Trent Green: "Chiefs play nearly PERFECT football and still almost lose"

I was listening to an 810 podcast and Trent Green brought up a great point.

The Chiefs had ZERO turnovers and only ONE late delay of game stupid 5 yd penalty. In addition Quinn had the highest QBR of any Chiefs QB in 5 years and yet we still only won by 6 points to a team with 3 wins at home. Newton had the chance to drive late and beat us.

He said if the Patriots played this perfectly in a game they would be up 45-3.

ShortRoundChief 12-05-2012 10:15 AM

Everybody talks of this perfection, but it wasn't a perfect game by any means. The defense was lackluster to say the least.

MahiMike 12-05-2012 10:16 AM

Trent Green for head Coach!

yeah, the definition of "perfect" around these parts has definitely slipped.

Easy 6 12-05-2012 10:21 AM

For once, its on the defense.

I wont blame them for having a letdown game, even the bad effort was enough to win.

InChiefsHeaven 12-05-2012 10:25 AM

It's really true though. Our BEST game results in a mediocre win...this team is STILL lost people. Quinn ain't the solution though I'm certain that there will be those who think he's finally "getting it" and we don't need to draft a QBOTF. They are not better, they just had a lot of emotion and barely beat one of the other shitty teams in the NFL.

If this was Trent Green's Chiefs, it would have been 35-10 Chiefs at the half.

BJ2K 12-05-2012 10:31 AM

I was thinking this too. It seems as if there is a threshold on how good of a game we could have. If the offense does better, it always seems like it's taking some of the "good" away from the defense.

I think we're just cursed.

Chief Roundup 12-05-2012 10:35 AM

The "perfect" stuff comes from No turnovers and No penalties. The only penalty of the game was a delay taken on purpose to run time off the clock.

Chiefnj2 12-05-2012 10:45 AM

How many defenses play well when 3rd stringers are in the secondary?

DaWolf 12-05-2012 10:47 AM

I heard Petro say this as well and I think it is a poorly formulated point about the game. I mean how do we know that Carolina also didn't play one of their best games of the year? They were 6-10 on 3rd downs, averaged 7.5 yards per rush and 8.1 yards per pass, and had no turnovers.

In the end, two bad teams played excellent football on one day. If either team plays that way throughout the year, they'd be going to the playoffs. So to make the point that the Chiefs played great but still barely won is silly in my opinion, because it assumes that Carolina played the crappy game that their record indicates they should have played...

This.

A very good game by this team is barely a win.

We certainly didn't kill ourselves. Wait....

This seems like a reasonable solution.

Oh, Trent. Come back. :(

bevischief 12-05-2012 11:07 AM

This just shows again about the lack of leadership and discipline on this team.

Why is the team in a position in which they have to play 3rd stringers in the secondary? Could have been prevented....

Not with this leadership in charge...

ChiefMojo 12-05-2012 11:43 AM

What he said is true. We played our best game of the year and barely beat a bad Panthers team at home. This team is what it is.

KurtCobain 12-05-2012 12:05 PM

Romeo was not meant to be a coach in the nfl.

To go along with that I see what are the good teams in the league squeek out wins all the time against inferior teams. So yeah it's a pretty lame take.

mikey23545 12-05-2012 02:06 PM

Carolina:

Lost to Tampa Bay 16-10
Lost to Atlanta 30-28
Lost to Seattle 16-12
Lost to Dallas 19-14
Lost to Chicago 23-22
Lost to Tampa Bay 27-21

Yeah, obviously Carolina is a horrible team that gets blown out every time they play a playoff bound team.

I think Trent has taken a lot more blows to the head than anyone realized. It seems to have reduced his IQ to about the same level as many of the Chiefsplanet posters.

Shush you, trInt is a legend around here now.

Mr. Laz 12-05-2012 03:12 PM

uber-conservative game plan usually means every game can be won/lost by just a few plays.

same concept with Martyball

still can't cover a tightend

BUT , If we had played this way all season we'd be 8-4 right now. We barely lost to Baltimore & Pittsburgh with all the turnovers and penaltys

Trent is a legend, but he gets that Gruden blindness thing going on sometimes in the booth.

bobbything 12-05-2012 04:28 PM

Actually, Trent Green wasn't the one who said that; it was Kietzman who brought it up. Green just elaborated on it.

Sweet Daddy Hate 12-05-2012 04:35 PM

I could really care less what Trent Green has to say.

The offense played nearly perfect football.

Is this sentence even English? It doesn't seem familiar.

It should be "Couldn't care less" and with that, people probably couldn't care less more with what you have to say than a former successful QB of the Chiefs. ROFL

Micjones 12-06-2012 12:41 AM

Because playing perfect football constitutes a blowout.
Good thing other teams don't come to play on Sundays.
:shake:

Rasputin 12-06-2012 03:46 AM

At least he isn't saying things are fixed or we became good over night.

We basically played an emotional tempo game and the Panthers did their best to keep up with that we just came out on top.

If the team keeps up with that emotional tempo & not let down we may see more wins but that does not mean we are a better team. This is why we need to lose to keep honest with what we have. Quinn played a very good game, I will give him that but he is not the answer to this going forward. We need change from GM coaches and we need a QBotf from top of the draft.

Our brand of "perfect" offensive football was good enough to get beat most weeks.

Thank you Carolina Panthers.

I listened to this on Monday evening. It was actually Keitzman saying this before talking tO Trent. When Trent got on KK mentioned it and had Trent comment on it. It's not like Teent came out and said it.

Pasta Little Brioni 12-06-2012 08:50 AM

Sign Alex Smith and Hire Trent for QB Coach...Championship!!!!!

whoops. it was a dumb thing to say -- how can you allow 3 TD's yet allow only "3 points". I agree the offense has played well enough in the past to score a lot more points only to execute poorly by stalling drives and getting few points, but that was not what the offense did last weekend.

Sweet Daddy Hate 12-06-2012 04:14 PM
