Fox 4 Says Two Topeka Cops Shot Dead Tonight

Outside a Dillon's Store, happened a couple hours ago. Shooting suspect still at large. More news will come soon.

In58men 12-16-2012 10:26 PM

They're mentally challenged

Setsuna 12-16-2012 10:26 PM

Whoever started this 12/21/12 BS needs to be ganked.

my wife drove by that store about a half hour after the shootings took place. She had me scouring the local net when she got home.

With the amount of guns that are in that area of town, I would think this guy will get caught sooner rather than later.

Lzen 12-16-2012 11:19 PM

That suspect was my sister's next door neighbor until she moved a couple years ago. She said he was a thug. What a scumbag. Last I heard, he was still at large.

Demonpenz 12-16-2012 11:21 PM

Fox 4 reporting the argument started over who had the best mustache.

They are reporting that he is holed up in an apartment and surrounded.

Another shooting?! Goddamn....

RIP to our brave officers and prayers to their families. Terrible time to lose a loved one.

They had guns and they were trained to shoot.

This is what happens when your team loses hope for drafting Geno.

WilliamTheIrish 12-17-2012 05:56 AM

I know the TPD can't comment right now, but how did this guy get off two head shots on two officers? I know one of the eye witnesses that was standing in the doorway of the store as it happened. Said both officers were gone at the scene even though emergency personnel were attempting revival at the scene.
The scumbag hit one of them with multiple shots to the torso also.

Nixhex 12-17-2012 06:39 AM

They tear gassed the house he was hiding in. 5 minutes later you hear gunshots. Then they release a dog into the house and let it drag this punk's dead body out. The news isn't confirming who it was or if they are alive. Knowing the situation I bet it was the punk and he's done for.

Robbed?

WilliamTheIrish 12-17-2012 08:49 AM

KMBZ 9 stayed with this through the end. After tear gassing the place he may have shot himself which led the TPD give him about 6 rounds of 3124fps of justice. This guy was looking to commit suicide by cop. Better that he's gone from this earth.

Reading that he's a Pottawatomie Indian that changed his last name from David Jim to David Escarino, the last name of his step father.

-King- 12-17-2012 08:54 AM

I didn't know Jim was a last name

WilliamTheIrish 12-17-2012 02:16 PM

From the tweets I got from the PC, that according to witnesses interviewed at the scene, it was a simple drug deal. Officer(s) walked up on car and this POS fires from the back seat. JFC, what a POS this guy was. The TPD is familiar with the POS. Had a history of ciminal activity.

Saulbadguy 12-17-2012 02:17 PM

First TPD officers to die on the job since 2000. (Helicopter crash)

HemiEd 12-17-2012 02:29 PM

Sad deal. A low life like that ruins the lives of so many.

That is the official definition yes, but if you've ever played video games and such, ganked means straight up blitz killed in a matter of seconds.

Yeah or shivved from behind. Counterstrike and WoW I don't know how many times I yelled "Fulkdfja;lsfkjasflka rogue, ganked me." Zerged means overwhelmed and straight up blitz killed.

HonestChieffan 12-17-2012 07:49 PM

If only we could ban guns and legalize dope.

Ganked when the noun is a person - attacked
Ganked when the noun is an object - robbed

Crazy.

I've sold flooring to an Atherly.

Not sure if she is in the Topeka area or not or if there's any relation.

Hoping not.

I feel like these types of shootings suicides happen everyday in most parts of the country, now they are reported every second. Look our society is sick the world is not a great place but atleast let me log on to one of the only places i have left to escape from the violent place we live

Dante84 12-18-2012 12:17 AM

Ganked = Acquire, steal or rob

Shanked = Strike or stab from close range

oldman 12-18-2012 07:01 AM

Guru, is that a bad part of town now? I lived in Topeka for many years and that area was getting pretty run down when I left, but there were other areas much worse.

Its an area I try to avoid these days. It amazes me to this day that Dillon's closed down other stores but kept that one.

Stanley Nickels 12-18-2012 07:25 AM

It's the "dirty dillons"

I don't go there very often except if I need to pick up something while at work. Wouldn't go there at night.

It used to be a great area to live. But that was 30+ years ago. That area kind of went under a reverse gentrification. As older homeowners died off, the homes were sold and converted to rentals. That brings in some lower income folks, which draws in other ne'r do wells, and so on and so forth.

That Dillon's is the one they've kept open as courtesy I think. There are som many elderly, disabled, low income folks without transportation, that this dillon's was always pretty vital to them.

But it also became a haven for thugs preying upon those very people who are easy marks. The spread of gangs in the 90's didn't help much.

Ceej 12-18-2012 07:48 AM

The Dillons i live near (29th and Gage) is pretty ghetto.

Can't imagine how bad the other must be.

Fortunately the area is getting better (IMO), due to the college hill beautification initiative. This is a pretty big setback though.

I don't, but if the address is on SxxxxN drive, it's the mother.

that's the closest one to our house, but I actually prefer the 21st street store for atmosphere and selection. It is so much brighter than the newer stores.

I miss the original HyperMart - I know it was a wal-mart but it was so much better lol

Chiefs_Mike_Topeka 12-18-2012 10:46 PM

The 29th and Oakley dillons isn't "ghetto". I used to live right down the street and go there all the time. The location where the pos killed the officers on the other hand is a very questionable locale. Efforts to clean the area up but the residents must first take pride in the neighborhood. Unfortunately that's not likely with the majority of the people.

yeah, Brookwood isn't ghetto, it's just old and small. That was our store growing up.

oldman 12-18-2012 11:05 PM

That one on 29th and Oakley hasn't always been a Dillons, has it? I remember it being something else. My daughters used to work at the old 21st St. Dillons in high school. Did they close that one?
