour show. People will like it more than the stupid Pro Bowl |
I think the NHL does a good job with their all star game (weekend), though scho63 is right that no one takes it seriously. It's in the middle of the season, so players are clearly not going to play all-out, and I don't think they should be expected to.
The game is really just part of a full event with (do I hear an echo in here?) a skills competition, a rookie game, and a variety of other things like that. If the NFL would just stop taking itself so seriously and make the event fun for everyone, it might be worth keeping. Or they could just can the whole thing. That's fine too. |

Do away with probowl and honors. Have divisional skills competions by points.
Qb, wr, te, rb, ol, dt, de, lb, s, c, k, p. Best of each division goes up against another division points wise during skills test. Winner goes on. Two days worth of tv. |

I was about to post a similar concept, but I like yours better. Stuff like this is a lot of fun to watch, as opposed to a very bad exhibition game. And I suspect that player egos would keep it competitive. |
The awards show concept would be interesting, sort of like the ESPY's but in addition to naming the All-Pro's, have your coach of the year, MVP, rookie of the year, comeback player of the year, most outstanding play, etc.
|
Still think it should just be a skills competition.
40 Yard Dashes, High Jumps, QB Drills...that kinda shit. |

Good.
|
And not a **** was given. I don't even give a darn if this is a repost, because I am not going to read a thread about the probowl.
Give each player an award and don't bother with the game. |
What is the Pro Bowl?
|
You want hard hitting, but you make them play straight up with no blitz's and I think no stunts. If you make the rules completely on the side of the offense, then how does he expect it to be a good game?
|
"and after a long season, to ask those guys to go out and play at the same level they played is really tough.''
Ah, but Goodell is all for adding two more games to the season. asshat has two sides to mouth. |

The game has always lacked something, but at least they played harder in the past. I would think none of those guys want to embarrass themselves like they did last year.
|
I'd never actually seen footage of the Robert Edwards injury (Post 64). That's just about the most gruesome knee injury I've ever seen. If he was a horse they would've shot him on the spot. Such a shame.

The Pro Bowl is just sht the way it is. |

The only post-season honor that's worth a shit, IMO, is an All-Pro designation. |
Quote:
Isn't a 16 game season with a playoff and championship game enough competition? |
Just give them the honors and that's it. There's no need for any of the other bullshit.
Although I think it'd be cool to still have the ProBowl "get together" where fans can come meet the players. |

I'd like to see this type of competition. I would think the odds of injury in these types of events would be very low. Edwards' injury was in a flag football game and was a huge fluke (or maybe not if the sand was an issue). I'd like to see stuff like who can do the most pushups or who can bench the most or who can run a mile the fastest or who can throw the most footballs through a tire. These are things that the players would be doing anyway as part of their training. |

This is a contact sport that's different from baseball (Home Run Derby) or basketball (Slam Dunk competition). These guys are pushing their bodies to the break point every single day. MOST aren't natural athletes and have to use supplements, eat 10,000 calories a day, etc. Guys try to make weight with Star Caps and diuretics. Many of these guys train year-round just to compete for a job. There's no way that their agents, the guys that are supposed to have their backs, are going to allow them to participate in some half-assed, Made-For-TV extravaganza that pays them nothing while 2 million viewers the weekend after Easter Sunday tune in. Bottom line: Simple economics. |
