Michael Jordan banned from golf course...

For cargo pants. ROFL

Michael Jordan is good at a lot of things: basketball, building apparel empires, smoking cigars. But if there's one thing he absolutely needs to work on in the future, it's the way he dresses on the golf course.

A couple months after Jordan wore an awful getup to the Ryder Cup that caused a minor stir, the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of high-tops is back in the news again for, you guessed it, the way he was dressed on the course.

According to the New York Post, Jordan showed up at La Gorce Country Club — a high-class course in Miami Beach, Fla. — wearing a pair of cargo pants for a round of golf.

No big deal, right? On most occasions, wearing a pair of cargo shorts for a round at your local muni track is acceptable, but when you're playing at a swanky club in Miami, you're expected to wear a pair of khakis that don't have baggy pockets. Apparently Jordan didn't get the memo and showed up to the course sporting cargos anyway. That didn't sit too well with the membership.

"Michael was wearing cargo pants on the course," said a spy. Jordan's multipocketed pants were apparently against the dress code that, sources say, dictates that members and guests must be attired in a collared shirt and Bermuda shorts. But when 6-foot, 6-inch Jordan was offered a chance to change outfits, he demurred.

"He was given the chance to change but he didn't want to," a source said. The source added that Jordan, who was enjoying a round at the club with one of its members, played on anyway. The source added that members complained about Jordan breaking the rules and, "He won't be invited back."

A rep for Michael Jordan told the Post that, "Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants . . . He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code. This time, he was made aware of the violation on the 12th hole, and at that point . . . he did refuse to interrupt his game, and return to the clubhouse and change. We were not aware that he is not allowed to return to La Gorce. I guess it's their loss — as MJ is a great golfer, and a great guest." The club did not respond for comment.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised the club didn't let Jordan's fashion faux pas pass. After all, we're talking about Michael freakin' Jordan and, as you can see from the photo, he's been known to wear cargo shorts on the course in the past. If he's done it before, chances are good he's going to keep doing the same thing in the future, because, well, he's Michael Jordan.

But hey, if a club has rules, everyone has to follow them — even if the rule breaker happens to be a living legend. Next time bring a pair of Bermuda shorts to the course, Mike.

mikeyis4dcats. 11-28-2012 08:38 PM

cargo pants != cargo shorts

Dayze 11-28-2012 08:41 PM

banned for bacon neck.

Ceej 11-28-2012 08:43 PM

He should be banned for that stupid hat.

mnchiefsguy 11-28-2012 08:46 PM

MJ should just buy the club, then he could wear whatever he wanted.

RedDread 11-28-2012 08:47 PM

Holy crap, how effing far does the rod up your ass have to be to report Michael Jordan for wearing cargo shorts. That sounds like a guy I want to hang out with.

HemiEd 11-28-2012 08:56 PM

Everyone knows that you can't wear ****ing Cargo shorts at a Country Club, including Michael Jordan. He obviously thought he was above the rules.

Chiefs Pantalones 11-28-2012 08:59 PM

You don't ban the greatest of all time. He bans you.

Garcia Bronco 11-28-2012 09:00 PM

I agree with Mike on this one. He had to check-in, they should have said something then. To interupt the man with several holes to go is nonsense.

Not necessarily. I've played plenty of times and not checked in. Just joined the group at the tee or practice green.

No caddies, carts. Valets don't care. I've never totally violated the dress code, but you really expect some teenager is going to tell MJ he can't wear cargo shorts? And you'd have to think the host was a swinging dick too....so you're likely pissing off 2 powerful men.

"will you hold me tonight, the thought of that colored man wearing cargo shorts is going to have me quite scared."

NJChiefsFan 11-28-2012 10:58 PM

I'm just annoyed on principle here. MJ golfs all the time. He didn't know the rules of normal country club wear? Bullshit. The "they won't ban me" act makes me enjoy that they did ban him. Don't get me wrong, I really like MJ both as a player and person.

I am not a country club guy, if for no other reason than I can't afford to be. That being said there are rules to sports and expectations in sports. If you don't like them then don't ****ing play them. Just because people like to follow traditions doesn't make them a bunch of spoiled, stuck up dickheads(even if they are such in other aspects of life).

The one thing I would say is that the people telling was a little stupid. The golf course seeing it themselves is one thing, telling on him is a little much. I just would have been annoyed by it and let it go.

I actually like the game of golf to a degree. I get it. Being outside with freshly cut grass, hitting the absolute shit out of a little ball with a big giant metal club. It feels good. It's a shame I'm complete and utter dog shit at it, or else I would play the game myself. However, it's really the PEOPLE that can ruin it. Like others have already said, there are a lot of snobby, horribly dressed dipshits out there that care more about appearance and shit than just the game itself. It's sad and pathetic. It's like the people that listen to rap music in their cars and turn it up really really ****ing loud when they enter a QuikTrip parking lot. Most of those people don't really enjoy going deaf listening to that shit. They just want everyone else to NOTICE that they're listening to it. Makes em feel "cool" or whatever. A country club is established with rules, and all of the members pay a significant amount of money (not me, I can't afford it and don't want to be part of that lifestyle) to be part of that club with those rules. Jordan isn't above the rules, especially as a guest.

The story of golf, as related to me by a born Scotsman and master storyteller - There once was a village idiot who grew bored with drunkenly meandering about town all day, so one day as he was walking with his stick, he smacked a rock with it and thought "well, thats a bit of fun"

But pretty soon the villagers grew tired of the idiot, his rocks were hitting people, hitting their houses and so they said "get out of here and dont come back, idiot"

So across the fields he went, smacking his rock as he went, when one day his rock fell into a ground squirrel hole, well, he thought this added an exciting new twist to this game he had since dubbed "smiting the stone"

So on he went across the field, looking for holes to smack his rock into, pretty soon he came to another village, and as he passed through, that villages idiot noticed him and asked if he could join him in smiting the stone... but soon they were thrown out, just like the last village.

So on they went across the fields, and as they passed through the next village, another idiot thought this all looked like great fun and so he joined them, and again they were thrown out, and on across the fields to the next village they went, collecting idiots as they went, enthralled were they all with smiting stones into squirrel holes.

Soon every village idiot in Scotland was playing smite the stone, and the rest as they say... is history.

morphius 11-29-2012 12:41 PM

This story would have been a lot more fun if he would have just ripped the pockets off and just continued to play.

Same thing.

I don't really care for the snootyness of Country Clubs, but those members have chosen that environment, and all agree to it.

Heck, they got upset at me one time for pissing behind a tree, so I just choose not to go most of the time. Their rules, their club. Jordan is not different.

I suspect it is written in the rules because they are just plain ugly and sloppy looking?

One of our Naples Fl. group had to buy a pair of shorts in the Pro Shop last year, and was told ahead of time not to wear the cargo shorts.

There are dress codes at most golf courses, even public municipal courses.

MJ is a grown man and plays tons of golf. He knows the rules and etiquette, especially at very exclusive private clubs. He was an invited guest and should have had a second thought about wearing cargo coolots.

The issue isnt whether or not he knew the rules...im sure he did. The issue is the dumb etiquette rules of golf that dont serve any purpose other than to promote elitism and snobbishness.

It's not a rule of golf to wear any particular attire. It's the respect due as an invited guest of an exclusive country club. His club sponsor probably paid hundreds of dollars for his green fee (no one plays for free), plus other expenses. This isn't that difficult to figure out. I guarantee you that MJ knows what's appropriate. Maybe he was being childish towards people richer than he.
